I've had this book for a very long time, never used it. 2e came out and the group moved on to it. It's well done, has some cool extras Gary didn't fill out, and it has a system for creating zero-level characters. I didn't like it at first, but it grew on me over time. I don't care for the WSG & DSG either, but there are definitely useful things in both of those too. My least favorite 1e AD&D book, the most underwhelming, is the Manual of the Planes. It really has no new information that can't be gleaned from other books. Not a bad book, I just expected more new info for spending $$ on another hc AD&D manual.

I only played Greyhawk in 2e but I did read the "Gord the Rogue" stories by Gygax. I really loved the grittiness of the setting that Gygax established in the novels.

I think its worth having just for the spell and magic-item sections.
