I discovered this work with happiness. Obsessive music, distressing limit, the intensity of which gives resonance to the whole body. We vibrate in rhythm, the chills come, go and come back. What energy. The execution is magnificent and the sound recording still spectacular.

It's amazing how three notes (the ones at the beginning) can mark you for life

This may not make it to those who actually produce these videos, but thank you. They are so well produced and shot. They really show of the excellent artistry. Thank you for not changing shots every 5 seconds and capturing the artists.

J.Adamas and his operas introduced me to modern classical music, a world I never imagined I would like, so thank you, sir!

The buildup to the "Final Shaking" is amazing, and then there is the soothing tone from the double bass towards the end. I am left breathless.

Repetition in the wrong hands can be very boring. It takes a legend like John Adams to pull this off. It is like kinetic energy for the ears. Stunning performance!

We experience many repetitive minimalistic patterns...waves, birdsong, howling wind, a waterfall, a thunderstorm, the cracking of ice, the crackling of a fire, a ticking clock, the thrum of an engine. But while I recognise its aesthetic forebears, I still wonder where the boundaries of music, if any, lie. Is this real music, a true work of art? I have the same questions about modern poetry and painting. I enjoy the forms, they can speak suggestively, but can lack the disciplined constraints of a prescribed form. One person's expressive freedom is another's chaos or even pointlessness. Yet I know that aleatoric influences create evolution. For me, the argument remains in a state of unresolved tension. The work has intellectual heft, but I can't say it moves me or remains with me for long.

A wonderful complex work that seems to stop at least twice only to begin. Adams is winding up re musical narrative. And the big orchestra? Who does he think he is Mahler apres le letter?
