Anyone else notice how Gaga became the interviewer halfway through this thing, asking relevant questions. Love how she was totally trying to absorb all the experience and knowledge present at the table.
In fairness to the interviewer, he's doing a pretty good job of sitting back and letting them talk, only stepping in to provide little shifts in the discussion etc.
@@bluluckyduckie B4 the STAR IS BORN movie, I never paid much attention to GA-GA. I always just considered her another one of those cookie cutter pop singers who flood the market these market these days. But, that woman is talented! Hey, you gotta be a dam good singer for Barbara Streisand to notice you, and THEN INVITE YOU TO DINNER AT HER HOME!
the first question for the actress' roundtable has been about MeToo for two years in a row. why is it the actresses’ job to talk about these issues, but with the actors it’s barely an afterthought?
There are leading that movement, but yeah that type of question just goes for women, men take other questions like making up their personalities on films and all that stuff, but they should be talking about that
Miguel Machado no i agree, but if they’re going to ask the actresses they should also ask the actors, men like terry cruz and corey feldman have shown it’s a men’s issue too.
Viactaire Sevilla dude I agree they should ask the women about it, but as they’re asking them (as the OPENING QUESTION) they should also be asking the men.
I don’t know exactly why but.... Kathryn Hahn just irritates me. Maybe she seems so needy and neurotic? I know the “ if you can’t say anything nice, don’t say anything at all”..but I wonder ..does anyone else have a similar reaction to her?
@@eileenmccarthy7392 I think some of it is the parts she has played and maybe how she gets steered in interviews. And she seems to be changing over time. I mean she isn't the deepest person I have seen but I don't hate her. And there always seems to be that one person that shouldn't be on these panels. She is for sure the one on this one. Nothing she has done even comes remotely close to the rest of these women and I think she knows it. I bet Gaga thought it was her since she has little experience but it isn't. Both her work on AHS and her movie she just knocked it out of the park. And like she has said, she is trained actor she just never got to do it before.
Since most of the other women are being called beautiful in the comments while Regina King is called "powerful" or "strong", I'll break the ice: Regina King is beautiful and talented. 👌
and also one of THE most underrated actresses EVER. When she is in a movie...her MALE costars win Oscars. She is so good, she elevates the performance of others.
38:28 Nicole turning around to Regina and saying "I love her" about gaga, with a big smile..just warmed my heart so much. i love how supprting and loving they are to each other.
22:22 "I do not believe a star is born in this film until the last frame of the movie when she looks into that camera. The star is born because the star is bravery. The star is perseverance. The star is the ability to continue, to go on in the face of trauma and persevere." - Lady Gaga
To be honest I think Lady Gaga's questions brought the conversation to a more human aspect rather than just "you're a woman...talk about the me too movement". Because she's new to acting and she seems very interested in what the others have to say about ALLthe things: technicalities, what their personal lives are like...Gaga makes this thing better, I think. (which isn't to say that the others aren't good as well; they are all equally great )
Gaga is one of the most interesting women of my lifetime I think. I thought she was such a weirdo when she first started getting popular. However the more I learned about and saw her the more I fell in love with her. I don't think there is anything she couldn't do if she wanted to. And she is so nice on top of it. Pink is another one that I think is pretty amazing. Neither of them really sing the kind of music I like ( I am a older male) but they have so much freaking talent.
Hadeel Alshamari Ironically my admiration for Glenn Close started in a movie she made with Meryl Streep; “The House of The Spirits”. Glenn acting stole Meryl’s spot light in my opinion.
@@marias7599 I always thought Glenn Close should have been Oscar nominated for that film. She was absolutely heart breaking in it! But the movie itself was pretty weak so it never got much awards traction.
Glenn Close is actually way better than Meryl in terms of ACTING. Glenn did a lot of different roles and all slayed them. Meryl is just closer to the people in Hollywood that's why she's getting all these oscars. When in fact, the 2012 best actress was actually for Glenn. Albert Knobs is million times better than Iron Lady.
I had the same thought! Have them each pose a question to the others and then give an extra to both the most seasoned and the newest on the scene so everyone does one and they do two?!
I have always felt deeply connected to Kathryn Hahn. She is so in tune with everything. She deserves more credit than she receives. A true actress and empath.
I haven't really known much of her nor do I think I've seen her in film but I am so looking forward to doing so and seeing her in WandaVision later tonight.
I thought she really wanted to prove to the others that she had acting qualification but she didn't state it in a pushy way so yes I would agree she's very eloquent.
