Adding a Battery to my OneWheel Pint !

Ok guys, that's a big one for me. Since the Pint has a smaller range than the XR, I decided to add an extra battery to it. With that new battery my range goes from 13 km (8 miles) to approximately 32 km (20 miles). So today is the installation part. Stay tune for the ridding review!

Different cant say Ive seen this look for a battery mod neat. I just modded mine with a X2R very similar concept just this ones an entire fender and not 2 halves. nice to see more options coming into the space.

I've look into the X2R, but I found that the back fender was taking too much space for me to place my foot... I was scared I wouldn't like it. How to you find it. Do you see a difference in your back foot placing?

Glad it worked out well for you! Now, not to be critical, only to provide some information about what could have gone terribly wrong with this modification: #1, notice that both wires on the fender battery are the same color? My point? Which one of the wires is positive? (Kinda important) this is where a volt meter would come in handy. #2, notice the use of electrical tape on the wires when reconnecting them? Why not use a wire crimping tool? Much cleaner and, makes the wires connect properly. #3, wouldn’t it be nice if there was a plug on the outside of the controller instead of having to open it each time you need to remove the fender? Don’t get me wrong, having the extra battery is a great idea! That said, with a few things done differently during the installation, it could have been even better. Best of luck!

Thank you for your input!! It is nice to have different perspective on these things. #1 I didn't do the wiring of the battery-fender. I agree, it could of been 2 color as electric wires are usually. But the plug itself can only be plug one way, unless the maker would of made a mistake, I couldn't. #2 The electric tape was not necessary, I add that to add protection. #3 Totally agree with you on that one!!!! I thought about it, after... might do that this spring. I'm sure the guy that make these have made some changes since I order mine. Or maybe it would be a good idea to propose those ideas to him. Also, I would add that I would of like a connector so I can disconnect the battery if I wanted too, cause if you do trails, branches or rocks can get stuck between the fender and the wheel and make you fall, so it would be nice to be able to remove it.

Thanks! I didn't get the chance to test the range yet because it is winter... so I can't get a "real" experience. But I've been riding it in the cold and it's been working great. No issues. I will be doing a video on a range test as soon as it gets warmer. It is still -10°C/14°F here with snow. So... not the best to test batteries...

Yes, it sucks when you are eager to go riding! Not sure of what you what to know by "comment in the battery mod"... maybe I didn't slept enough... 🤔 You can't ride with the app open, so you need to set your stuff before you ride or stop riding if you want to make some changes. So I use the app "Relive" to keep track with me route.

Hey if u don’t like scratches you can get a fangs version two for the pint it helps with nose dives and scratches in the front

I thought about the fangs. I have the float plate cause the scratches was mostly done in the back when I stop.

Cool addition, my only concern with battery in fender is a rol over crash.. I would be concerned about flexation ( scheer) of the cells. Thermal runaway of lithium is scary.. if risk it for the extra range if I were a pint rider though... chi battery ftw for me...

Thank you for your concern. The fender itself is very solide. It would have to be a very hard drop for it to crack. Each cells have their compartements and the battery has a bms. I can't buy the Quart since it is an extra 200$ US shipping fee.

You also have access to the cells. There is a door you can unscrew to get to them... if ever something would happen.

@@LivingLifewithJudith thats interesting, you could upgrade cells too as new ones are developed. Im glad to hear its durable, if you've never seen a cell go thermal then be stoked.. its crazy how much stored energy gets released in like 2 mins.. 15 years back had a thermal runaway 12volt tool battery almost burn a shop down when it went... crazy..

Yes, I saw them get really hot. It's crazy. Well, houses have burned because of that!!! I also have a power on/off button which cut the power.

@@LivingLifewithJudith If thermal runaway happens a poqer button will not stop it.. best plan is to dump board on its side and get away fast.. if you're in the woods, try to out board in rocks or dirt.. ive not seen a onewheel battery go thermal but have seen an e bike do it after a bad impact.. if you have a power switch controlling the added cells make sure all loads are equal between board and extra battery or you can risk in rush current damage.. in simple terms voltage = pressure... make sure pressures are equal... happy floating:)

It is a little bit higher than the original fender of the Pint, but it is not longer or wider, so it doesn't take any space on the foot pad. The guy who makes them wanted to do a website... he was just starting, so I don't know if he done it yet. The only negative thing I would say this fender has, it that you can't remove it if you prefer to ride in trail, so branches and debries might get stuck between the fender and the wheel. It would be possible to make it removable, but you would need to tweak it a bit.

I think it would. My firmware is Gemini-5050 and my hardware is 5314. I've asked Shred Town Battery Systems waiting for his reply.

You would get a lot more range if you used a different tire. When I was using the Hoosier treaded tire I would get 5-7 miles. now I use the craft and ride SS-11 tire and get 9-11 miles of range.

You are totally right. I was made aware about that a few days after I had bought the treated tire... back in november. 😔 Now, I don't want to spend money on another tire since this one is new. Even though I loose a bit of range, I still like the tire, especially in trails.

I tried bringing my PSI higher on the treaded but didn't like it... so I went back to my 20 psi. I wouldn't change my treaded tire for the original, I like my treaded too much.

The good thing about the Quartz is that it doesn't affect the look. But for me, the price and the fact that I had more range (since I have a treated tire I loose range) with this one help me make the decision to go for that one.
