Screw those who think you are a fraud. You should keep doing what you love. All that matters is that there are more people that appreciate your music than the amount that think that you are a fraud. Thank you for making such wonderful music for us.
Don't worry about the "trolls", the internet is full of them. They take advantage of their anonimous accounts to talk bullshit about people. Salutations from Argentina, great playing by the way.
Your skill with double bass is amazing. Although I play tenor saxophone, you make me want to pick up a double bass. I love your content and don't worry about other "respectable musicians" and enjoy doing what you love.
Hello! I have been visiting this channel on and off for 3 years now and I want to just leave a comment letting you know that, regardless of the time it takes for you to release a new video I come back every few months just to check haha, I think your talent should be recognized more but it is what it is. Please continue playing it is just wonderful and inspiring.
I never doubted of you, I did hear the unusual sound, but I quickly figured out that it is simply the acoustic sound cleaned up by the pick up he used. C'mon, do some people really believe that he will record himself twice, and mimicking the entire playing? I'm not a contrabass player at all, but even like that, I don't think somebody would invest their time making fake videos .-. what would he even obtain from it? Nothing. all I see in this man is a master who's dominated this instrument to the highest level I've seen for a contrabass.
Thanks so much you are actually amazing and have inspired me to learn double bass I've been playing for nearly half a year. You got sas, thanks for every thing Lev
Bron Brader Thank you Bron. I am very glad to inspire you to learn double bass and I hope to find some way to be useful to you and others in the future.
I’m sure you can do it with practice, everyone has to start somewhere. I’m picking up the cello soon and most likely will sound like a whale in pain, so I am sure you can play it
I watched one of your videos at school to be inspired by and I fell in love to it. I always listened to it even while doing homework. But once I watched this video, I was heartbroken and full with tears😢. I had no clue how some people just don’t understand what they are saying. They need to watch their speech. Do they know how ordinary 6th graders play the double bass? Compared, you have the talent in your fingers! My friends watched your videos and started doing solos with violinists to reach your level. I fell really bad for what random people thought about you.
Did you used to play cello before bass or how you started using your 5th finger ( pinky) on high notes? it's so rare when someone have that finger on his technique. I know that technique is been teached in netherlands and in some parts in france. Lovely video by the way.
I play the double bass as well and I don't think I'll get as good as you any time soon but I think you are a great inspiration to those who play bass or want to play your a great inspiration and I hope one day I can be as good as you.
Do you have any live performances in the future that I could attend? I would love to see and hear you play live. Your videos, I feel do your playing no justice. Have a great day Mr. Weksler.
NerdRealms My dear friend I am quite pleased with the reaction of the public to my videos, especially since I am not trying to compete with anyone or impress anybody. I am also sure that a live performance can't be sound better than studio recording. Have a great day!
Wonderful, Lev. How do you feel about transcribing Marcello’s oboe concerto in d minor ( especially mov 2, adagio) for double bass? Bach himself transcribed it for piano, and I feel like this instrument would play it wonderfully.
The introduction reminded me of my grandpa he was so sarcastic and passive aggressive thank you Also your playing is marvelous. Don't listen to the haters they're probably jealous violinists lol
Joyce K Thank you Joyce for your comment! Because of the comments like yours I am changing my opinion about my “introduction" for the better! No, Joyce, my haters are bad bass players, and the violinists love me!
I'm so glad to have found this video! After checking out some of your other videos (I particularly enjoyed "Flight of the Bumble Bee" and "Батальонный разведчик") I am absolutely amazed by your meticulous technique and beautiful sound. As a violist looking to pick up the bass as well, I'd like to say that A) I've never seen such justice for a viola piece on another instrument before and B) have you ever considered making instructional videos for the double bass? Such as explanations of technique and musical theory relevant to the instrument and the rest of the orchestra?
Jason, just Jason Thank you, Jason! My alternative technique of playing the double bass is designed to satisfy my personal performing needs. However, due to the fact that many of my viewers are interested in my arrangements for a double bass, I am working on publishing some of them with the fingering indication and explanations of some of the features of my technique. Unfortunately, I have a very slow progress in that area because of my poor knowledge of word processing applications.
