I'm an artist, not really a maker, but I admire the quality of the materials this apron is made of. I would buy one to paint in because the pockets on the chest would be functional for holding brushes and further down the bib the individual hand pockets could hold in use tubes of paint. Also, I love that you designed it to bear witness to it's use. I have a collection of pallettes that I no longer use on the regular, but I can't bear to part with them because they are witness of my process and tell a story all their own. I am as attached to them, as I am atached to my people. As soon as I can afford one of these aprons, I will be buying one. Also, I was born in Cali, so there's that connection too.

The wife just bought one for me for my birthday and I couldn't be happier with it! I'm 5'7" and ordered the medium; after very quick adjustments to the strap it fits like it was custom-made for me. Brilliant design, extremely durable and well-made, and it helps to support my favorite channel. Bravo, Adam! Bravo!

The split leg feature is very useful for ceramicists who throw pots. I remember having to improvise an apron out of an old pair of jeans that I basically cut the back off and added a bib and straps tied through the belt loops because it was virtually impossible to find a ready made apron with split legs in 2005. Don't do ceramics any more but I am very much attached to my old apron from the big box craft store I worked at who decided cross back strapped aprons were too costly and switched to neck loops. Wished I'd grabbed a few more.

Thank you!! I loved it, and currently use a general leather apron that saved me on a table saw kick-back. It dented the leather, and bruised me, but I was fine. I'm currently unemployed due to Covid (although I maintain my subscription), but when I get a job this will be on my docket of things to get. Thank you for all you do for the community.

I wore a split leg apron for over a decade. I can offer one bit of advice. Move the clips for securing the leg flaps to the outside of the flaps. This will keep the clips from snagging on each other as you move. The same reason spur buckles are to the outside of the foot.

I am so glad you guys add a left handed hammer loop being a lefty and always having to adapt to a right hand work can be difficult and sometimes painful (I am looking at you right hand scissors) I will be getting one ASAP

I'm planning to add "wings" to the sides of the chest level of mine when it arrives, because I am both female AND wider than Adam is, so there is more frontage to get dirty/get hit with fragments from doing things. If you look at the America's Test Kitchen footage, the women have aprons that are different than the men; this is no doubt why.

In addition to being a bit of a maker and my own mechanic, I am also a car detailer. In my detailing I always need to be carrying brushes, towels, spray bottles, flashlights, small wooden skewers, cotton swabs, etc. Inevitably, on just about every detail I do, I set down a brush, forget where it is, and spend 15 minutes looking for it. Ever since seeing Adam make this apron, I've thought "Man, that would be nice to keep track of all my detailing tools while I'm working on a car..." and lo! Its available! I hit that preorder so fast. haha. I can't wait to get it!

I remember the vid where you made that apron, and I was very impressed with the design. All of the changes between your original prototype and the new prototype are predictable - canvas for the hammer loops, nylon webbing for the main and leg straps, quick-release buckles on the legs instead of snap loops, plastic D-rings for the main straps instead of punching through the canvas, and leaving out the small leather patches where the straps connect on the chest. All simple, and none making any difference in the longevity or effectiveness of the product, but all saving a lot of time and energy in manufacturing. All in all, it's a very well done shift from a one-off personal product to a production product. Features I'd suggest adding in future versions: * metal strip for a tape measure to clip on (somewhere) * loops across the chest pocket, like the hammer loops, to hold safety glasses * 2-inch hook and loop (the fuzzy side) fields above and below the chest pocket; for patches, name tapes, company logos, etc. * (4x) 1-inch D-rings, plastic or metal would work, for misc stuff like key rings and retractable ID reels; two locations: ---->along the back edge, above the hammer loops ---->on the chest where the main straps connect

I have a similar apron and one of my favorite features is a strong magnet on the chest. I stick drill bits and screws to myself for quick access. Potential upgrade?

Maybe a velcro patch panel, where one can stick anything. For instance in your case, you stick a velcro magnet there

I have one of those magnets you can wear on your wrist that has been really handy, you could wrap it around one of the straps to have it on your chest. I also realize I'm old because of how excited I got over an apron.

Plier Racks for drawers. And power tool charge stations/rack. (PVC is cool too.) 2 really good ideas for really cheap really reall useful tool tips. Ones that you yourself can really appreciate.