"Lady Gaga IQ is estimated at 166, which is considered as a genius and in top 0.1% the population of the world." Stephen hawking's iq was 160 and einstein's iq is estimated to be about the same as hawking. that would set lady gaga's iq to be higher than both.
@Lestat Luka the reason why you haven't accomplished anything with that iq so high is because you're here in the comment section fighting people just having a conversation. I'm not even a gaga fan lol it was just to prove how smart she is, not saying that she's more important than any of the two aforementioned.
Gaga got in Tisch School of the Arts at NYU at the early age of 17 years old when only a group of 20 people get that chance to enter early, she is a genius! And the way she handled her career, putting a deep concept and meaning behind every live performance she did, every fashion outfit had something to do with the visuals she envisioned for each album of hers and specifically each single she released, from the clothes, to the music video to the live performances, the red carpets, the fashion from Hotel to her cars letting paparazzi take her picture so the media focused on that and not her personal life, everything was so well thought, genius! And you can't deny every other pop star wanted to imitate her style, fashion & performances after her, before no musician was seen wearing high couture from designers, after her every award show was full of crazy over the top outfits, makeup and wigs lol you have to push the boundaries to change the World and she did, she made everyone uncomfortable but that gave us iconic pop culture moments that nobody will ever forget. Genius!
Because they are the ones who know how it's showing up. We should not give two shits about what a man says about a womens issue. Only that they support it and that is it.
I would be inclined to believe that you are a man, and in that aspect, one that has put 0 thought on what being a woman means in today's world and how he afects that and he is affected by that.
@@cesaroviedo6345 I'm actually a woman and I believe you may have misunderstood my point. The metoo movement is incredibly important and I definitely love hearing these intelligent women discuss it. However, I do think it could have been handled a little better. These amazing women deserve an opportunity to discuss their work in-depth. I think a discussion on metoo could have been added onto that, instead of taking time out of the professional discussion to do so.
@@BardocksSynphony It's not out of line at all, but I feel like the women got less time to discuss their work than the men did which seems a little unfair. Imo it would have been better to have a separate discussion on that very important issue :)
I find it wholesome that all the other actresses are in a way comforting Gaga and giving advise and encouragement, whether it be about future roles or kids and maintaining a career. It's just another reminder that woman can instantly connect no matter race, age, or experience. Very refreshing to see.
Dezzychioino Gaga is entirely respectful and humble around these women also - as she always has been. She's earned huge respect and honour in the entertainment industry tbh. Proud of that woman

Depends on the women:) There are incredible bitches as well. But they are definietly not.
kathryn seems like she'll be fun to go drink with. rachel is just so eloquent and feels so ethereal but also down to earth. nicole is such an enigma but when she starts to talk you can hear her drawing back those curtains. regina is soooooooooo powerful, the way she uses her voice, her stares, she seems like she truly experiences life viscerally. glenn is so wise and so poised. she feels like a mother that never scolds, but always tries to make you see the lesson in everything. gaga became such a human in this video. the times the other actresses would talk about their roles, their children and the careers they've had- she would just sit and listen and yearn. it was beautiful to see. she really seemed so interested and she looked she was incredibly humbled to sit amongst them.
Very well said! Agree about Lady gaga, although Ive known that she has a deep, thoughtful, inciteful, vulnerabile side about her for while now. What I found interesting was how she was so engaged, And really seemed to soak it all in and value the rest of the women's advice and insight from their storied careers and experience with acting. Although she is "new" to acting, I was still very impressed with her answers and self awareness for it being her first film. Im very excited to see where her acting careers moves to, especially since she has the talent to combine her music career into anything she does. Shes a force to be reckoned with, in my opinion. I also really enjoyed everybody else's answers and for the women I am not as familiar with, this made me want to see more of their work!
I love how they all seem like friends/sisters. This is the best round table, the conversation flowed so well, they all listened to each other, shared laughs and struggles, just stunning.
They are in the Illuminati together. 15 mins in and Gaga even says, “sorcery”. So many people are worshipping these people/ actors that practice witchcraft.
I love how Gaga pays attention to everyone’s words. She values every word they say. She’s interested to learn from the women who were there first before her. ❤️
It’s not about comparing because I’m totally agains that but, I would say Lady Gaga is more focused on nurturing herself first so she can nurture other better and I like that. And Angelina thought that nurturing others would do it for her and I feel she’s struggling with that. I could b wrong.
@@marias7599 I agree. And she's very open about her mental issues, so it definitely comes from a place of healing herself and learning and growing to then give that experience and care to the world
38:28 Nicole turning around to Regina and saying "I love her" about gaga, with a big smile..just warmed my heart so much. i love how supprting and loving they are to each other.
