as somebody with ADHD, it was seriously a life saver and the ability to focus for the first time without difficulty was like putting on a pair of glasses without realizing the world was ever blurry without them. THAT SAID, I had been prescribed too high of a dose at once point and i can attest that it starts worsening your attention past a certain point

I think you exaggerated the differences between amphetamine (Adderall) and methamphetamine. Someone else already mentioned it but it seems disingenuous to choose the one picture where the meth structure is flipped in such a way that it makes it less obvious that they’re only different by one methyl group. Of course, one methyl group can make a world of difference, but in this case it really doesn’t. Both of them cross the blood brain barrier (otherwise how is Adderall supposed to help you focus…?). Both of them are Norepinephrine-Dopamine Releasing Agents. Yes meth is stronger when compared dose by dose and it does have some more action as a Serotonin Releasing Agent (but nowhere near the level of something such as MDMA). However, when compared at therapeutic doses, the effects are not a night and day difference as you seem to imply. Btw, I say therapeutic doses because you neglected to mention that methamphetamine in pill form is also approved for the treatment of ADHD. Of course smoking “crystal meth” is going to hit you faster and harder but that has more to do with the route of administration and super therapeutic dosing than it has to do with meth itself. I understand the desire to defend people with ADHD from assholes who call them junkies because Adderall is “basically meth”. The truth is that it really IS very similar, but so what? Meth is also approved for ADHD (in the USA anyway) and there are other countless medications that abused by people who don’t need them. It’s similar to what happens with people that suffer from severe/chronic pain and opioids (although opioids are arguably quite a bit more addictive than amphetamines). Are those medications addictive? Can some of them be described as “basically heroin”? Yes, but so what? Some people actually need them and they work great when taken as prescribed, we don’t need to stigmatize the actual sufferers of the disease because of the nature of the medications used to treat them.
