I actually lost 47 pounds in the last 6 months. This video helped me out a lot when it first came out. For the first time in my life, I am no longer overweight! Thank you so much Adam!
well if you count calories and eat under a certain calorie limit everyday you will lose weight its physics, but making the lifestyle change to eat less sugar and eat a more balanced diet that will keep you more full and feel better will help you lose weight without doing complicated calorie counting. namely because lots of products with high sugar are super high calorie and you'll feel hungry after
This is so true. My question is always this, if "fat" was a problem and everyone started eating fat free things (like we did when they said "fat" was a problem), obesity and heart disease went up like crazy.
In the last year after watching this, I lost 100 lbs. It has helped immensely. Especially because I actually feel like I've eaten something after a fat heavy meal with a largely carb based starter for fiber. I now eat eggs in toast every morning because it turns out to be healthy and is one of my favorite childhood memories. Well, not healthy to get all of it from fat, but not cutting out fat basically.
It isn't though. You can always check the ingredients list, but if you want to be completely safe go for things without an ingredients list. Pick some fresh vegetables, meat and dried grains/legumes and you can easily have a sugar free diet. Nuts and low sugar fruit for snacks.
@@russelpacheco6296 Certain grains have benefits to them e.g. protein, iron. They are also less calories and help fill you up after you've had a reasonable amount of meat. If you exercise a lot or just want to lose weight then grains are essential.
Fat doesn’t directly make you fat, but it is the most calorie dense macronutrient (having more than double the calories of protein and carbs) eating more calories than your body’s needed amount results in them being stored as body fat. That’s not to say sugar is any better, which can still make you fat and has a plethora of bad health effects. To diet, you don’t necessarily have to cut out fat or sugar, but you need to find a balance that is sustainable and meets your goals.
Jake I think you would benefit from lectures by endocrinologist Dr Robert Lustig. Sure, energy balance for weight loss is one thing, but ingesting fructose- a slow mitochondrial poison that also fattens your liver is not worth any weight loss for vanity sake
Sugar is highly addictive. Not many people at all are capable of this "balance" you speak of or as others like to say , "in moderation". Might as well do yourself a favor and just not have it
@@taleseylad1249fats are a broader category than table sugar (sucrose). Sugar is a type of carb and you need some amount of carbs also. You could think of cutting sugar (possibly the worst carb) as analogous to cutting trans fats (possibly the worst fat).
Cheers for the video content! Excuse me for the intrusion, I am interested in your thoughts. Have you ever tried - Millawdon Dessert Allowed Trick (search on google)? It is a great exclusive product for discover low fat desserts recipes that that burn belly fat minus the headache. Ive heard some pretty good things about it and my BF finally got great results with it.
@Raksu Roltsukka Well according to Adam, the sugar industry invests money in hiding the truth to make a profit. Sounds evil, but hardly the first time someone has hid the truth for personal gain. It happens around the world daily
@Raksu Roltsukka accept your government is different than the lobbyists have been purposely tilted science in order to favor their opinion there for affecting what people think is objective facts and feeding them bias? Like come on, did you even watch the video?
I ate a Triple Cheeseburger the other day at McDonald's. It tasted like cardboard. The fries too. I think it's because McDonald's had been under so much pressure in the past to lower the fat content in their food. But people who regularly eat at McDonald's are still fat. The drinks and ice-cream are still very sweet.
Ancel Keys technically was not wrong. He did not say all fat was bad, he said saturated fat was bad. Saturated fat is bad along with sugar. It’s the unsaturated fats that are good fats.
Trans fats like vegetable oils eg. soybean, palm and omega 6’s that you get in margarine and fried/fast food are highly inflammatory. Good oils like coconut oil, olive oil, butter, fish oil/omega 3’s are essential for good health.
Brainwashed to believe carbohydrates are good. The sugar industry has done its job well. Dietary fiber is the only "carb" you should be concerned about getting. Fat is essential to cell growth, hormone production, insulation of bones and joints, and so much more. You would die without fat.
