I had the pleasure of seeing him when I was 11 years old on Broadway with my cousin the same age. It was one of the best shows I have ever seen. He was hysterical and to this day, I am 71, I will never forget it.
My grandmother met him when she was a little girl in the 1930s. My great-grandparents were immigrants from Denmark. He was performing at a Danish club in the L.A. area.
He did many of the same bits in every performance, refining each one over his long career. They knew what was coming as soon as he brought up a Mozart Opera.
@@annwrenn7925 He was a one of a kind, I don't think we'll ever have another quite like him. Bill Bailey is a modern comedian who does similar kinds of stuff but not as family friendly.
I had the privilege of meeting him during the 90s, in the US. I was working at the theatre he was headlining. Funny beyond belief, he had them crying, mostly young university students, and they cheered him for three encores. Then we, the crew, had pizza and he sat and told us jokes for another hour. What a man.
He was on my daughter's bucket list. She wanted to attend his show more than any other entertainer. He was to play in a town nearby, and she was thrilled! However, she was killed in an accident a couple of weeks before he came to town. I was watching this for her. He wouldn't have disappointed her. RIP to both of them.
He used his quick wit and intelligence to make us laugh. No profanity. He stated obvious things, but in a funny way. I love seeing these video clips. Musically, he was an absolute genius.
How I wish we had such talented, geniuses, entertainment today, instead of the street, ghetto, so called entertainers. Absolute trash, full of profanity, vulgar suggestive movements and language, how far have we fallen. Thanks to the primitives, you know who I am talking too.
It was at that moment that I remembered how brilliant he was when I was a child. I’m so glad to see him again and that new generations can observe this level of elegant comedy.
Such gifted comic and brilliant pianist. No vulgarity, no offensive language, no attacking anyone. Superb mimicry of piano styles and operatic performance without being insulting. Well never see the likes of him in our every coarsening world.
Victor Borge certainly found a niche for himself that literally NO ONE else could fill! BTW, this is the first time I’ve heard him sing! Brilliance all the way around!
An extraordinary talented man. Many celebrities are known for a particular genre, but hey what genre does one pin to this guy? Besides he really makes me laugh.
Liam Doyle And so it is of all who bring happiness to our hearts with their wonderful talents ! They are Special People whom The Gods have sent to entertain us poor souls to make our lives filled with sunshine ! What a wonderful Gift of ❤️ from GOD (and all the Gods what ever is their name to you ,Blessing to All )❤️
HERE is The TRUE Savior YaH The Heavenly FATHER HIMSELF was Who they Crucified/Pierced for our sins and “HERE IS THE PROOF” From the Ancient Semitic: "Yad He Vav He" is what Moshe (Moses) wrote, when Moses asked YaH His Name (Exodus 3) Ancient Semitic Direct Translation Yad - "Behold The Hand" He - "Behold the Breath" Vav - "Behold The NAIL"
It never gets old. I've seen these sketches many times but I laugh as if it's the first time I see them. RIP Mr Borge and thank you for making the world a little more bearable
dang khoa i’m going to explain the shop to you but I need you to unclear you mind of other things. The reason why it’s funny it’s because well explaining that the two people are hidden behind the trees he says that the chorus starts playing, he says that nobody knows why signifying that and not the musicians not the composer not even the actors, this is because Mozart was the only one that knew why and that very moment the chorus was playing but for the people remaking the scene, they were just doing what was on the script. So when he says that Mozart is the only one that knows what was going on but he’s dead it’s just a matter of fact joke and there is no punchline, it’s just unexpected
@@edh8900 I've always thought that it was because being only a 'bust' (a small statuette of a person's head and shoulders) he was unable to consummate the marriage leaving Mrs Mozart unsatisfied as he had no genitals 😁
He came to my rural northern California high school in 1957 as a part of our National Assemblies programs. He was wonderfully. He did a bit performing as a player piano, and you could even hear the paper roll flapping at the end of the performance. He was a comedic genius, and a world-class concert pianist at the same time --- and humble to a fault.
This is talent unparalleled today. No dirty language, not too fast, not boringly slow. Every joke light, fluffy like a thought that had just occured, but spot on. Courios eyes like those of a child, but with a twinkle that says "Funny, eh? Got'cha there!". We don't even have to mention his musical talent. He didn't even WANT to be funny. He just found out that he was and he went out there to let us enjoy this with him.
