Impossible Pines for Literati 

This has quickly become my Sunday morning ritual, get up, make a coffee, watch Peter. Bliss.

There was a show here in the United States call the Joy of Painting with Bob Ross. It was very soothing and educational. I find these longer videos provide a similar soothing and educational balance.

As someone who has never owned a bonsai tree and has learnt everything I know about bonsai solely from Peter's videos, I am in awe of how blasé he is splitting a trunk in two! I would spend 30 mins debating whether to trim off a leaf that's blocking the view of the trunk...

Being an arborist I am truly amazed by you splitting the tree in half. I trust you when you say it'll heal up again, due to your sheer knowledge, but I always thought that when you rip the cambium like that, the tree will choke. Would love to see this incredible artpiece once more in the future!

You have created a masterpiece, Peter. I much prefer your way of approaching bonsai - not a mainstream, not sticking to rules, not following "I do bonsai the way my master taught me, as his master taught him, as his master taught him, ... I see it all too often in science, and it is simply boring. Your bonsai is like a good jazz. As any art, bonsai cannot be pushed into a square box, art is a free expression on one's state of mind. What you say about threes that they are showing you what they want to become - I just want to burst into cheers. "Haters gonna hate", but I love your work. Please do not stop doing what you are doing and sharing it with the world. Besides many other things, I have been teaching at university for the past 20 years. And, if I may be so bold, I recognize a great teacher when I listen to one; your teaching philosophy resonates with me. Wishing that the pandemic will be over soon; I would love to go to the UK and take a 1-2-1 lesson with you. Love, support and respect from Sweden!

That second one is just incredible .. I was very doubtful that it could be anything appealing and Peter comes through yet again.

But they seemed to add their own bit as they became what I would call, "the jazz ballet interpretation". I think this is one of your classics. I really appreciate your knowledge and teaching style. Dr. Chan, you mentioned some critics, please continue to do what we would say here in the U. S., back in the 1970's, "DO yo' thang'". Teaching us and assisting tree to become a great piece of YOUR Bonsai Art. The final form of that piece of ART will be completed by the tree itself, that is what it look like. And that will be quite different from what we see now. It would be great if, when Peter says "if you'd compare this to what the tree originally looked like", a picture of the original view would be inserted into the video. Or at least show before/after views at the end of the videos as you did for some time in the past.

These videos, dear Mr. Chan, in which you are as a magician producing real surprises, pieces of art, from nearly out of “nothing”, has become my favourite ones. You told me once “BE BOLD!” -- I will never forget this wise advice! Thank you

'I like challenging trees' Oh boy, we are in for a good one

Thanks Peter, this gives me great hope, I have a double trunk Douglas Fir I collected last Nov from a Volcano on a $10 Christmas tree permit and the trunk is very straight, it's 7' tall now and back budding like crazy, hopefully next year I can get some movement into it but just happy right now it's still alive.

Peter your videos has transformed my point of view of life and business. Honestly getting into bonsais May have been one of the best things that I’ve indulged myself into. I quit my job recently out of college to pursue some business opportunities in real estate and I think bonsai principles (although I still know very little of) requires a lot of patience and letting time work for you, which coincides with business and success. This was an awesome demonstration and the changes you made talking to us and yourself, ruminating what you were going to do do a bit at at a time shows us all how you got your 21 gold medals at the Chelsea flower show. Absolutely amazing how much difference you can make to a trees appearance just by tilting the root ball slightly in the pot. Loving your work as always Peter. Thanks for another great informative video.

This isnt my favourite kind of tree or style, but I still learned things, so the result of the project is immaterial. All of the things Peter did today are transferable, it was just WAY easier to see him work.

I love this, it doesn't even look like the same tree.

Bravo Master Chan....I tend to always look at trees and try to see what might be possible, not that I have the knowledge to execute it. This is a gorgeous example of finding the hidden gem, just waiting to be shown....But I fear I may have to stop watching until after dark, because each time you work, I tend to go out and start rethinking 80% of my collection...LOL..

I have seen you do similar splitting on a different tree. Good reminder of the fact that solutions can be more extreme with experience and the right knowledge(of species). Thank you for showing the possibilities. Really enjoyed this!

I know your thoughts of using a drum pot for this tree in the future, but can I imply that you might like it with a lotus pot as well. this might match the tree's flow with the pot. I might be wrong about this and the dum pot might make it look majestically stronger 🤔 regardless what style of pot you choose I love it.

Good afternoon Mr Chan. I thoroughly enjoy your RU-vid presentations. I've learned a lot. If I may, I'd like to make two suggestions to improve the visual quality of your presentations. First, please disable the «automatic exposure» feature on the camera and set exposure once and for all. Otherwise, exposure varies during the shot, particularly when the camera moves. Second, please disable the «automatic white balance» feature for similar reasons I also enjoy your colourful shirts. I suspect you sometimes hold your tongue, but I also suspect you are blessed with a great sense of humour. Please continue your excellent work.

I'll admit I was skeptical at the start of this one; you started in a very different direction than I thought to take it, and I was worried that it would end up with an unattractive "U" shape by keeping both trunks. But I should have trusted your eye, because by the time you were done all my concerns were assuaged. It really came together!
