To understand the figure of Ada Lovelace, one must first talk about her parents: the famous British poet Lord Byron and Anna Isabella Noel Byron, better known as Lady Byron. Her mother met Lord Byron in 1812, and married him in January 1815, although the marriage immediately began to go wrong. At the end of that same year, on December 10, 1815, his only daughter, Augusta Ada Byron, was born in London. Only a month later, after learning that her husband was unfaithful to her, Anna Isabella abandoned him and obtained a divorce with the help of her parents. Byron left England that same year and never returned.
Ada Byron, therefore, received no greater influence from her father than her surname, and her mother undertook to promote her interest in mathematics and logic in the hope that these subjects would prevent her daughter from developing an unpredictable and temperamental of your parent. Unfortunately, it was not common at the time for women to study mathematics and science, but from a young age and throughout her life, Ada Lovelace had very good tutors, such as Scottish astronomer and mathematician Mary Somerville, who was one of the first women to join the Royal Astronomical Society of London. Somerville, as a pioneer female scientist paradigm, exerted a major influence on Ada's life.
When she was seventeen years old, Ada Lovelace began attending London high society parties, and at one of them Mary Somerville introduced English mathematician Charles Babbage, who shared with Ada a fondness for mechanical wits. Babbage was 44 at the time and developing the differential machine, a mechanical calculator that fascinated Ada. The two became very close friends, and maintained an extensive correspondence.
When Babbage lectured about his new project at the University of Turin, a young engineer named Luigi Menabrea transcribed that talk in French, and a friend of Babbage's commissioned Ada to translate it into English. Ada not only translated it, but added her own notes, which tripled the original text in length. That work was published in September 1843, and Ada Lovelace signed it with her initials: AAL In the last of those long notes she had added - coordinates from A to G - Ada had described an algorithm by which the analytical machine could compute Bernoulli numbers. That is, Ada had written the first computer program in history. In addition, in her notes, she predicted that the applications of that machine would go far beyond simple mathematical calculations, which made her a visionary in computing.
