I don't think most if any gov jobs will be on the table after publicly admitting to not just doing, but dealing drugs - for a clearance it can be hard enough to get past a history of use, let alone addiction, and for any of the type of jobs he was talking about they will do a deep enough investigation to find out. Also with his mom's job info and the student loan default/tax garnishment, he probably made himself extra identifiable. On top of that, something like the SEALs or any of the special forces is already one of the most competitive paths you could attempt to pursue. (Not to mention just officer school, which requires a degree, or boot camp are physically taxing with his injuries) There are other options out there for sure, but I wouldn't waste his time with gov/military.

Hi Caleb! I’m a student psychologist who works with veterans at the VA. There are positive aspects to being or having been in the military; for some people, it is an extremely meaningful experience with financial benefits. At the same time, veterans face major risk to their mental and physical health - post traumatic stress disorder and head injury are typical. Individuals with with pre existing mental health challenges may be especially at-risk for negative mental health outcomes following service in combat exposed positions. Anytime military service is considered, a hard reckoning with these potentials is warranted IMO.

As much as the addiction themed episodes can be challenging and sad to watch, damn they are so so valuable. It’s really interesting to view these situations from a high level, and it’s so clear that addiction seeps into all aspects of the addicts life, often without them even realising it. Being in recovery myself, I can look back now and see how my addictions drove me to be more impulsive with my spending and adopt a mindset that nothing mattered anyway so why not spend all my money now. I hope this young man finds the help that he needs, and can work towards his own form of recovery, whatever that might look like for him. It is possible!

Recruiters are struggling right now across all branches of service, so the military is offering massive bonus'. Some of them are $75,000+. There are also debt forgiveness incentives. Going into a Navy recruiting office, it's important to know what rate (job title) you are interested in, otherwise they are just going to throw you to whatever rate they need the most. Cheat Code: Tell the recruiter you want to be a TAR Aviation rate. Best kept secret in the Navy.

Someone tried selling it to me when I was in uni cause everyone and their grandmother had their bikes stolen on campus. I would definitely suggest trying to get into "K" program if it helping and/or get into substance abuse counseling over trying to quit cold turkey, as well as trying different AA meetings. I think that a lot of his career trouble comes down to what freaks out a lot of 20-somethings which is once you make certain career choices, it closes down other options. People (including me) like having ideas like the Navy SEALS and the FBI and tech and insurance but it’s hard to make definitive moves towards one and give up the others

This a thousand times over! I would suggest the Defining Decade - how to live your 20s so you don't regret your 30s and 40s.

He said "I think I'm good where I'm at, mentally, physically, and with the situation of the accident, as well." So he says he's good where he's at physically, but is expecting a payout from the accident? I don't think he realizes how difficult it is to win such lawsuits....

This was one of my favorite ones to date this guy is incredibly real I will say though if you’re thinking about the military based on your background the air force wouldn’t take you on. The marines would probably be your best option possibly army good luck to you in the future man! I look forward to seeing the follow up video

Hammer score of 4???? Seriously Caleb, this guy is an opportunistic burn out. Talk about dying on the Walmart floor, this guy is the epitome of that hands down!

Unfortunately for him he's going to be disqualified for any Federal law enforcement agency immediately, for drug use. Has to be sober for 5 years before they'll over look it, 3 for cannabis.

Damn, I had no clue those pay-to-ride electric scooters were that expensive. I think I saw one charge for like $21.

He should be careful with waiting for settlement money. It could take years and he could be so financially sunk by that time, that he won't get to keep it (liens etc). It's best to pretend the money is not a possibility until it's in his pocket. I think he's living as if he's going to get rich suddenly. It's dangerous.

The fact that insurance hasn’t already settled says a lot too. Most insurance companies will settle any half decent case to save legal fees and get the tax write off.

I’d love to see you interview someone who’s doing OK financially so we can learn about real financial planning rather than just paying off stupid debt and not spending money on takeout. Love the show though! As someone with virtually no debt, I’d love to learn where to put some of my (little) excess income and PLAN for my future. 💜

I'm glad the guy stopped selling drugs, a conviction will close off getting jobs in many fields....finance/insurance/banking, healthcare, and law enforcement will all be off limits, and many firms with $1 billion in sales will always do a background check. My first impression on this guy is that he belongs in sales. He is a very good conversation.....doesn't stutter or constantly go 'uummmmmm' or 'aaaahhhhhhh', generally stays on point, unlike many people who can't answer a simple question from Caleb. Just the kind of guy you can have a conversation with, even if your politics and life experiences are different. He has sold drugs in the past, so long-term become a legal drug salesperson for big-pharma. Another options is that if you can get your judgement in a lump sum, open a weed store. I really think this guy should have waited for the lawsuit to complete before doing this interview. Admitting to drug/alcohol use during a traffic incident is not a good look. With his injuries, this guy will never be in any kind of special forces 🤣

I don't know how we went from "I got hit by a truck and can't work" to "I want to join the military." There are still mandatory physical requirements that you have to meet. Same with FBI. And while there are waivers, usually to come in and get a waiver, you need to have some sort of skill that is in high demand to get one.