The way he said things that were intended to be funny , were then followed by those teasing facial expressions of his which were the final touch that would bring you to TEARS OF LAUGHTER and rolling on the floor😂🤣🤣, just like RED SKELTON used to do too😅❗️ The biggest difference I believe, was that TOTALLY STRAIGHT FACE he was able to hold through it all, While Red would get so tickled 😂 , he would crack-up along with the audience or his other stage mate...
@@ginaveda1782 He was a musical & a comedic genius. Victor was truly a “one of a kind” entertainer. Wish they would come up with a TV Show replaying the old irreplaceable performances. We were so lucky to have gotten the opportunity to see the “Greats” in our own living rooms. 👍👏🤗😂🤣🤚🥰
+mike travis - Having known a few beloved public figures and celebrities I can only say that what the public sees on the stage does not reflect the private life very often. Borge was a brilliant performer. A music and comedic genius. He enriched our lives in a wonderful way. We ought leave it at that.
There was no one like Victor then, and there's been no one since. An amazing musician with brilliant comic timing. He's sadly missed. R.I.P. Victor xxx
He's even better than Les Dawson, who could play all the right notes but not always in the right order. I like to think they are playing duets together now. :-)
My late Mom, an accomplished piano player couldnt stand watching Victor. "He plays so well but never finishes anything". I on the other hand enjoy his musical comedy.
Comes on the stage.. Takes a bow.. Puffs out the smoke.. 💭 "I'm a little short of breath.. Because it has been a long day.. And I've been breathing all the time" One of *THE BEST* comedic lines of all time. 😅
I was just trying to find that one clip of him flipping the music the right way up but ended up starting a binge. He was SO funny. When he started singing I woke up everyone in my house laughing in the middle of the night
I was blessed to attend 2 of his programs. If not laffing profusely, I was grinning from ear to ear until it hurt. His talent was unending....sadly so very rare now.
I was lucky enough to see him perform in Caerphilly in the 70's, he came on the stage at 9.00pm and left at 4.30am, they served us breakfast. He simply said he was enjoying himself, I've never laughed so much for so long in my life. He remains the King of comedy for me, RIP Victor.
Truly one of the the Greatest Danish Composer. He is truly a National Treasure, I actually met him. I have been told. My Gran Dad was actually friends with him so he had been to some of my families Birthdays and so on. I'm really sad that I can't remember it, But I was barely 1 Year old. But my Grandad told amazing stories about him. Truly a National Hero
As a musician, I'm rolling on the floor laughing at this. Mr. Borge was such a true talent and a fine musician. Absolutely hilarious...thank you RU-vid!
Love this guy! The singing was priceless! And that plot twist! "Her father is not happy. Now it's her turn" *commences saprano singing* "fwafwafwafwafwafwa" *skips the whole story* " - and then she dies by stabbing herself between the two trees". XD
"They're dressed in a kind of cheap underwear - if the audience can't see properly there's no point in spending money on expensive costumes, that's the way the management of this theatre feels about it and that's the way it's gonna be."
This performance is perfected even more once you realize that the curtain came down with such force it knocked the mic off its stand at 10:02. Splendid.
I was lucky enough to see him perform in Boston shortly before he passed away. It was one of the best "concerts" I ever attended. He truly was one of a kind.
I once met him in a club I was working in. He was the funniest man I ever knew. He sat there telling me the funniest jokes whilst I was trying to work. I was in so much pain from laughing I had to leave and come back later when he was gone.
My dad and I memorized his sketches, and to this very day we can still "mouth" them word for word! Brilliant dry sarcastic sense of humour!!!!! The absolute best.
As a musician you have absolutely no.idea how talented and fantastic a musician you have to be to pull this off . He might have been funny but fully accomplished musician is an understatement .
Jesus loves you. I Jesus have sent mine angel to testify unto you these things in the churches. I am the root and the offspring of David, and the bright and morning star. Revelation 22:16 ✝🌅 For I delivered unto you first of all that which I also received, how that Christ died for our sins according to the scriptures; And that he was buried, and that he rose again the third day according to the scriptures: 1 Corinthians 15:3-4 ✝🌅 To him give all the prophets witness, that through his name whosoever believeth in him shall receive remission of sins. Acts 10:43 ✝🌅
True story. My brother George Groot was a piano tuner and he tuned the Grand piano for Victor Borge in the 1940`s in the Civic Auditorium in Grand Rapids,Michigan and about 6 years later he came again to give a concert and after him meeting hundreds of people all over the world my brother was touching up the piano before the concert and Victor walked in and said Well, hello George!
