Selecting a finish for a woodworking project, sanding and applying the finish is often the most satisfying part of the job. In this video we use a water based dye for the carcass of the project, then finish the entire project with Tung Oil to give it a deep rich looking finish. We also wanted our box joint joinery to stand out which is another reason for choosing Tung Oil, not to mention the odors from polyurethane or varnish type finishes.

Finished cabinet looks nice Colin. I like the look of pine. There is a pre-stain for water based stains. I hear it works great. Thanks for sharing Colin, Roland

I'm astonished with your overwhelming woodworks, really. I'm trying to make something by myself, and slowly I'm buying some tools. The problem is to find the wood. In DIY stores I can find just pine softwood, but I fast realized it's not always suitable to make a good job (and it's really expensive, as well). Do you have some suggestion where to buy it? Thank you!!!!

Well, thanks for you compliment, but I am really a pretty average woodworker. in the scheme of things, but thanks. Yes, woodworking can be expensive to get into, with tools, wood and machinery. I don't know where you live, but I would recommend that you connect with a woodworking club in your area. I'll be there is one and they can be a tremendous resource for you in getting tools, wood, information and good knowledge. Give that a try and see how you make out.

Good video. Might have been good to talk about the importance of removing all glue from the exposed wood though. The left side showed a streak in the seam that looked like it was from glue residue. Also, Minwax tung oil is a mix of pure tung oil and other chemicals. I know this wasn't to discuss tung oil so much as to provide a demo, but you should probably wear an organic respirator while using it. Overall it was great. Nice looking cabinet!

I thought I mentioned about the glue, but it might have been edited out. I saw that small part that you are talking about but then forgot to look closely at it because you are right it did look like a residue glue, but then the pins stuck out so far I wondered how it could be ... or if it was just an anomaly on the wood. I will have to look at it again. Thanks for bring up the topic .... other will also learn from this :) Colin

That's my hope, not to criticize but to help others learn about it. I've had many project with glue streaks and it's nice to know before hand how to watch for the m and how to get rid of them. Thanks again for the vid!
