I just finished Jennifer Niven's "Ada Blackjack" and was so moved that I have been Googling Ada and found this short film. "Ada Blackjack Rising" is hauntingly beautiful and soul-stirring. Artfully shot with stunning, evocative photography, and a poetic voice over/acting job by the beautiful Anna Agliutruqti. A small masterpiece. By the way, the book is also excellent and Ms. Niven is an exemplary writer.

Ada Blackjack's story is truly remarkable and inspiring. Her strength and resilience in the face of adversity is a testament to the human spirit and the power of determination. As a single mother, Ada faced seemingly insurmountable challenges when she joined an expedition to the Arctic in the early 1920s. However, she refused to be defeated and instead showed incredible bravery and resourcefulness, ultimately saving the lives of her fellow explorers. What is particularly striking about Ada's story is the way in which her indigenous background contributed to her fortitude. Her heritage instilled in her a deep connection to the natural world and a profound respect for the power of nature. This, combined with her own inner strength, allowed her to overcome incredible odds and emerge as a true hero. Ada Blackjack's story is one that should be shared widely, particularly in schools. Her example serves as a powerful reminder of the importance of perseverance, resilience, and determination, and can inspire us all to strive for greatness in the face of adversity. Ada Blackjack truly was the bravest and strongest mother on the planet, and her legacy will continue to inspire generations to come. Thank you for this beautiful tribute to her

I couldn't agree more, what a strong and resilient human being she was. I wish someone will make a full movie about her and the hole expedition. I wonder were the two men, who headed for Sibiria, disappeared.

Not even Inuits were able or wanted to live in this region, but the Anglos and their insatiable thirst for land, money and power make them so blind that sometimes it kills themselves.

Cool and all but two things. 1. She wasnt the only survivor, she was abandoned by the rest of the party except for 1 man who fell ill of scurvy. She cared for him until he died. Second she also had a cat they took on the trip.

Crazy story and a great woman.. I really wonder, if they would've saved her, knowing that all 4 white western men did already die and "only" a inuit woman was left to save....
@paddyeason9677
@paddyeason9677 27 дней назад
Good question... I guess we will never know. Though once she was found and rescued, a number of people (Noice and Stefansson most notably) were very keen to fight over the exploitation rights to her story...

I believe she could do it, as innuit are prepared for times like that and it is their culture to utilize what knowledge whe had to stay alive, I`d read an elder went out to hunt and a severe storm overtook him, 2 weeks later a search party went out to see if they could find his body, he scolded them, he said he is innuit, all he had to do was to hunker down in a snow cave and wait it out, exactly what he`d done, he has that right to scold the ignorant.
