We're a DIY family building our "forever homestead" from 15 acres of raw undeveloped land in Tennessee. All of our content is family friendly and safe for everyone to enjoy.
In today's video we are adding a roof to our mobile home that will cover our deck. This is an easy way to add a roof to an existing deck with minimal tools needed. This is a very strong roof and made to last! Let's go!

Hi Sam and Angela. Have you thought of putting gutters on the edges of the roof and capturing the rain water? With a long hose, Angela can water the plants. Way to go Elijah. Your new construction company name, Elijah, Mom, and Dad Construction.

LOVE this channel and this family! And how refreshing to see a young son help his dad! I don’t see this on a lot of channels. Of course it doesn’t mean they’re not helping when the cameras are off. But in this case, it’s nice to see Elijah being part of a job and helping dad! He’ll always be able to say, “I helped my dad build that when I was a kid!” 🥰

I've heard that the older generations in the South used to paint their underside of their porch roofs a light blue to imitate(I think) the color of the sky, and it would deter bees and wasps from making nests up there! Don't know why it works but they swore by it! Just a thought.😊❤

Such an improvement to any house and deck. The sun won't have as much chance to be so shiny on you so you can enjoy your outside experiences. Love those boys too. Great to see another man putting his boy to work! I had my boy do an asphalt shingle roof on the treehouse when I built it 30 years ago. He was 7 or 8 and he still takes pride in that roof today!

Elijah really did a super job with attaching the roof!! His ability to control the drill really shows off his skill! Very creative solution for connecting the first two posts to the deck structure. At first glance, I’m not totally convinced the bracket to post connections are sufficient to prevent uplift in a windstorm.

The porch roof looks fantastic! I’m old so I will always put the screws on the ridge. That way no one will ever have to go back and re-tighten or replace screws. Love watching you guys.

I just stumbled on this video! Your porch is gonna outlast your house! 😂 I never understood why they put screws in the ribs. You're right, Sam! And I was that kid who was light enough to throw up on the roof with a screw gun about 40 years ago. Glad to see a kid willing to help. Skills have been taught and learned. 👍👍
