HAHA i realized the irony as i was saying it. i had just started a new session and i didn't calibrate my controller yet for soft drifting, which is why you see me miss 2 mini turbos right before that.
@@laserfoxpro It's a thing with the gamecube controller where you can use the 45 degree notches for soft drifting which requires a 44 degree angle. I push the stick a few degrees upwards from neutral, then hold Start+X+Y to reset it. This makes the controller stick think that all coordinates are slightly lower than they really are, turning my 45 degree notches into ~44 degree notches. Then I can drift left and right by using the top left / top right notches.
Was randomly recommended you a month ago, binged like all your videos. You got me back into mario kart, its always been a fun game but i never tried the more competitive side cause i was like "im just gonna loose anyways." Watching your videos, along with a bunch of your shorts made it really nice and much easier to look at what i should do, along with some people you've colabed with. Its been a lot of fun getting back into mario kart, actually have been using my switch again. Love the content man, thank you for the boost to try
Yoshi Teddy is just so much fun to play with honestly. It controls exactly how I want this game to control, the drift is so gratifying, the lines you can take are great. I love it. It maximizes everything I love about this game. I'm happy that it is optimal rather than speed combos which are infinitely less fun to play with imo.
I love how it controls as well. For frontrunning, it definitely feels the best. Its higher acceleration and mini turbo are both very noticeable. With other combos, a higher speed stat is not very noticeable despite still making a big difference. I'm still most confident with King Boo, but I can't deny that this combo is amazing. Plus, this was my old best combo (with peach instead; same stats as yoshi) so I have used this combo for more time.
@@Shortcat321 I personally have been maining Kamek teddy buggy which is just in between Yoshi and King Boo for the speed and mini turbo. He just feels like such a good balance to me

@@Shortcat321 specifically katakana uses words from other languages but has the same pronounciations from hiragana, which is the lettering. japanese has 3 (ish) alphabets, hiragana and katakana, and then kanji borrows from chinese lettering to "simplify" (it's anything but simple lmao) it all. so スターフェスティバル is the katakana for the english phrase star festival.

Thank you! I use a capture card. I used the Elgato HD60 S+, and this video is the first one where I used the Elgato 4K60 Pro (built a new computer that can handle it, figured I'd get this and try it out) and it does look better now. It's weird cause the Switch can only output in 1080p, so I can't actually say if this card is the reason or if it has something to do with uploading to RU-vid in 4K. There are cheaper capture cards out there, but I don't know if their quality will be as high. All you need other than the capture card is a computer, 2 monitors in total (one for the computer and one for the switch), and 2 HDMI cables in total. I don't think you can record without a capture card, besides the 30 second clips that the switch lets you make (in 720p) or by using a camera to record the screen.
I use the Razer capture card for my speedruns because it was on sale at my local Walmart, but i have heard very good things about the card you use Cat.
Thanks for getting me back into mario kart! Remember playing this a few years back, really fun game. I didnt really know there was this much of a competitive side to the game so definitely going to try and see what thats like. (Also thanks for all the great content over the years)
It would be really funny to see you do an all blinged out setup with full gold mario, gold kart/tires/glider. Thing controls like an actual tank but it's such a flex if you come out on top with it.

This game has gone from child like fun and enjoyment challenging your friends to a race as your favorite mario character and even characters from splatoon, animal crossing, and Legend of Zelda if you enjoy those more, to what color yoshi you like the best. Personally, im a fan of light blue yoshi, but overall i like Daisy more anyway.
i really appreciate all of shortcats fun challenges, but if he ever decides to post videos of him just racing, i would 100% love that too, he has such a great character and persona that makes his videos so enjoyable!!

Amazing how good you are when you use a meta combo. Jesus lol usually you are experimenting which puts you at a disadvantage most times but it is crazy seeing a meta combo in the hands of a skilled player. Good races!

Heres a challenge: I first saw it on ..Raysfire. You attempt to get all 12 places without having it duplicate. If it duplicates you restart the challenge. I recommend doing it with inward drift. Or playing with a friend. All 12 places would be easily accessible since 12/2 is 6. Should reduce the races u have to do. But it'll be harder. Just to make it a little different from Raysfire's video.

Ive been using oeach teddy buggy blue standard wheels and cloud glider and quite honestly if feels really good. I know its better with the rollers but this version feels fun and i get some wins with it too despite losing a bit of mini turbo. Loving your videos dude!
You can actually keep all of your triples after dodging a Blue Shell with a Mushroom. You have to pretty much do it in the last few frames to not have them disappear but I've done it recently in the past couple weeks.
i find birdo scooty to be more enjoyable to play with but the classic yoshi teddy will always be a W in my books. Happy to see you tryharding for once rather than shafting yourself with challenges lmao

I have an idea for a challenge you could do What if you okay mariokart but the only part of the screen you can see is the minimap, items, and the position you are in. You should probably allow smart steering for this as courses like rainbow or road would be hell. This challenge would be great to test game knowledge and muscle memory of these courses

It happens in all kinds of online games, but Mario Kart is especially funny because there's no way to communicate with them. There's no voice chat or messaging system. Just you and your opponent competing to ruin eachother's days.

