As the survivor of multiple relapses and near-fatal experiences with his addiction to alcohol and other drugs, William C. Moyers and his family knows what it's like to desperately need a good treatment program.
Join veteran broadcaster Bill Moyers, TV producer Judith Moyers and their son William C. Moyers, author of the new book Now What? An Insider's Guide to Addiction and Recovery as they discuss their own experiences with addiction, the treatment process and beyond. Now What? is William Moyers's answer to the thousands of people he has met through his work for the Hazelden Foundation who are in need of some kind of "road map" for getting into recovery and for eventually learning how to live fulfilling, sober lives.

Jinka1950 - yeah, true, but check out the film "The Anonymous People" - there's compelling reason to "come out" about recovery, and still honor the traditions of anonymity by not stating that one is a member of a specific 12 Step recovery organization. So, it's a fine line, I know, and yet, being able to reach people to help them get help, is also an important thing.... just consider that, but really , watch the film. Available on Netflix, Amazon and iTunes.... :-)

what about the drug dealers? why don't the police get the addicts to tell them where they are getting their drugs? because if there were no drug dealers then addict would not have a choice but to get off drugs...

Some jurisdictions have systems like this, but you can imagine that it'd be pretty hard to get too many buyers to expel that information because that would then mean their supply could get cut off, their lives could be put in danger, etc. Some police programs do work their way up the chain. They may ask buyers and tell them there's no risk for arrest if they say where they're getting their drugs. They then go to that small dealer and tell him that if he tells them where they get their supply, they can keep dealing and won't be arrested. They keep going up the chain until they locate one of the bigtime dealers and then finally an arrest occurs.

The people as described in his first book, Broken, are just addicts and the people they get from are also addicts. Feeding their addictions is what fuels them. Working up the chain is just a very long string of addicts protecting their suppliers. Eventually it could lead to someone big but there are 100 more out there. Mostly the police are just arresting addicts that then go through the system, very few of them getting treatment. Then the cycle starts all over again.
