Laniakea is a very special, somewhat quirky, spacey, subtly unpredictable, occasionally brutally idiosyncratic sound synthesis module for the Eurorack from a small two-man manufacturer called Magerit located in Madrid.
The module seems to be based on some kind of happy accident magnetic trap. The name should mean "the Universe" od "cosmos" in a language I don't know, and not, Greek is not meant.
This Eurorack synthesiser module is an almost complete synthesiser voice. Actually, you can screw it into some Eurorack case with literally no companion (well, almost; it helps if some power supply is in…) and enjoy some crazy airy endless cosmic ambient universe. Of course, the universe becomes more lively and expanding if you use some dark matter… or, in lack of this, some other Eurorack modules … to CV-modulate the Laniakea. Use a S&H source or another Zufallsgenerator to "kick off the chaos and let the worlds break loose".
There is an operating manual for the module. Yes. It describes what which controller and which button should do when you do this or that. Because the operating instructions do it that way.
What the manual says is obviously true… well, sometimes. It gets interesting when it's not true. Which is the case most of the time.
After, by "happy accident", getting a piano-like sound from the module, I couldn't help but let it play for about an hour. You can hear a short excerpt here.
To be honest, Laniakea was the first module to move me towards Eurorack modular world, so be aware or you'll end up like me.