Id like to see you try to recreate either waluigi racer or waluigi racer mk2 and drive as waluigi with it since its my favorite double dash kart and the mk2 looks cool to i just hope we get it in like the future where they will add it as an kart (hopefully make it an good one) in an dlc or somthing but id like to see that as an challange.
I am still curious as to how valid swapping out the Teddy Buggy for the City Tripper is, as the stats look similar. I've been using that combo pretty much since I got it. I just think its a cute combo with Pink Yoshi. Using a stat calculator, I still cannot tell if the combo is valid, as I do not know the ins and outs of MK8.
Short answer: Yoshi Teddy is better in a comp standpoint because of its higher speed. Long answer: Yoshi Teddy has a higher speed stat which is better than Yoshi Tripper, because the amount of speed you lose is not worth the small increase in handling, traction, and weight. First, the weight stat is the 4th best stat in the game, handling is the 5th, and traction is 7th. Speed is very important for items such as mushrooms, bullets, and piranha, as those items use your speed stat for how fast it goes. Handling is how sharp you can turn in a mini-turbo, weight is how easily you can be bumped, and traction is how much you slip on ice and dirt/gravel. These stats aren't needed often, and when they do pop up, they aren't very influential to the race. Super short answer: Speed too good, rest sucks ass.
does getting hit give invincibility? if so, if you are in first and only have a green shell and a blue shell is about to hit you could you green shell a wall and hit yourself to dodge blue? or could you throw a banana forward and slip on it to dodge it?
Why is this better than my choice of Link on the Biddybuggy using roller wheels with the Hylian kite? I have beaten online players that are using this Yoshi combo no problem and I have used the Yoshi combo and don't see why it's better. I didn't feel like I was doing any better than I normally do.

I was playing online just the other day and there was with guy who had 99,999 vr. He would get an occasional low spot but he would always win another race right after so he just stayed at it. I was blown away.
As usual another banger video! Shortcat ain't missin' 🔥 Noticed the Image quality change too! I read that you got a new capture card. Hope it's treating you well alongside your new Computer! ❗Funfact as to why the image quality looks better: The Resolution actually isn't directly tied to the better image quality in this case, moreso the bitrate cap that RU-vid has at 1080p, has increased. The compression of 1080p, especially with racing games, is horrendous due to a relatively low bitrate cap that RU-vid has. Now to bypass that (to a certain extend), you can do exactly what you just did, record 1080p footage at 4k (And obviously export it as such after editing)! All that results to a cleaner looking image, although the switch only runs at 1080p natively Oh yes also: I did mention that racing games are really demanding for a high bitrate, so what you could do is to increase the bitrate in OBS until you start to feel uncomfortable with the video-file size. I'd recommend a bitrate with the absolute maximum of 50.000kbp/s. Even that is probably too much.
Even with the 1080p card, i experimented recording at 70,000 kbps and uploading that to youtube, also upscaled to 1440p to hopefully get a better codec on youtube. i did have to do that originally as youtube would use av1 for 1080p and vp09 (the good one) for 1440p, but i heard that bigger channels dont have to worry about this. and sure enough, i get vp09 for 1080p uploads now. so if anything it must be the recording bit rate being able to be higher, or that uploading in 4k helps even more than uploading in 1440p. actually i just read the elgato site, the maximum that the hd60 s+ card can record at is 60k kbps. with the 4k60 pro card i'm recording at 100k kbps which is almost certainly overkill, but the file sizes are okay with me and the maximum advertised bit rate is 200k. another factor that i did not isolate is i was using a pretty slow computer to do the old recordings. i still had the settings at maximum, and it would drop frames more often but i dont know if that affected the bit rate. the video files still came out saying they had a high bit rate. anyway i've dealt SO much with tuning this that i never want to think about it again so i may never know if my old computer made a difference haha

Hey shortcut if you go right on the ending glider on squeaky clean sprint you can go on a shortcut.there are multiple options you can go to.first,you can go on a platform with dash panels,second, you can hop on a mushroom,and of course you can on the normal path
you have said that the most important stats are mini turbo plus speed, I have no game knowledge so,, is there a combo with high mini turbo without also having pretty low handling? Also would be curious to see a combo thats got huge traction but not crazy handling just to see what it would be like,, dunno if thats a thing either bc those stats are ususally kinda linked
Ok so I’m very new to actually trying on this game, but on that first race wouldn’t it have been better to use the shroom through the double item box and guarantee something to block a shell? I guess they could have smuggled a shroom up to second still but I would be more concerned about getting killed than getting passed on a shortcut.
Yes, I think given my lead and the fact that there would likely be a red shell behind me, and no blue shell is likely to come, I should have done that. That's the type of thing that I usually don't think about when recording videos.
