Two of the most interesting men's foil fencers on the circuit for their creative and modern approaches to fencing, this bout is a rematch of the Table of 16 bout at the Tokyo Olympics where Shikine beat Choi to advance to the quarter finals.

Shikine's first hit really is one of those ones where you wonder yourself how you got that to work. Nice video on a great topic: what to do when nothing seems to be working.

Excellent analysis! I was a little curious on the first point though. I note the call was overturned on review, however for me, Choi loses his PIL priority as soon as he withdraws his arm. Shikine thereafter immediately attacks, so I think the original call was the correct one.

The ref didn't give that hit to Choi as a point in line hit. The logic is: -Choi puts out the point in line, so shikine searches for his blade and stops for a bit. -Choi takes the opportunity while Shikine is searching to start his own attack (the searching is a preparation which can be attacked into). -Shikine tries to attack too late after Choi started. To be fair to both sides it's a close call, I agree to give it it Choi personally.
