"12th Street Rag" Euday L. Bowman (1897) Adam Swanson performs at the Iron Rail B&B. This is the Central Pennsylvania Ragtime Festival. If you like Adam's playing, here is his youtube channel: / adamgswanson .
This brought tears to my eyes...This was my grandfather’s favorite song to play. I still have his original sheet music that survived a fire. I have it framed by our piano. Wish I could share a pic of it.
Would you like to share it through email or something?) I’m a pianist and I would be interested to see original notes of the rag, if you don’t mind of course
It really just sounds like some random song from the mid 1900s Edit: It actually is a song from the mid 1900s. And I just realized that the joke wasnt that youd recognize it, its that youd recognize it from the wrong thing.
Swanson never fails to impress with his virtuoso style of playing. Have watched him since he first came on to the Rag Time scene and grown over the years. The young boy standing next to Adam is in absolute awe of his playing. For a fun piece listen to Terry Waldo murdering 12st Rag. very funny and highly entertaining
SteamLocoScrapper I have never heard Tom Brier play 12th street rag. And even if he could, he probably can’t anymore, due to brain damage from a car crash leading to the impairment of his motor skills. Because of this, Tom is no longer able to play piano on the same level as he used to before.
Where is this kid today??? He must be in his 20s--Adam, if you're out there, PLEASE still be playing. What an amazing talent. You made my day! (From a very old woman who loves ragtime but could never play.)
Fantastic rag playing by Adam Swanson. Watch that left hand drive this great old song. Wonderful antique upright grand piano. Built during the golden age of American piano making. Bravo.
Shades of Winifred Atwell and also my talented aunt who used to play piano in the 1940's and 50's in the Merry Macs band with her brothers at district old-time dances. She could not only sight read but play a lot of tunes like this after hearing them once or twice. Such lovely nostalgia to hear this rag played so well.
Oh my wow! Such precision and speed. He has talented hands for the piano. It's so impressive to me to see his hands all over the keys like that moving so expressively. I've never seen that in real life before.
You play so much like my grandmother. I always admired how she could seem to slap her hands on the keys and this amazing tune would fill the room. Thank you
Yowzers !! I'm loving it !! Could listen to this terrifically talented young man play all day long....or all night long too, for that matter ! THANX for sharing with us !! :-)
I'm currently learning this and it's taken me an hour to learn the opening chords 😑 and I've been playing piano since I was 4. how amazing is this guy!!!!! Holy shit
@@Pmorris2222 hahaha no! I completely forgot about this. But funnily enough, in two days I'm starting classes with a ragtime teacher. This should definitely be the first song we work on! My classical ass has been trying to self-learn jazz and I still suck so hard lmao.
Absolutely wonderful, Adam. I had a neighbor who played stride piano like this and Adam's performance brought back memories. My neighbor couldn't read a lick of music but he learned by watching piano rolls.
My dad's signature song. Many a shoot out in the living room as a child; musical meth, turns any kid into a stratospheric poster child for ADHD. Still does it to me and I'm 64.
I absolutely LOVED! this arrangement! Tempo changes were a little unorthodox, but it added a flavour that I think Euday L. Bowman would've gotten a kick out of. :-)
Looks and sound just like my circa 1923 Mercer player piano. Can't make out the logo here to see if it is indeed the same manufacturer. Looks like it could be the same logo.
HA! I watched this video this afternoon and commented "Where is this kid today?" THEN I saw your other videos! Not only are you still playing 😂 you are famous! And rightly so!
There's an old piano song that nobody remembers unless they were into rock music in the 1970s, with one of the most beautiful melodies I've ever heard: 'Don't Cry My Lady Love' by Quicksilver Messenger Service. I'd really love to hear this young man play it; I'd bet he'd take it to the heavens!
