Thank you, Dr. Hansen- I have been an RN X 45 years, and an ICU nurse for 28 of those. This is, without a doubt, one of the most concise, easy to understand videos on ARDS I have ever seen. It clarified alot of previous questions I've had on this topic, and has given me a teaching tool I will be sure to pass on for the younger ICU nurses, so they can understand this better. I subscribed, and will be sure to follow all of your videos. You are the best, thanks again!

I had something similar when I was put on a Statin. Suddenly, I had terrible shortness of breath. I seriously thought I was going to die. My doctor thought it was just my asthma acting up, but it was different as if my lungs were full of glass. This went on for months with my condition worsening. Thankfully, I forgot to take the drug one day and I realized that the symptoms were a little better. I quit taking the drug entirely, but it took months for my lungs to recover.

Thank you for that great information. I am a retired NICU RN so I saw a lot of RDS and CLD in premature infants. With the COVID 19 disease causing ARDS in the adult population I have been quite interested in the strategies you use in the ICU. With the information coming out from France about avoiding the use of corticosteroids and NSAIDs, have you stopped using Solumedral? (spelling?) I found it quite interesting as well that you use prone positioning in the adult population. Thanks for these videos.

Hi Dr. Mike; Thank you for all of the informative videos on this pandemic. Can you do a future video on the issue that has been discussed about the differences in Covid 19 treatment with respect to ventilation vs. high flow oxygen. This video illustrates that to some degree, but I am wondering if you think Covid treatment should be different at this point than typical protocols for other lung problems. Thanks again for all you are doing!

When dealing with refractory hypoximia, Would each of these changes, have the same effects on decreasing cardiac output? I guess what I'm trying to ask is would increasing MAP by increasing PEEP affect cardiac output more than increasing MAP by extending I -time or increasing RR?

A.I. Dimmer Hi A.I., ETT might be a tad more than 4 cm above carina, but it’s close. Anyway, I’m glad HFOV works for kids. Unfortunately, it’s a no go in adults. We were using it in adults until 2014 or so, when there was a high quality study in NEJM that didn’t show benefit.

When you talk about opening up the alveoli, is it like getting the mucus out by performing the heimlich maneuver except with the machine? Is that what you are talking about in that section of the video. I had read up on the heimlich maneuver and read that it was initially developed for getting the mucus out of the alveoli for asthma. Who is your targeted audience for your videos? I've watched a couple of them so far. Some seem to be for people interested info on the current virus going around but this on seems like it's more targeted for a medical student with all ghe medical jargon. Me, I was looking for videos on the virus and how my reactive airway would play into things if I contracted the virus. I seen that you was an asthma reaction too when you exercise.

Can severe hypoxia cause leg/calves muscles pain that with severe shortness of breath makes you unable to wall for more than few steps , forces you to stop and take deep breaths? My pulmo doc ignores it, though l have a history of arterial oxygen going to 55.

Hi Dr.Mike. I'm Cathie ICU RN from Ohio. At a glance it seems that the mortality rate for those with active disease in China is higher than those in other countries. Am I accurate in that and do you think it is just better care or other factors and what would they be. And what's your opinion on droplet vs true resp. Spread at this point. Thanks.