I love the fact that Regina King not only deeply understands her own character, but other characters within the story as well, which definitely allows her to add on to how she acts in and around the other characters.
Lady Gaga is kinda blowing my mind. Some might think she's just another singer doing the acting thing, but she gets it. The way she looks at her craft is incredible. Great roundtable.
@R J idk some people are like that. I get that. You can sense the respect she has though. And that she's picking up tricks of the trade at the same time by veterans
when Kathryn Hahn said that "women's stories aren't niche", I remember Cate Blanchett's acceptance speech for winning Best Actress in 2014 when she said the same phrase "for those of us who are foolishly clinging to the idea that women stories, with female roles at the center are niche, they are not. People wanna see them and in fact, they earn money" I'm not really sure about the words but you get the point.
@@CezaraL. This was mostly on who they ought frontrunner were for the Golden Globe. But Regina King is probably my favorite performance among these ladies.
@@ausplus huh? clearly you dont know the plethora of under the radar performances, NK, has done with small after smaller film....shes a true actress. not to mention shes won best actress already at the oscars, the only legitmate award apart from tony's. i mean literally shes played every type of character out there
Three things. 1. So glad Regina King is getting the recognition she deserves. 2. I love Rachel Weisz and Kathryn Hahn so much, wow. 3. I keep getting this urge to call Glen Close, Glen Coco 😂😂😂 also she's marvelous.
Mina F do you not think it’s important to keep the momentum going? Get new opinions out there, keep the movement alive? Or do you want them not to talk about it? Let the momentum stop?
Em Em they’re not bringing anything new to the conversation, it’s just the same thing said over and over again, the same questions asked. I’m over it. I care about the craft of acting, and the art of cinema. I think of women as artists in that industry, who should be able to talk about their craft the way men do, not just about what it’s like to be a woman in that industry. It’s not equality that the male artists are allowed to talk about anything and women are just allowed to talk about being women, it’s reductive.
Mina F what if this is the first video someone sees, and they’re introduced opinions directly from actresses about this movement? That’s the whole point about PR and exposure.. it’s so important to keep talking about something and keep it in peoples minds. Compare it to a missing persons case, you have to keep it in the news and headlines and on the streets to keep the case moving! So if someone watched this for the first time, and learned something or heard of the movement for the first time, I think that’s worth it. Would you agree?
Em Em No. On what planet. The only people watching an hour long oscars round table are people who are at least somewhat into the movie industry, and NONE of those people aren’t well aware of what Me Too is. My grandmother knows what Me Too is. They’ve talked about it, and talked about it again, they talked about it last year. Let women talk about something else, I’ll repeat, it’s reductive.
Mina F don’t be ignorant, you can’t assume everyone knows about a topic that is specific to Hollywood. Hollywood is in the U.S, think of people outside the U.S., even people outside of the EU. It is important to keep talking about this, it can change a lot in the world for women.
She definitely hasn't! She's a fine wine, that's for sure!! She looks the same as she did almost 30 years ago when she was in Boyz n Da Hood in 1991 or Poetic Justice (my favorite movie) in 1993.
She ages, she ages gracefully. When people say she isn't aging' it further perpetuates the idea that aging is not ideal or attractive, so, people go about doing drastic things to 'not age'. Just food for thought. ❤️
I love the way Gaga speaks, she makes you want to listen to her. And Oh!!! Rachel Weiz talks with class.. typical sophisticated English woman. I love my women!!
She seems to do that when anyone meets her. She is so not what people expect based on her music career, especially older people like me. I can't think of anyone that has met or knows her that doesn't just gush about her.
She's the only person I've seen on his who was the 'least experienced' on the specific subject. But was really insightful and not overbearing as others have been.
They're all so powerful & beautiful. When Lady Gaga talks here sometimes she just keeps going but she is so eloquent, perceptive and emotionally intelligent I think I could listen to her for days on end.
I saw a film with her in it last night that was *AMAZING* called "She's Funny That Way".... It was hilarious and although I've seen her in B-parts in other films, she carries a large chunk of this one and does it superbly! Enjoy!
This is an amazing table, wonderful actresses but incredible human beings. Lady Gaga is very articulated, very sincere and she talks about everything so easily, she is a genius.
The girl with the highlights is great! She's so great at listening and transitioning what the actors are talking about with the next question without cutting them off. I hate the way both guys cut people off or ask some awkward questions.
Wow Rachel Weisz hit the gene lottery! At 48 years old she looks so absolutely beautiful! It is truly amazing that each year she seems not to age at all what a beautiful woman again I say!