@@jonathandpg6115 never mind that vegans are in the only demographic that is in the normal BMI range, eating a diet predominantly carbs, everyone else is overweight or obese despite eating much more fat.
Mr Hawks vegans are healthier because a lot of them go vegan because they want to become healthier. in this they cut out a bunch of processed foods and make healthier decisions like to exercise and such. That's why they are healthier. everyone else isn't healthier because they are literally EVERYONE ELSE. the rest of the population, some care about their health, some don't. the bottom line is fat isn't bad for you and same thing with meat. in fact, it's good for you and taste damn good as well
Lost 10 pounds through "regular" dieting living in a constant hell for 6 months straight and then lost another 90 by eating a ketogenic diet and it was the best I felt in my entire life. Best my bloodwork numbers have ever been, too. Only part of that diet that was bad for my blood pressure were all the dumbasses trying to tell me it's a terrible thing. Once you tune those morons out, it's smooth sailing.
ZombifiedRob my mother went on the same diet. 64 year old women went from 256 to 166 in two years. Size 22 to 12. And the best part is she reduced her blood pressure so much she got to stop taking here pills for it and feels younger. And now the whole family is on this diet.
@Hello World No, they're actually not. It's /processed/ foods of *any kind* that increase heart disease and cancer, as well as meat that is overcooked/charred.
Depends. The sweetener used in Diet Coke isn’t necessarily a *danger* to people, but it has been known to harm your teeth faster than regular cane sugar found in Coca-Cola.
A year ago I cut out Alcohol, caffeine, anything coffee, drastically lowered my sugar consumption. I lost 15 lbs. and have kept it off. My vitals are healthier now. This video isn't lying.
I don’t like the sugar industry and I personally agree with this video BUT Adam the sugar industry will get on you for your statement in 03:25. The abstract for that article states “it is nevertheless supported by recent experimental research on sugar and sweet reward in laboratory rats.” You mentioned in a earlier episode that rats are “terrible test subjects.” In short don’t use research that had evidence based solely on lab rats.
Writing a rhetorical analysis on the video for class, as I am analyzing I am realizing how solid this video is, great production value and evidence. Also the examples and humor thrown in the video is a nice touch, makes it fun to watch. Nice job with adding sources, gives me more things to talk about and makes it easier to meet the page requirement, haha.
It was a little more complicated than a popular scientist saying: Fat makes you fat! Ever since Eisenhower, rumors started circulating that fat was to blame. Different scientists said different types of fat were the culprit, but when cutting these fats out of their diets didn’t help, people started to lose faith in these studies, and drew up the conclusion that all fats were bad for you! And the sugar industry was quick to capitalize on this!
Also. Walking everyday. The human body requires excercises to burn off weight deposits. It doesn't require much, literally just taking the stairs instead of the elevator.
1 kilogram of fat contains 9000 calories. You'd have to run up and down the stairs A LOT. Human body needs little exercise to stay moderately healthy, not lose weight. If you want to lose weight, you better do strength training
Calories in, calories out. Low fat variations when possible is just another tool like no sugar variations in order to limit calorie density in food allowing you to feel fuller on a calorie deficit. Yes, we need fat but there's no problem getting enough of it if you include some fatty fish, avocado, nuts and olive oil in your diet. There's no need to go for full fat cheese on top of that when those products have low fat variations, picking the low fat version will also limit saturated fat intake which I'd rather get from a steak once in a while. Also, cut added sugar completely, you don't have to choose either or, limit fat and remove added sugar.
The problem with this segment is it might get some people to just swap their dogma around. Fat bad, carbs good becomes Fat good, carbs bad. True, free sugar consumption has increased a lot in the last century or so but complex carb consumption (which is still sugar in the end, albeit a drip feed rather than a big lump at once) has formed a large proportion of energy intake since the development of agriculture. Keto works for some people who diet, but not for others, and it is not without the risk of both short and long term health effects, some of which we may not know about.
yup and it's alraedy happening in our culture. I hate that about how people think. It's always one good one bad we can't just live balanced. We have to be in extremes.
