This was back in 2015......and he has just become better.

He didn't start beat boxing until his brother started the group Home Free. He perfected it in college. All of the Home Free members have a background in music.

It’s absolutely, 100% real! He is simply the very best in the world at what he does. When you see the worlds best at things it often looks impossible. We Home Fries jokingly say Adam Rupp isn’t human, because no human could do what he does. Yet, there he stands, doing it. I love to watch him do the harmonica!🐝🤗❤️

Love Adam Rupp & his insane talent. He is the best out there in my opinion. He simulates the sounds of a drum perfectly. Many drummers have commented on how good he is. He sounds so realistic. His breath control must be crazy. I heard he makes the sounds both while inhaling & exhaling. This was a few years ago & hard to believe but he is even better now. Adam is the glue that holds Home Free together. He is their secret weapon which other a cappella groups can't match. Adam does a 10-15 min. solo at every concert that Home Free does.

He is simply the best ... Home Free's secret weapon !

Adam is other worldly talented.

I have heard in interviews that he didn't grow up wanting to do this, like you thought. As he and his brother were starting up this group, his brother came to him and said "I think we need a beatboxer, and it will have to be one of us. I think it should be you." So he started to learn and look where it has taken him. You never know where life will take you if you accept the unexpected challenges that come along.

Disbelief is common when people first see this and other videos of Adam's talent. Just as each one the members inf HF are world class vocalists, Adam is equally talented when it comes to vocal percussion. He has mastered it. Furthermore, Adam really is the glue, the core that keeps HF as a band together. Without him, HF would be a very talented barbershop quartet. But when Adam lays down the rhythm they are the best of the best at what they do.

This is just a demonstration--and proof--that Adam Rupp can do all the sounds Home Free uses in their music. He is so accurate that people tend to be skeptical so he has to prove himself over--and over--and over--and over...again. He may be the best in the world right now.

I consider Adam more of a vocal percussionist....not just a beat boxer...he can do beatboxing obviously, but most drummer like Adam because he replicates what a real professional drummer would do...and so real drummers can play along where beatboxer do things that a real drummer can't. He and Chris Rupp along with a third member founded Home Free and Chris talked Adam into doing the beat boxing...they were in college at the time. He is a perfectionist as you can tell and his ability to replicate percussion sounds has earned him the nickname "Freak of Nature"

I love this. Adam is amazing. Home Free is a cappella which means there are no instruments involved and so the beatboxer lays down the background music and sometimes the other singers do beatboxing as well to make a great sound. Adam was a music major in college. He plays trumpet and taught himself drums so he could accurately do the hand motions a drummer would use. What’s hard to understand for me is how he breathes. He inhales and exhales somehow through all that. Home Free does call him the “spitter”. Hahaha. I hope you can believe now. There are many other videos of his beatboxing and today he uses a looper to record his sounds then overlays them. You can watch those if that would help. I like this older one because it’s so clear and the drums are emphasized.

Adam, or Freak Of Nature as his band mates call him, has a college degree in Trumpet Performance. That has certainly played a big part in his Beatboxing abilities like breath control, mouth and lip positions, arranging his Beatboxing, and the throat movements, and all the other stuff he is able to do. He started with Video tapes on Beatboxing basics and went on to win Beatboxing competitions. What a fun dad he would be! Imagine him at a kids birthday party!!

I always think, how is it possible? Can you imagine the breath control? His degree is in trumpet, so he can make all sorts of instrument sounds with his lip control.

Probably nearly every single video of our favorite guy's Home Free that you've heard thus far has had beatboxing in it unless you have actually seen an instrument. A very few of their complete repertoire of nearly200 video's have instruments especially when it is a collaboration with other's, such as Texas Hill. The Home Free member's can play multiple instruments however they are featured primarily on the personal channels of Austin Brown, Tim Foust and Adam Chance. Don't be upset, the more you learn about them and see more of them your love will grow even more! There are lots of live concert video's I think y'all will enjoy! I think this was their first drum solo video, from early 2015. The latest I've seen, the New Version is late 2021, called Adam Rupp Beatbox/Drum Solo. Both are great, but he's really improved the last 6 years.

I have seen him live and he has a very large repertoire beyond what you are listening to here. He simply is amazing beyond belief at times, but it is all very real and exquisite for sure.

And he would do this every night they had a live performance. He still does. Now he figured out how to use a live looper, creating sounds and rhythms live in front of the audience then blending it along with his singing voice into a techno sounding song. And when the performance ends, he erases it all to start over again the next time. And don't worry, I am still shocked when I see him doing what he does, no matter how many times I have seen the video.

We all were shocked 😲 when we saw this and laughed like you guys too! I have great respect for Adam's talent and how much he brings to Home Free. He holds them all together ❤

Like you, I also would say that I'm not always crazy about beatboxing. However, it adds so much to the acapella groups and I have to acknowledge his crazy amazing talent. If you close your eyes, it sounds like drums. One of the very best, in my opinion. In live concerts, he is one of three members of Home Free that can go so low that it shakes every seat in the venue, your chair literally vibrates below you. The other two are Adam Chance and, of course, Tim Foust. And, yes, they all have wonderful senses of humor.

Oh my goodness, I think Adam broke you! Now you can see why Home Free sounds like there are instruments, but, nope. It's Mr. Adam Rupp. He has spent 20 years perfecting his skills and he is world class. Now when you listen to their songs, you'll recognize the skill involved. This sounds strange to you because it's unfamiliar. But when you put it into the context of their music it makes more sense. He truly is an exceptionally skilled beat boxer/vocal percussionist. This isn't like one of Home Frees' songs, it's a showcase performance to highlight Adam's various skills. He does a solo like this when they do live shows.

What amazes drummers who reacted to Adam's drum solo is that he really does sound like the instrument. They're surprised when he accurately 'plays' the drum, including the foot stuff. They concluded that he's a real drummer and not mimicking as one.

Don't forget, he can also make harmonica sounds with his mouth like he did in Man of Constant Sorrow. Adam Rupp is amazing and a big part of what makes Home Free so special. Adam Rupp and his brother Chris (in the cowboy hat) formed the band in 2000. Adam has been beatboxing ever since and just gets better and better! I think he must have swallowed a sound effects record as a child (LOL)!

Everyone in Home Free can do some forms of beatboxing.

He goes the whole show, even when the others take a break, he does his beatbox solo, then they come back out and he continues beatboxing and the show is around 1 1/2 to 2 hours long. I don't think it hurts him, but I'm sure it's a workout and he does always have a bottle of water around to take a sip of often. The other guys call him spitter because beatboxing causes some spit to happen. Lol! He always tries to stand on the outer edges of the group or behind them when beatboxing.

Your reactions matched many of us, the first time we saw Adam showcase his talent. This clip was a few years ago, and when I saw them live, just before the global 'event', his solo was even better. Their latest song 'Ain't Going Down Til the Sun Comes Up' showcases Adam's vocal 'harmonica' skills.. If you want to 'try something different', I'll recommend Australian guitarist Tommy Emmanuel, who is recognised as one of the world's best. People tend to have the same kind of 'what did I just see' reaction, and I think you might enjoy him. I think "beatboxing" is not the best way to describe what Adam does. A better description would be "vocal percussion." He didn't really start doing this until he and Chris (his brother) started Home Free in 2000.