I am sure she gets all sorts of facials and what not. I bet she has a little help looking younger. She looks more natural than Nicole Kidman. Her face is too tight looking. Botox city.
If these woman don’t want to be reduced to their looks then why are they so dolled up? There is nothing wrong with looking nice but at the same time they all look like they are ready for a red carpet? Why can’t they talk about these things in regular clothes? Do you not think they are still being complicit?
I read ur comment before i actually see it. And didn't get it. But when i saw it .i had to reply and say . Who ever put it that way gotta be PHUCKING FIRED hhhhhh
Glenn Close - what a great, sturdy presence in this roundtable. She gave this roundtable a completely different vibe thanks to the way she started. Wise, graceful, aware and modern.
Rachel Weisz deserves to win for The Favourite, her character starts off so devious then by the end you are rooting for her and she plays Lady Sarah so perfectly. really sad Nicole Kidman got no Oscar nominations for either roles this year, a really great THR lineup. love watching these every year.
ShipBuilding the fact that you think it's ok to speak that always says a lot about you and how you think if yourself as well. You reveal your true soul by your actions...and you definitely need to work on a lot of stinking shit.
Every time Gaga speaks I fall in love with her all over again. Also loved seeing Regina here. If she's on a show, I know it'll be worth watching. And for those who are sick of the MeToo stuff...skip over it!
Despite the long wait it was worth it as always. Rachel and gaga connected beautifully at some point. However i thought it is very unfortunate they didnt ask rachel to talk about disobedience since the film had the strongest performances for a while (high quality acting/emotional connection/physical tension/group dynamic/rachel macadams/the after effect) yet didnt receive any recognition in the award season. They didnt even let her talk about the favourite like that!
She has always been a nice person, just so sweet. The thing is people always focused on her clothes and that has nothing to do with being a good or bad person.
i love that she's a gifted actor and director and she's the voice of TWO of my favorite cartoon characters of all time (Huey and Riley on the Boondocks)
I'm always in love with kathryn Hahn. She is so talented and beautiful, but I never thought she was so effusive in real life, it makes me appreciate her work even more!
The genuine respect these women have for one another is really beautiful to see. I don't think anyone was "sidelined" or talked down to. I do applaud Glenn Close for her humility, while she is LITERALLY seated at a table of fan girls. Loved the energy of this group of phenomenally talented women, who never once strayed into toxic feminist territory.
@@nachoalfonso2614 I agree, it doesn't really matter. But there is a female mediator who has been a part of past roundtables. She was really good, not sure if she still works at THR.
Every time I see Rachel Weisz I wanna ask her: What's a place like you doing in a girl like this..?? (It's a line from the original The Mummy movie and it has stuck with me for years! Hahaha!)
I like how relaxed this is and the inter-interviewing. It's nice. What's amazing is the interviewer asks linear and uncomplicated questions in my opinion, which is expected as a basic interview but the interviewees actually ask each other questions about things they are genuinely interested in not only as women but as actors.
It's a shame he started there and they went on and on about the current climate instead of allowing these fine actors to discuss their craft. By starting the discussion there, the mediator immediately put the emphasis on the more generic notion of "women" instead of focusing their individual work and achievements. Tiresome.
Branner it’s a prerequisite for the women roundtables every year and I’m so tired of it. By actually talking about their art is what is proving women have great stories to tell. None of the women’s performances were the same and yet they get little time to explore the many facets of being complicated and complex women through their roles. I wish actresses would refuse to answer these questions and just talk about their art the same way the men’s roundtables get to do every year, no matter the controversies in the industry. Which is I prefer all the other panels save for the women’s.
My gosh they’re ALL amazing! I love love love Rachel Weisz and the fact that she speaks the least here but is so humble and warm hearted and funny, and I also love that Gaga well and truly held her own here and offered so much to the table.
Lady Gaga talking about working with Robert Rodriguez on Machete Kills and Sin City 2 brought such a big smile on my face. Robert was the first director ever to hire her for an acting gig and although they may be minor roles, you can tell how appreciate and proud she is of them.
I like how Gaga talk about jaw movement, the expression when you acting, how interacting with audience, how use mic properly, she such as detail person!
@@l2r1111 I kept watching till about 40min mark before I started getting really nauseous and it hadn't stopped. Probably would be easier to just listen without the video, like a podcast.
I have to admit, listening in on how Lady Gaga prepared her self for the role of A Star is Born and sounding so eloquent and so detailed and so professional - man, she's really something!!
This is one of my favourite roundtables because there's an actual discussion going on between the ladies! Sometimes there's a question and answer format that is a little staid but I guess it's reliant on the participants.