I went on Keto for 5 weeks, Went from 220 down to 200 (6' male), but I felt awful and felt worse as time went on. Introduced some more carbs in, such as a sweet potato a day and a bowl of oatmeal in the morning and felt much better. Granted I fell of the wagon and went back up to 215 over the course of the year, but I do eat less sugar than I used to.
Only if you cherry pick what he said to support the biases you already held. And people would do that regardless. It never advocated for an only fat based diet.
No, he's telling us if you're trying to lose weight or fat that sugar is the culprit of weight or fat gain not the misconception that fat is the reason for Weight gain.
the real problem is people eat too much sugar and fat for their sedentary lifestyles. there is a high fat diet some pro athletes use, but they get there fat from nuts, etc...so eating fat is fine in moderation like everything else, but most people just sit around and eat/drink sugar all day at their desk jobs.
They do but require work, cutting out fat isn't necessary if you're also cutting out sugar and carbs. You're made up of lots of fat, your brain is estimated to be made of 60% saturated fats so cutting fat doesn't seem conducive to a healthy diet. Carbs on the other hand are stored as a glycogen which is a quick fix energy boost that causes increased appetite when it runs low. Even if you fat ready to go to work for you the burning of the stored glycogen doesn't crave just any energy, it craves more glycogen aka carbs. Pretty vicious cycle to break when literally every food is LOADED with carbs because the industry KNOWS it's addictive and that the body craves it constantly since it burns so fast.
The USDA "coming against fat" being followed by "obesity skyrocketing" is a correlation that does not imply causation. You got to show that people indeed reduced significantly their fat consumption, and no other factor.
Well, one thing is for certain: the food we've eaten over the past 70 years contains a hell of a lot more sugar than anytime before. Sugar used to be something that only the wealthy could afford, and now it's in almost everything we eat.
Did the air suddenly contain more fat? The people in America only have so many sources of food that the general public uses, so it's easy to show that American food has decreased in fat content and increased in sugar content. The USDA controlling what foods can be brought to market, also reduces the likelihood of there being many other factors involved. There could be other factors contributing to it, but their effects are likely minimal, and not relevant.
Since I have been trying to cut out sugar, I’ve found out how much is contained in a lot of foods. The market is saturated so there’s not a lot of options, so rather than surrender I actively seek out healthy foods or create my own. Some drug and alcohol rehab centers also prohibit their clients from sugar and they really go into withdrawal. They go to meetings in town and I’ve seen them guzzling one soda pop and eating one candy bar after another. Not only has been forced on us it’s also highly addicting, like tobacco and alcohol.
Keto is actually one of the best diets a person can do if their body can handle it. I did it for a few months and lost 30 lbs and saw an improvement with my hypothyroid symptoms. But then I found out I have liver issues and can no longer eat keto. So check with your doctor and see if you can try it out if you want to lose weight!
Hearing all this makes it look like some things in real life in a way is exactly the same as high school life. And one of them is that humanity would rather believe, adore, and admire those with too much charisma and very little proper understanding of everything while do the exact opposite to those with high intelligence and a lot of proper understanding of everything.
Corn syrup sugar... HFCS was widely embraced by food formulators, and its use grew between the mid-1970s and mid-1990s, principally as a replacement for sucrose. This was primarily because of its sweetness comparable with that of sucrose, improved stability and functionality, and ease of use.
You can get fat from excessive carbs (which includes sugar) or excessive fats. Studies show you can lose weight by significantly cutting either one. Or you can keep both in moderation and stick to healier carbs and healthier fats.
Fat is a very important macronutrient, and some fats have even been used to treat diseases, like in that movie, Lorenzo's Oil, not to be confused with Lorenzo's Soil which is the second level of Earthworm Jim 2 and totally unrelated to the movie. It does have kick ass background music. The track is called "Subterranean" but I forget the composer.
