My wife is preparing to take the GED test, and so, of course, she asked for my help. I took a lot of math in high school and college, but I was in high school over twenty years ago, and my last college class was over ten years ago. She came to me saying, "If I have two negatives, I subtract." I replied, "No." "Then why am I getting the right answer?!?" She countered. Then, during the ensuing debate, it came out that she was talking about subtracting integers, which, to me, is three negatives, not two. I couldn't remember ever subtracting two negatives, so I came to RU-vid and found your video. AEWSOME!!! It might be because I love to write, but I loved the idea of it being a story and the third negative being like a double negative in a sentence. That analogy really helped me. THANKS!!!

I'm glad someone finally explained a little about what the problem MEANS. By explaining the meaning behind 4 + ( -7 ), it helped me understand the REASON for doing the problem in the first place. Very helpful to know WHY you're doing something!

Out of all the adding and subtracting integers videos I've seen yours is the best!!!! you took your time explaining the rules and you were super amazing with your examples. this video finally helped me understand when to subtract integers and add.
Have been out of school for, ahem, a few years. When your video popped up I decided it was time for some refreshment. Each night I watch a video just to make sure I remember the basics. You make things easier by far than this “new and better” method they are using to teach my grandson. Thank you for reminding this older lady I still got it when it comes to math.

I was in special Ed and I was doing 5th grade math but after I graduated I wanted to know all the math I wasn’t able to learn in school so far I’ve learned integers,square roots and algebra the next thing I’ll have to learn is percentages in my math book I bought all the spectrum math books,McGraw hill ,Sylvan,workbook for dummies, grades 1-8 practice problems workbooks (forgot the name of those books) it’s easier to understand it now then it was nearly 12 years ago and your videos have helped me out a lot

You're very smart,..a child needs to figure it out logically and the number line shows the actual working of the problem ..and the other is just a method taught to solve it quick and think less,..wonderful teacher you are !!!
You are absolutely right. Most of the instructors today don't care. They're there for a paycheck, and a few understand if you observe it okay. If you don't next. I know that for a fact. I am 45 years old. I'm going back to school. And I know for a fact when I was in school the teachers didn't care. Oh how it's fascinating. Concept idea, it was their own kids and be a whole new different story right?
Amazing instruction!! I'm in college now and taking developmental math ( because i haven't taken algebra since 1981). Trying to re-learn something I haven't used in 40 years can be daunting...Your instruction is very good I'm actually learning 😅 🙃 Because the college has a program where you take developmental math and college algebra with same professor, I'm more confident that I'll pass the class starting on January 31. I'm actually excited about math again!
