Absolutely. I have an Alberta spruce that I styled last year. I think it needs a go-over because it looks very flat to me. Think needs a general prune to encourage back budding then a general reduction in height also. I think it's so big I can't see the forest for the trees.
I often find that I am most motivated by the follow up videos. It's inspiring when someone who is so passionate about an artform is also equally passionate about teaching. I recently shaped a bonsai tree which I would not have done it were not for this channel. The fact that you decided not to do this extra shaping behind the scenes, but took the time and effort to make a video for us, is a testament to your dedication and talent for teaching, which is is highly appreciated!
As a designer, I try never to fall in love with my first solution to the problem. I generally set it aside and rethink the problem. Most of the time I ended up with a better solution. With a living tree I can see you will be constantly making small changes as the tree mature. Great lecture, Peter. Take Care and God bless. 🙏🙏🙏
@@peterchan3100 In that kind of circumstance when you make a mistake and take out the branch would you let the tree grow out and see what you are going to end up as the tree mature.? I like the idea of using the white paper to cover up the branch that you’re thinking of taking out to see how it would look. Mistake is part of the process of mastering your skills. Take Care, Peter and Be Safe. 🙏🙏🙏
I just videotaped myself trimming a bonsai, and after rewatching it, I decided I need to do more to it lol. Sometimes watching the video gives you new insights.
So happy to see you come back to this tree! I am as novice as they come when it comes to bonsai, especially literati style. Seeing the changes you made here validated a lot of my thoughts based on the knowledge I've been collecting and bit of experimenting I've done. It also showed me some new approaches I hadn't considered. Always something new to learn here, Thank you for the work you do!
I'm so happy you did that, it's soo much better! I would imagine a literati style tree is one that easily can become out of shape but It is my favorite style.
Ha! It was driving you crazy...you spent more time thinking about the two branches....now its time to work it more! Get out the shears! Get out the wire! Have a great day, Peter
_THANK YOU_ 🙏 😔 🙏 Dr. Chan, it rained again, as you _completed_ the _foundation_ of this rendition. We are definitely kendrid spirits, it is not correct, until it is correct. A very good video, and including two techniques to accomplish the task at hand. } much joy 😊 🙏😔🙏{ 🙏 🖖 🙏 😔 🙏
I'm glad you did this Peter. I was thinking the upper half of the trunk was too straight and that the side branch needed to come down at a 45 deg. angle so that it looked like a semi-cascade coming off the side of a mountain, but I didn't want to be too critical. I know often you just start the trees in your videos and leave the refinement until later, but it was bothering me. Glad you "fixed it".
Great vidio, You are very correct in seeing what a video of your project shows you and what to fix before the next video. Thanks for the morning coffee...
Great bonus. I love your musings about changes in life and art. Working with live trees implies changes are part of their growth and maintenance. What would life be if not for changes, for better or worst?
Can you do a video for beginners? I absolutely love the maple bonsai. I have a 3 year old maple in the garden I’d like to do something with and also a seedling. I’d love to know when to start chopping and wiring to start a bonsai but can’t find and beginner videos that explain it well.
Seeing you use a guy wire for the first time. I have seen old large trees in Japan that use supporting poles and props and they "enhance" the tree. Have you ever used them on a bonsai Peter? They would make more of a diarama and be a alternative to driftwood.
Body too long. If it were me. I would try the waterfall form. I would bury half the trunk in a deep flower/casgate pot. THIS IS A GOOGLE TRANSLATION....
You are over stressing the tree there are way more efficient ways to make bonsai plants. Just let nature do the work you don't need to force anything you can grow with it but it takes time don't fowlo this guy
