Our TONEX KING, J.S., This reverb explaination is GREAT. It also explains why when some others have demoed this pedal they have said well the Spring reverbs do not sound like much. They should by DEFAULT be set that way they are to be Tweak Adjusted. You got at least 2 to 3 different type USERS of this pedal. A Live Gig person, A studio person, and most likely one who is Both, and they all have a different need. You seem to be the ONE with the MOST studio Knowledge, where other demo'ers may be like the 1st one, mainly a Gigger. They just need to be Smart enough to Dial adjust for their particular need. I have also had good success with direct captures and custom IR’s. Even the ViR cabs are great but lack a little color that my tone matched IR’s have. Cheers to you for making great Tonex content.
Thank you for all the helpful tips on the Tonex. I feel this is probably the most misunderstood modeler out there. Out of the box, it's not meeting most people's expectations. However, when I have applied several of these principles, for example, the input gain adjustment, and several other helpful tips, it has become super useful. I wasn't thrilled with hardly any of the captures on the tonex pedal, however, when I started importing some well made captures, I absolutely loved it and compared it to several of my classic fender amps and was amazed at the tone and feel. I have line six HX as well, but the amp models do not have the feel that these profiles have. I'm not saying this is better, I'm just saying Tonex is a better fit for me and my needs.
Tonex with proper gain staging and hx stomp with a little dynamic ambience before other effects is fantastic as well. Very real sounding to me. Good captures like yours and the input trim you've talked about before is crucial though.
Thanks Jason Really appreciate your explanation about ToneX, especially the reverb part. For some amps like the Fender ones, the reverB is really part of the tone, and can’t be simulate by the ToneX build-in reverbs :-) Any tip on that issue ?
The Direct Captures sound like a great option and I'm looking forward to checking them out! Would it be possible to make captures running directly out of an amp's effects loop, to try to capture just the pre-amp portion of an amp? Would it even make sense to do so? Maybe, one could then run the Tonex pedal in 4CM or into a power amp directly?
I regulated many tonex presets but I found a fuzzy noises and with middle high volume with pedal or interface option..I use every times headphones maybe I need to change them with middle range products? I have AKG K77 maybe I need to use more realistic models or brands at low volume? beyerdynamic? Which ohm and models?
Sounds good. Cab selection and Mic placement rule. 👍 I play and listen through good headphones, so tasteful use of Reverb is a must. Jim Lill just released an excellent RU-vid video called "The One Thing Every Influential Guitar Tone Has In Common." I think it is a much watch, and examines the whole "Amp in the room, and feel" phenomenon.
I appreciate the direct captures as I mainly use the tonex into a real cab. I feel like the complete captures with the cab disabled have something weird going on in the mids that is hard to dial out. They probably still sound great in the mix / with a full band, but playing by myself it doesn't sound right. Anyway, long story short, I'm buying your new DIRECT complete bundle
Yeah, I think for certain situations such as the one you mentioned, the DI captures work great! Thank you for grabbing the bundle and I hope you enjoy the tones :-)
Since reverb IRs are a thing I wonder if you can capture also the room in tonex using an additional room mic. Btw… I’ve got no clue… so I’m asking the professional of my choice.
Hi jason, consigli tutto questo anche se si utilizza nel rig un altro Reverb ed un Delay? Perché un altro Reverb si sommerebbe a quello di TONEX e il delay sarebbe dopo il Reverb di TONEX invece che prima! non si rischia di compromettere il suono? Grazie 😊
Sounds good, but why dont you explain the controls (vol, gain EQ) from that Amp. wheres r those coming from? since you took a capture, those r not the actual settings of the amp right?