Just for the record though, while the United States recommends something like 50-60% of kilocalories from carbohydrates, other countries also recommend that carbohydrates be the macro you consume the most. Recommended dietary intake varies according to country, but the range is from 35 - 60% carbs. What Yudkin specifically had a problem with was "sugar" which, colloquially, means "sucrose" which is made up of subunits of glucose and fructose. This is particularly bad for health, as it is extremely energy dense, lacking in nutrients, and is not satiating in the slightest, this is due to the fructose component of sucrose which, naturally, occurs alongside fiber which is very satiating. If you're about to do a triathlon then sucrose is good for you or, at least, not harmful, otherwise it's one of the worst things humans regularly consume except for alcohol.
Fat is the most calorically dense nutrient, by almost two fold or more in some estimates. It is true that added sugar increases the caloric density of food, but added fat has the potential to add much more calories by basic arithmetic. Also, saturated fat is directly related to heart disease this is just basic scientific fact at this point.
always confused me how the keto diet - which is low, if not completely lacking in, carbs, and high in fats - was supposed to make you shed pound after pound in a matter of weeks. not so surprising anymore
Actually, you’re kinda wrong. 1 gram of fat contains 9 calories and 1 gram of sugar contains 4. Fat or sugar don’t make you fat, too many calories does and fat contains more calories.
David22092001 I'm going to give you the benefit of the doubt and assume you misunderstood me. I'm taking about the fat in foods, not human fat. There are healthy fats in meat and nuts but unhealthy fats that are generated by chemicals or unhealthy products.
But still, it's not sugar that makes you gain weight, it's excessive calories. You can have your diet be mostly or entirely sugar but as long as you're in a calorie deficit, you'll lose weight.
Ok I've been craving for gummy worms lately for some reason.. and was about to order 1kg bundle of it.. but after watching this video, cancel that order!😅😆🤣
I got small spots of Herpes and also handled it making use of this eczema guide *4HerpesCure .Com* . The effects had been fantastic and so i decided to further make use of the treatment solution on my facial area. It decreased my breakouts and also just tends to make my skin feel a lot more wholesome.. .
This is a bit wrong, sure eating lots of suger isn't good but it's the calorie surplus that makes one gain weight and both sugar and fat is contributing to that in the west.
Some of the things that have been said within the past three months in response to the following comment: "I love this is a commentary on "fat-free" is a whole lie. The thing that makes you fat is sugar, not the fat." - - - - - "They both make you fat. It's excess calories that make you fat, not one specific substance" "A certain amount of fat is essential to health, think omega 3 for example, ultimately weight gain comes down to calories in vs calories out" "Reduced fat and diet soda is the worst." "Nope. Calories make you fat" "That's not even true. The thing that makes you fat is eating more calories than you expend." "It's not fat nor sugar but excessive calorie intake" "Yes!!!!! Been on a no sugar diet for 2 years and a half. Eating all healthy fats, only healthy carbs, and adequate moderate protein. Lost 55 lbs and kept them off this whole time. Y’all been lied to if you think “fat free” will make you skinny. And y’all falling for it too." "Sugar doesn't necessarily get you fat either, overeating does. Eating mostly energy source (fat and carbs) combined with low protein, and micronutrients makes you fat. People get fat because their body craves nutrition and they just keep cramming in junk food." "So close, but it's calories that matter." "calories effect weight, macros effect body composition (e.g. muscle to fat ratio)" "This is true. I was addicted to drinking soda. But early this year, in January to be precise, I started a no-soda-challenge. I still maintained my normal diet(intake consumption included), but completely stopped drinking soda(including ice cream). And I noticed my bulging stomach is getting flatter. I'm actually losing weight!" "What makes you fat is an excessive caloric income, if it is from sugar fat or proteins is not so relevant" "err, the thing that makes you fat is positive energy. you can get fat on protein alone." "Well, the thing that makes you fat is actually not knowing your own limits. What sugar and fat do to the body is known. And both are to some degree also healthy. But key word "to some degree". Technically there's no real "unhealthy" food or a specific food that makes you fat. It's all about the amount of what you of each. But humans like black/white-thinking. The "is" or "is not". But many people don't like being actually responsible for their own lifestyle. Truth be said, you don't need to be top-notch fit and eater super "healthy" to be healthy. Just some awareness about what you eat and a decent level of self control and you will live a healthy normal life, without having to go to the gym for 3 hours a day and you can eat anything. Just keep an eye on the amount." "That is actually wrong. It's the fact that sugar as well as fat are calorically dense without offering much in terms of nutrition. Getting fat is as simple as calories in and calories out." "@TheReaverOfDarkness actually, the jury is still out on whether artificial sweeteners have negative health consequences. I've seen preliminary data from mouse studies..." "@TheReaverOfDarkness you entering flat earth territory. BTW refined sugar is / can be measured in calories and as can be lettuce." "@TheReaverOfDarkness 🤣🤣🤣" "@TheReaverOfDarkness man you are just ignorant af. Please stop spreading wrong information and try to learn how it works" - - - - - (This comment was on Key and Peele's Froyo video.)