As an intermediate player I could only dream of reaching this level of emotion and quality sound that you produce. Also, if anyone knows, how high off his fingerboard are his strings?
This isn’t a viola concerto it’s a cello concerto that happens to be also transcribed for viola he may have heard it on the viola but it’s not a viola concerto it’s a cello one
That is a cool idea to use alternate tuning, but I question why play bass if you don't use the typical sound. Again find the idea of whatever you did very interesting, sorry I cannot understand your accent very well so if there is some thing I got wrong in this comment please do clarify it.
Lego herp guy Using an alternate tuning, you can use typical sound and nontypical; to play music written for “normal instruments”; to play very fast music (fast music is high music). On my "Flight of the bumble bee for two double basses" there was such a comment: "Wow! While the sonority of the double bass is ideally suited for the bumble bee I never thought I'd hear someone playing it on that instrument for the obvious technical reason of playability so…” I didn't want to disappoint the commentator by answering that the sonority of the traditional double bass is ideal suited for "The flight of the elephant"
nonsalantni disident Thanks for the advice! Maybe you are right, but not in connection with this video. (After all, there are also useful critical comments that I really appreciate). In my speaking introduction of "Adagio" I'm not trying to challenge the comments of my so-called "critics" or prove anything to anyone. Many people say that I look like George Carlin, so I assumed that I can be as funny as him, and tried to be in this capacity. But it looks like I was wrong! :)
I feel like you were very uncomfortable when you read those comments, but you kept being gentleman as always. I saw hateful comments in all your videos, like you can t play or your play is fake. Please don t give up uploading videos because of these kinds of losers. 1 day you will be reputable and respected in this "internet world" and then you leave as legend :) Best regards. (sorry for my english)
show those stupid musician elitists who's boss mr Weksler! can't stand those snobs who mime along to whatever certain people say. you are a real musician.
Juliet siivonen I prepare some of my arrangements for publication with the fingering indication and explanations of some of the features of my technique. When it’s ready I can send you a copy.
nemo227 The reviews I have quoted in my "Speaking introduction" was not a criticism of my performance in any way. These were just personal attacks. To me it was a material for a satire, a comedy show which it seems like I have staged unsuccessfully :)
MR.LEV I REALLY ENJOY YOUR VIDEOS. MY FIFTEEN YEAR OLD SON IS LEARNING TO PLAY BASS INSTRUMENT AT SCHOOL. WE LOVE HEARING MORE AND MORE OF YOU. I DO BELIEVE YOU'RE PLAYING THIS INSTRUMENT WITH YOUR OWN HANDS. MY SON ADMIRE YOU SO MUCH AND I LOVE YOUR MUSIC. PLEASE LET US KNOW MORE ABOUT YOU,WE'LLBE WAITING FOR MORE VIDEOS.
Anita Pierce I am working on publishing some of my arrangements with the fingering indication and explanations of some of the features of my technique. When its ready I’ll send you a copy.
I wonder if your critics really understand your brand of delicious sarcasm? As an experienced filmmaker, I am still trying to work out the difference between an "actual video" and one this isn't actual; is this hypothetical, suppositional or what? Like so many others, I enjoy your playing and the critics be damned. Thank you for some wonderful entertainment.
Dr Bob Hardie Thank you very much for your kind words. I don’t know if they understand my sarcasm, but I am completely satisfied with the fact that you appreciate it and it inspires me to the subsequent “feats”.
Why do you hold your bow higher up? My teacher always said to hold your bow at the frog! (I am a violist but I don't know if that makes a different in how you hold your bows)
But I think Mr. Lev has his point. Last time I was playing for Chinese Orchestra and most of the time we have to bow really hard on long notes (creating deep rich dense bass tone for the Chinese orchestral music) and French bow really is a mess for us so we switched to German bow. The mess is the imbalance feeling when holding such a big French bow compared to a cello French bow and the 'conventional' holding method (holding at the frog) of a French bow for Double Bass would be very troublesome as the bow is too heavy and the strength for the grip of the bow gradually lost when moving the bow towards the tip of the bow. Though we like French bow rather than the firm bulky German bow for quick, short, energetic notes play😊 Many thanks, Mr. Lev for pointing out the point when using French bow playing hard Double Bass pieces.
