I've seen carp in clear water swim around my line. Literally avoid it. But once pinned to the deck and certainly nothing reflective but agree you can't do to much. Every little helps. Makes perfect sense but manufactured out of the packet you shouldn't have to if a quality hook. BUT MAKE SURE YOU KNOW HOW TO SHARPEN AND NOT FILING THEM INTO KNIFES QUOTES NICK HELLUER. The rest is pretty much bob no but definitely agree with bigger hooks for bigger fish. I fished a venue in France where the average was 30lb and up to 60 plus. But I caught many at first on size six, and very few loss's. As the years progressed the loss's became more on six so had to increase to 4 and definitely 2 in the later years. 2009 to 2019 average increased to easy 40 plus. Simple or complicated rig's, they all work on their day. But you'll loose fish on every version. I don't know a 100% successful rig but they all have their advantages in different conditions too. I actually enjoy tinkering with different rig's. My most successful rig material was kryston snake skin in green. Never stripped back coating only the hair itself. Simple knotless Knott 6 inch length to swivel in a tulip bead with weight swivel on mainline over rig tubing over stem of tulip bead, so running or back stop bead over tubing. IF you didn't get that basically the weight changes places with rig like a reverse helicopter rig. 👍👍👍
I've used the same rig in situations shortened or lengthened the rig and caught, 44yrs carp fishing I'll stick to what I know.Been on lakes and been told a certain colour pop up and flavour won't catch I've used the same colour different flavour and bagged up.carp change the rules all the time.
Interesting that camouflaging your rigs won’t help. Watched a vid by Adam where he states he camps all his rigs/ leaders and shows an example. Think it was the one where he does 72 hours on a club lake and gets the headache? Mmmmm?
I think hand sharpening is a but of a myth personally. I went through a phase of about 5 years sharpening and I pricked more fish that came off in the first few seconds, and on more than a few occasions I wound a rig in to find the point has turned over and so was useless. Since going back to Gardner or Spotted Fin hooks straight from the packet, I cant remember dropping a fish (except one Korda hook where I left the green cap on the point!!! But that brings me onto wire thickness. Many hooks on the market are more adapt to landing sharks than a carp. A thick wired hand sharpened hook will not penetrate as far and as easy as a standard thinner wire hook. The makes i mentioned are a thinner wire and just go in, simples.