When I was a little girl and Victor would be on one of the 3 stations on our TV we laughed and enjoyed his amazing talents. Wonderful man and time. God bless.
I am so sad that it took me 30 years to find out about this wonderful man. This was comedic perfection! Not a missed line, not a wasted word! Even the "hiden" joke, which I think he may very well have improvised!
This is pure genius! So talented in music but not snobbish as many are. Great sense of humor and English was not his first language! The World misses his talent. We don't have anything similar for quality anymore.
No matter how many times you watch this, it NEVER looses ANY of its original "flavour," simply because Victor was a Master of Comedy, in addition to being a brilliant, talented pianist who could play anything. There was NO ONE to compare with Victor when he was alive, and there's undoubtedly been NO ONE since ! R.I.P. Victor - we miss you 🤗 xxx
I would suggest Ken Dodd was as good a comedian and a fair singer. But Doddy holds a special place in my heart. Both incredible comedians and modern comedians could learn a lot from them.
Thank God for this one- of-a-kind musical& comic genius. Never knew this kind of man existed on this planet before. Not until now... thanks RU-vid for bringing Victor Borge to us!
I’m almost 65 and remember him as a child. Had our family laughing every time we saw him. He does a skit where he gives sounds to all punctuation of a story. Simply hilarious
I saw him in person 3 times. He was amazing. None stop laughter .We left the venue with our sides aching from laughing each time. What a joy his shows were, he was a great Comedian but He was really a marvellous Musician ! Wish I could see him again.
I watched him many times on tv growing up in the UK … I moved to canada and my mum and dad had come over for a visit and I took them to Ontario Place in Toronto and totally unexpected discovered he was performing … sitting on the grass not many feet away from him was absolutely wonderful
He was too nervous to play serious recitals, that's why he can't be a serious concert pianist. He find comedic pianist more comfortable, it suits him better But he still practise many hours a day, which gives him great technique and sound touch
Growing up my father was a great fan of Victor Borge. I was living with my wife in Connecticut and invited my father and his girlfriend up from NYC. They were both in there late 60's. We purchased tickets, killing our budjet, for my fathers birthday to see Victor's performance at the then New Fairfield Playhouse. Halfway thru the performance they were both asleep snoring. We were mortified and worried he would see them and make them part of his show. In retrospect I wish he had!
I remember listening to him on Dad's record player. 'Caught in the act,' was the name of the album. Even today he still one of my favourite comedy acts and puts a smile on my face.
I had forgotten about Victor....brings back memories of my Grandfather laughing out loud (which almost never happened) while watching this guy. I was young but I knew there was magic in this man's show.
Victor Borge was also hilariously funny when interviewed. I've seen video clips of him on the Tonight Show way back when Jack Paar was host and he had the audience absolutely roaring with laughter.
Victor was part of a world of such talented and polished performers and artists who had amazing discipline, knowledge and skill. They made it all look so effortless. My philosophy teacher said "a genius makes the complicated and difficult look simple ."
Saw Victor Borge in Orange Texas in the early 80’s I laughed and laughed. It was one of the best nights of my life .. at least we can still enjoy him through RU-vid!
" I'm now going to play some music by a famous composer. Mozart. He was Danish. Hans Christian Mozart" My grandmother first showed me one of his vhs's in the early 90s. And I have watched almost every video with him in it. Unfortunately I never got to see him live. I wish I had
What a joy!!! Extends over borders, wars, depression, fright…. So beautiful a performer and lover of people to want to show versatility and power of music.
How does he get away with it? His enthusiasm for comedy, mixed with musical aplomb is so wonderful to watch. My sides ache with laughter & tears stream down my face with the sheer joy of being entertained by a professional musician. Thank you for sharing.
The stupid and the jealous people. It's always like this. Whatever you do, there will always be someone who doesn't like it. You just have to ignore them.
100% natural comedy genius, and to top that a brilliant pianist and entertainer! Can you imagine spending time with this man, sadly that is no longer possible. RIP Legend!!
This man is absolute pure talent and genius. My grandparents loved him, and as a child I would watch him with them. We had a blast! I am so happy RU-vid allows him to entertain us for generations to come.
There was such a glorious era for comedy in the 50s through the '70s, Victor among them. To a young boy as I was, it was charm and humor to the max. I thought they were institutions, glad to see these videos exposing more generations to these passed treasures that touched us so.
Once when a storm had blown part of the roof off his house he said that guests were still welcome but to bring their own umbrellas. Nu sulking, just pure genius.
