I got prescribed stimulants when was 9 and I’ve now been on them for 17 years (I’m 24 now). I’ve created an extremely abusive relationship with my medication this past year and I’ve been searching for help. You gave me so much knowledge that I needed to hear. This gave me hope. I’m a very spiritual person and my addiction is the one thing that’s preventing me from my authentic success in life. This encouraged me so much thank you.

The addiction is permanent due to functional structural changes/damage to brain dopamine transporters as confirmed in MRI scans in a UCLA Meth PAWS study. I'm in the same boat but I stopped 10yrs ago I don't feel very good.

@Chris Topher - I feel for you, and those like you. That said, the changes are not physically permanent for most addicts recovering from this type of abuse. Typical recovery time for heavy abuse is usually nine months to a year. What you have experienced is certainly possible with years and years of heavy abuse, but I do not want someone to see that and think recovery is not possible, when it absolutely is. Also remember, there are things that can be done to repair those functionalities.

Great video, I had been taking adderall for over 5 years to initially assist me with my University studies, but eventually it became an unhealthy crutch. When I didn't have it, I felt incompetent to do simple tasks. I also started to feel guilty when accomplishing tasks faster than everyone else and would often become frustrated when my coworkers weren't moving at a similar pace. I agree with your point that adderall stems from a feeling of unworthiness. I also believe that people with "ADHD" don't need it, rather they need a healthier alternative because the side effects of adderall are far too many to be natural. I've been off adderall for 40 and the withdrawal effects sucked the first week, so I slept probably 14 hours a day during that first week and now I feel more clean on the inside. Great video by the way, I have to spend more time dealing with my unresolved feelings, adderall or any other idol can never heal us, healing comes from within.

the hardest part of quitting for me is when i'm not on it, i'm constantly thinking about how much better i feel when i'm on adderal. i'm 30, been forced to take stims since i was under 10. been abusing adderall HARD... my heart hurts. i hear voices in my head constantly. i can't remember when they started. and you nailed it when you said it doesnt let you enjoy human connection. i used it to set my life up to chill forever. but i need to quit right now or i'm going to lose everything i have. and probably die honestly. thanks

I took adderall for a year in college, extreme doses ~ 100-180 mg IR a day. The only time I’ve ever almost killed myself was coming off it. It’s been three weeks so far and so far so good. Tbh Jesus is the only person I can keep my eyes on to keep me from falling back. Does anyone know around how long my brain will take to go back to or near normal? I used to love studying, and writing, and drawing and now it feels like a whole mental debate trying to force myself to do these things again. I used to smile myself to sleep but since all this, I’m just disgusted with myself. I can definitely tell my brain is healing but it would be encouraging to know around how long it would take and also if anyone knows ways I can retrain my brain to be productive and find joy in meaningful things while I heal? Don’t speed kids. It was only a year and I regret it.
@rexheaton5977
@rexheaton5977 2 года назад
It took me a solid three months to recognize myself again & begin to show any sort of discipline/motives. I was around the same doses as you, at times much higher, for about a year as well. A speedy recovery was a dream of mine but I knew I had to suffer through the self-deprecating withdrawals. What truly saved me was cutting out all substances from diet that didn’t benefit my brain. Weed, booze, social media, video games, people, etc. with those gone all you have left is your core interests, writing, drawing, music whatever you like. The hardest part is just putting the pen to paper, just fucking do it though. Because as sooon as you do, you get a glimpse of the old you and That translates into self-esteem and builds momentum. I hope that kind of helps?

I like how you explain this, it sounds logical. The double blind study when someone thought they were taking a placebo but were actually taking adderall but had a worse "result"!! This is very confusing. Do you have a link to this study, or more info on it, as this part is not logical at all!! I've got ADHD and been on adderall for 7 yrs, I am now without it due to being unable to travel to my doctor! Do you have a way to reduce my "cold turkey", as I have not stopped suddently like this before. Thanks...Levi

@@mattheweraci5502 you can get off it. You're gonna have to take a couple weeks vacation and ween yourself down. Working out, cold showers, and proper nutrition are essential. You're also gonna need Nootropics like the ones I mentioned. @@JulianCesarTheGoat Great suggestion for a a normal person. Read my previous response. I don’t have 12 months and my brain at this point might not be able to produce the same chemicals. This video completely ignores those who take Adderall as a treatment for ADHD. For this group, it is a medication for a very serious disorder and the suggestions in this video are inapplicable and untrue. Not everyone who takes Adderall is trying to cover an emotional deficiency, find a boost of energy, or has "unsolved feelings."
@N4N0808

Then it doesn't apply to those people. The video is called "Adderall Addiction", I think its pretty obvious who this video is targeting.
@BillyG563

@@N4N0808 There actually many who fit in the category of those who struggle with an Adderall addiction while also needing it on a daily basis for a legitimate mental health disorder. (That's where I fit into.) It's an especially difficult addiction to overcome. Unlike a typical Adderall addict who is trying to never take Adderall again, this group of people are trying to figure out how to manage their Adderall safely as prescribed while breaking free from abusing it. If they don't live with someone who can keep their Adderall prescription locked up and distribute their daily dose, there aren't many other options out there. I've struggled with this exact scenario for 9 years. Remember, addiction comes in many colors and varieties. Any video on Adderall Addiction worth its salt at least acknowledges the main categories that this addiction manifests itself before giving advice or suggestions. The road to recovery is very different if someone plans to continue taking Adderall after their addiction is conquered.
@N4N0808
@N4N0808 3 года назад
@@BillyG563 If someone is YouTubing videos about Adderall addiction, they most likely do not have ADHD and do not need the medication. People who genuinely need Adderall do not get addicted to it, in fact they usually forget to even take their medication. If you feel “cravings” or a compulsive need to take Adderall, you shouldn’t be taking it.
@BillyG563
@BillyG563 3 года назад
@@N4N0808 Federal law requires the following statement to come attached to ever prescription of Adderall: AMPHETAMINES HAVE A HIGH POTENTIAL FOR ABUSE. ADMINISTRATION OF AMPHETAMINES FOR PROLONGED PERIODS OF TIME MAY LEAD TO DRUG DEPENDENCE AND MUST BE AVOIDED. I wish your comment that "people who genuinely need Adderall do not get addicted to it." Sadly, that's just not true. It's a powerful drug that can result in a serious addiction. This is why the FDA classifies Adderall as a Schedule II, right up there with Oxycontin. Addiction can be sneaky. People often slip into it slowly without realizing what's happening. Well, I didn't intend to get into a discussion about all of this, but maybe some of what I said may help you or other viewers. Also, consider looking up some info on the Opioid Crisis. The majority of those addicted and those who died from heroin and fentanyl overdoses started with a legal prescription for an injury and unwittingly got hooked. Same principal with the Adderall addictions that grew out of legal prescriptions.