Adam is credible. I am a very slim teenager. Wanna know the secret? I rarely eat sugar in my life. I eat mostly salty foods which is not good but at least i aint fat. I once tried eating fatty foods like junk food every day for a week just to try make me fatter. Didnt work at all... i hate eating sugar tho.
Yeah, sugar is indeed the cause of numerous health problems. We now all know that. The problem is... We all really love sugar, and knowing all that doesn't help us cut it down. You want to cut sugar down? No more milk. No more bread. No more pasta. No more rice. I'm not kidding.
While sugar causes over-weight, it doesn’t become fat in human body like it does in mice and pigs; instead body uses sugar and stores all fat if food has lots of sugar, and human bodies are good at gaining energy from sugar.
Both excessive fat and carbs can make you fat. If you eat more than you need, the extra fuel can be stored in your body as either adipose tissue or glycogen. Also, there are "bad" fats (e.g. saturated, trans...) and "bad" carbs (e.g. added sugars) to try to avoid, not just because they make you fat, but mainly because they can have other negative effects on your health. Sugar is more addictive than fat and probably the major culprit for heart disease, also because of the type of diet and lifestyle many Americans have (sodas, candies, take out, processed food in general + sedentary lifestyle). This doesn't mean we can stuff our face with high-fat products, because they can be implicated in the rise of cardiovascular diseases, too. If you need to lose weight, it is still a valuable option to choose low fat versions of food, as well as avoiding foods with high sugar content, while reducing the total caloric intake and increasing exercise. Also, to be healthy, always check the ingredients and choose food that is not processed and contains "good" carbs and "good" fats.
I've lost weight since quitting sugar a couple of years ago, despite the fact that I still eat a lot of carbs and cheese and don't exercise enough. Sugar does make a difference, and it is really, really addictive. There are enough decent sugar substitutes now that it's just not worth eating real sugar anymore. (Side note - if you're looking for a sugar substitute, try and avoid maltitol. It has many of the same effects on the body as sugar.)
don't look at grams of fat, look at calories. it doesn't matter if it comes from fat, carbs(sugars), or protein. if you eat more calories than you burn, you're gaining weight.
It's shocking how little you eat when you add "Normal" amounts of fat back to your diet. Half and half cream with my coffee at breakfast, and Im full with 1 egg scrambled with some spinach. But yeah, take away the fat and i'm eating a huge breakfast and hungry by 10AM.
Easier way to lose weight : Eat a bunch of fiber. Replace some foods with vegetables, trust me, it'll help you feel full. Go run, or do any aerobic excercise. Keep protein in your diet, so eat some chicken. Pork and beef can be eaten, but not in bulk, as beef is shown to get stuck in your teeth more than chicken does, and pork is probably riddled with more disease than beef and chicken. Get some motivation. Now, go out there, and continue this for about 2 months, or longer. You'll see change.