If I wasn’t almost finished with the one I am making for myself, I would order one. But I do not need the split skirt as I work with very small pieces and am always pleased when the “skirt” catches what I drop, ( I had a stroke a few years ago and have a hard time hanging on to small parts,) and not having to search the floor for it. Thank you for all of your tips, tricks and ideas! Cyn

I ordered the similar shop apron that you suggested in the odb video comments of the shop apron build. and although it works well and has a similar design it was missing some key features that also think are important. So of course I have ordered this one as well from your links below. Super psyched to get it and start using it! Gives me great joy too. Knowing that you designed it and use it also.

In regards to a neck loop on aprons, I totally agree. When I worked at the Big Box Hardware Store that wears orange aprons; the first thing I’d do when putting a new apron into service was to cut the loop and the ties off and replace them with suspenders. Total game changer,

Super late to the party here, but I just wanted to thank you for making this. Being based in the UK though I was a little uneasy about shipping costs and the sustainability of shipping something from so far away. Li and behold, pdf plans for $5? Yes please! I’m already planning a few minor modifications and am looking for local sources of the materials I’ll need. I love that you have the plans so affordable and that this is left handed friendly. The only modification I’m thinking to make in that regard is to flip the 2 hammer loops so that the left one is the lower, but I’ll probably wait until I make the apron to make the final decision.

LOVE this! For years I've ruined jeans and other pieces of clothing with paint, wood glue, etc. due to my very infrequent making schedule and hatred of uncomfortable apron. This will be at the top of my wishlist for my birthday this coming June.

I have the Savage Industries tape measure as part of my personal EDC. It's very high quality and has already absorbed a lot of abuse from me. Also, the ordering process was fantastic. They didn't have the tape measures in stock when I decided to order one so I sent an e-mail, not only did I get a prompt reply they also e-mailed me when the items were back in stock, and again at each step of the process until I got the tape measure. I covet this apron.

Hope this isn't a limited thing cause I'd love to get one in the future. I appreciate something that ages well. I was talking with a roommate as she was throwing out some things that I love objects that are nearly new and fresh, and that are really old with miles, patina, and stories. Never had the need for a shop apron, but I worked in kitchens for a decade and can echo the sentiment of easy bathroom breaks and the weird pleasure of functionality and comfort. Also reminds me of making an apron for my mothers birthday when I was like 9. I basically haphazardly cut fabric behind her back and asked if she could sew some stitches while she was using the sewing machine for something else.

I sent my wife the link to this saying I thought it would be cool to have one with Adams signature. She said that it was too expensive for a Christmas gift and that she wasn't sure how much I would wear it. OH THE TRICKERY!!! She ordered it right away. I have not had the opportunity to wear it as much as I would like, but this is an heirloom item that I plan to pass down to my son one day and I have a whole lot of projects planned before I give it to him! My wife asked my thoughts on having the signed version and that it may make me not want to actually use it. I told her that Adam would have it no other way and that if you ever could not see the signature because of it's use it would be a testament to what he would want! (I plan to sew a flap of leather over the signature to protect it at least a little bit)

I love the large amount of pockets. I'm a person that won't wear a pair of pants if the pockets aren't deep enough. I always need pocket space as I easily forget where I set things if I don't keep them close, especially if it's a small object.

I love the design! Split-legs are not just something a male maker can prefer, I modified my own apron after I saw Adams one day build so I also now have a split-leg design, which I absolutely love because one of the worst things for me is the fact that I can't move freely with the apron on. There is one (two actually) disadvantage(s) to wearing an apron as a female maker which is boobs.. the top pocket curves around them, so storing things there is really annoying 😅🤣 My apron came with a loop, which I at first didn't think was something i wanted, but being able to hang my apron using that loop, os one of my favorite features on it now 🤩 i don't like hanging my apron using the shoulder straps, especially when it's full of tools.

I got one for the wife in November 25th for her birthday which is December the 15th, haven't heard anything, but I'm really excited i know its going to blow her mind. Plus she got extra gifts that I had to buy on the fly, she doesn't know I got her the apron. Ill be sure to send a pic of her wearing it at her shop when we get it (hopefully soon)

I actually modified a pair of old overalls to make my own split leg apron inspired by that one day build. I love it! It’s a good option for anybody on my kind of budget.
