On the Feast of the Baptism of the Lord, the Church gives us Acts 10 as the second reading -- presumably because it teaches us about baptism in the early Church.
Dr. Brant Pitre will show how this passage shows the necessity of baptism, and that God intended it not just for Israel, but for the Gentiles.
To learn more about this feast of the Baptism of the Lord, and the connections between the readings for this at Mass on this day, subscribe today to The Mass Readings Explained:

@tony Sorry, but your position is historically inaccurate. Jesus promised his church would exist in every century and would make binding decisions concerning the faith until the end of time. That church is the church with the chair of peter and the only church that has that chair and has existed in every century is the Catholic church. #historicalFact

@@tysonguess How could Peter be the first Pope? there is no proof He was ever in Rome, His ministry was to the Jews, Paul went to the Romans. Besides, Peter died about 300 years before the Catholic Church existed. Jesus wasn't referring to Catholicism, "Church" literally means a congregation not a building. He was talking about the Congregation of the "Firstborn". The apostle Paul speaks of the followers of Jesus Christ who have been enrolled in the heavens as “the congregation of the firstborn,” the first ones accepted by God as sons on the basis of their faith in Jesus’ sacrifice and the first of Christ’s followers to be resurrected with no need to die again.-Heb 12:23. These are part of the 144,000 to rule in the Heavenly Kingdom.

truth be told correct the first church was a group of people not a building. Peter was our first pope next was Linus who is mentioned in the Bible along with Cletus then clement 1. What kind of proof are you looking for? Christ was referring to one faith, one church. That’s the harsh reality. The truth hurts but won’t kill you, I promise.

@@cotaryan3740 How could Peter be the first Pope if the Catholic Church didn't even exist until the 4th Century? That is fact, Constantine made it the State religion to unite the many quarreling religions who were adopting Pagan practices and united them into one large Pagan religion, Catholicism. Jesus' "Church" (Congregation of the firstborn) was definitely not the Catholic Church. Now, THAT'S the TRUTH. Look it up.

*Attention Dear Catholic Production* blessed having Dr. Brant Pitre! Do you use Video Tags? Please use them. As this channel deserves millions of views... In years of research I found no one who SLOWLY explains everything in detail! Makes perfect sense! And his explanation is Brilliant! You do promotion to increase view, I believe all people especially Christians need to understand scripture in the what Dr. Brant explains... So I want your videos to be viewed... *Even I am creating views for this channel!* 😊 Because I love it! Promotions can help this channel get millions of views! Many people don't know about this channel and don't think there is good explanation as videos of this channel don't get as many views as others... I as a researcher who studied Bible, looked for this kind of explanation! Many Christians are losing their faith! They need to hear the meaning of the word! Without the meaning their faith becomes weak! Many would love to see your videos! Thanks such a blessing!

Many have believed that the apostles/disciples having the holy spirit were given all knowledge & their writings always straight from God, but as we look into them deeply, we see that they didn't know everything, God was only showing them what he wanted of them. Therefore we shouldn't take every well meaning opinion of Paul & such as God's word. Many will follow Paul's words over what Jesus had already established, yet Jesus is the real teacher & his words are the way. Study carefully & seek your own guidance from his holy spirit.

the context of Peter’s statement here is the famous vision of the sheet that comes down from Heaven and the revelation to Peter by God, through the vision, that He has accepted the Gentile people...that salvation isn’t just for the Israelites, but that it’s for the Gentiles as well. Your comment concerning binding are the words of Christ to Peter being given the Key and his authority concerning Sin (i.e., the institution of the Sacrament of Penance) that priests have the authority of Christ to bind or loose forgiveness of sins. Don't confuse the meanings your are using it incorrectly. This interpretation was concerning receiving Gentiles and Baptizing those who believe in Christ. God Bless

Acts 10:44-47 KJVS [44] While Peter yet spake these words, the Holy Ghost fell on all them which heard the word. [45] And they of the circumcision which believed were astonished, as many as came with Peter, because that on the Gentiles also was poured out the gift of the Holy Ghost. [46] For they heard them speak with tongues, and magnify God. Then answered Peter, [47] Can any man forbid water, that these should not be baptized, which have received the Holy Ghost as well as we? The blessing of Abraham is receiving the Holy Spirit. Galatians 3:14 KJVS [14] That the blessing of Abraham might come on the Gentiles through Jesus Christ; that we might receive the promise of the Spirit through faith. Which turns one away from their iniquities. Acts 3:25-26 KJVS [25] Ye are the children of the prophets, and of the covenant which God made with our fathers, saying unto Abraham, And in thy seed shall all the kindreds of the earth be blessed. [26] Unto you first God, having raised up his Son Jesus, sent him to bless you, in turning away every one of you from his iniquities.

The Second Temple had a court for the Jews only and one for the gentiles. The original warning stone to the gentiles has been found: www.timesofisrael.com/ancient-temple-mount-warning-stone-is-closest-thing-we-have-to-the-temple/ It says: "No foreigner may enter within the balustrade around the sanctuary and the enclosure. Whoever is caught, on himself shall he put blame for the death which will ensue.” The Gentiles were allowed to convert to Judaism through circumcision. King Herod's father (Antipater) was an Edamite convert. (Hence the reason it was quoted that it was 'better to be Herod's pig than his son'.)

@DD-uk1tq
@DD-uk1tq 4 года назад
Don't read too much into it. The Spirit can come upon one. Baptism is our dying to sin (removal of the effects of Original Sin) and being born new in Christ's body of which he is the Head and without it we are not saved. Remember in the sacrament of Confirmation one is SEALED with the gifts of the Holy Spirit making us stronger to teach Christ's truths.

D D Baptism is NOT the removal of the effects of Original Sin. Original Sin is what Adam an Eve committed that makes us imperfect. Are we then perfect without sickness and death after Baptism? That makes no sense.
@DD-uk1tq
@DD-uk1tq 4 года назад
You then don't understand that sacrament nor do you know your catechism and it has nothing to do with sickness the sacrament of baptism removes the stain of original sin so that we may enter heaven if we with our free will choose not to sin mortal sin

D D There's no point in this discussion, I went to Catholic school and Church through the 8th grade. I had the Catechism and Sacraments and went to Mass and learned that none of it was Scriptural, all just Catholic Tradition. If you knew the Scriptures you would see that most Catholic teachings are lies, and I despise the Church and everything about it. Why don't you Google "Pope's Audience Hall" and see the beautiful structure Catholicism has built?

No, He's not saying all religions are equal, He's saying all people are equal in God's eyes. The Jews would no longer have the special position with God because of rejecting the Messiah, now the way was open for all Gentiles. I don't understand how people like this can deserve fancy titles when all they know is Church tradition and Philosophy, they over-analyze Scriptural meanings so they can sound knowledgeable .

People do it all the time though - misinterpret Scripture. Before coming into the Catholic Church a few years back, I used to attend at a nondenominational church where they were offering a ministry apprenticeship program for anyone interested in serving in a ministry or for personal enrichment. We had homework assignments & papers to write. One of the things I was expecting to see during this course was an authoritative rendering of Scripture. That, however, was not to be. As time progressed, it became very obvious that everybody in that class could interpret the Scriptures anyway they felt: there was no consensus. So I learned that there is no real authoritative way to interpret the Scriptures in these churches. No so with the Catholic Church. Since it was the Church who’d given us the writings & the Christian Bible as we know it throughout history, the Church has about 2K years of history & has already wrestled with & dealt with things that other churches really can’t answer. That’s been my observation.
