Adam Savage's One Day Builds: Hellboy Samaritan Replica Finale!

The past year in lockdown has yielded so many new projects for Adam and the Tested team, but the Hellboy Samaritan prop replica is the one that encapsulates all of Adam's new machining learnings and adventures. That build is finally done, and Adam lays out all its pieces for a final assembly and weathering pass to show off its authentic black oxide finish. The prop exceeded all of Adam's expectations when he embarked on it, and has sparked new ideas for more replica builds from the Hellboy universe. @@TheMHohSoma armorer here, there's a lot of reasons. 1- they're easier to make. as Adam said, we hand fit a lot of things. you can make a custom flathead in minutes with a thread die and file. a hex, torx, or other socket head takes broach cutters. 2- they're easier to time. nothing is more satisfying then having all the heads face the same way. seriously. it's so nice. 3- we don't like change.

You can definitely /actually/ do that. One really cool thing I've seen people do is 3d painting. In it, you spread a thin layer of resin, and let it set. Then you paint a layer of your image. Then resin, then more painting. By the time you're done, the painting is stacked and has a neat 3d appearance, and all you did was spread resin and paint.

@川新-k4i
@川新-k4i 3 года назад
Well I guess the trick with weathering is that there are no unwanted marks; that would make the weathering non-random, and thus, usually less convincing. We are just too good at spotting a plan in something. Sure, one might want to make sure not to structurally damage the piece, but how would you do such damage on a fully metal/hardwood piece. Relax, and weather 😊

One passing suggestion I have for you, Adam, is to mark the specialized screws in some way internally with their sockets. For instance, maybe some paint or coloring on the bottom matching the inside of the screw socket? Something to make sure you don't need to spend so much time searching for the screw that goes "right here" but can do it at a glance. Last thought on all of this: This is a gun-shaped object. I respect this and remind myself these words so often because of how masterful it has turned out, it really does feel like a real gun. Unfortunately for me, and perhaps others, this has enhanced my thirst for seeing the real thing actually fire...something I imagine would require a mechanical holder due to the kickback, but hey--I would love to see it never the less. I guess this will be the next fantastical dream to wonder about until some madman fabricator opts to do it in another 17-years. lol Thank you, Adam, and here's looking forward to the next multi-year One Day Build. Parkerization can take several forms and can be sorted into two broad types: zinc and manganese processes. "Parkerization" is just a trade name for a phosphate finish. I have rifles that have been parked, and on some of them, it is olive green. One in paricular is olive green now but originally was flat gray when I got it, freshly re-finished. On others, it is black and slick, so much so you'd swear it was blued.

The last three minutes where Adam almost cries multiple times is the best part of this entire build.

Watching Adam build while I do the same is like watching Bob Ross paint while you paint. At least to me.

i hope some you-tube mod with no knowledge of HellBoy doesn't come across this and bans it for " manufacturing firearms". This is an absolutely epic build. Kudos Adam!

This was such a great series of videos. Thank you for sharing the process…among everything you’ve build I love this, and the metal Ironman build the most….but that was a different show, so Hellboy wins!

Excellent job. Nicely done. In real world applications, taking in consideration with the size and weight of those bullets, I believe the cartridge case would have to be about twice as long , so as to hold enough powder to give those bullets some half way decent performance numbers. Example: .450 Bushmaster .458 S.O.C.O.M.

Hello Adam, cowboying the prop, that is slamming shut and spinning the cylinder like you did really damages the locking pin of the prop. Please consider treating the device with care to show proper revolver treatment, have being said this, you made it, its yours, don't have to treat it as it was a 1970s S&W but i got afraid of the thing when you did the spinning move on the cylinder. Thank you for sharing!
