Thanks Ray as always, we thought you had 40A DC DC MPPT Renogy, anyway look like Renogy gets same Bluetooth module and calling same same, just wondering they same unit😁

gracias por el comentario le conecte un BT-2 original de Renogy y no trabajo apago toda las luces led el cableado debe ser diferente. El chino suyo si trabaja. ....(thanks for the comment I connected an original Renogy BT-2 and it didn't work I turned off all the led lights the wiring must be different from your Chinese if it works......) I'm using the same app for a different controller but I am having trouble getting information about the solar panel input on the main app page

I found that it takes about 30 secs or so to appear. I think the app only updates every 30 secs or so.

Just a heads up. The Renogy BT app is no longer supported by Renogy. It has been replaced with the app... Renogy DC Home.

@@christianherranz1787 Honestly not yet. I decided to go with a Midnight Solar all in one inverter and I'm not 100% that the BT2 will work with it. It has the port for it so I will test it out when I'm finished building the system. I do have the BT1 on another system and it works just fine on Renogy and the new phone app.

I have the same solar controller and just installed the BT-2 adapter. For the temperature function in the display you mentioned it is for the controller. I saw yours reporting 25C. Mine does the same thing although this never changes even in wild ambient temperature swings it always defaults to 25C so it appears useless unless I am missing something. Interesting though on the display screen that came with the solar controller it does in fact display the temperature of - I am guessing - the controller. Strange the blue tooth does not report out this function. As you said blue tooth can be flaky.

❤ Ray, I was wondering if you have looked for a dual female in and a male out connector that would allow you to have both the Bluetooth hooked up as well as the monitor? Just a thought. RV'rs love backups.👍👍

Possibly, guess it depends on the circuitry, hard to get schematics to see what each wires are doing.

Don't think about it just do it. When we sold our toy hauler and got our new to us Diesel Pusher, had 600 watts of solar panels on order from Amazon before the registration even transferred.

Thank you Ray. I never tire of your videos. Can't remember, and do not have time for review so asking. How many watts of what brand panels were you using as that controller approached 49 amps of production? Again, thanks for your videos.

Currently, on the roof, I have 6 -100 watt Renogy panels and then last summer added 2 - 170 watt BougeRV panels wired in parallel. so 940 watts. This is a lot more power than this 40A controller can feed to my batteries but I have purposely over paneled the roof since I have the space up there so can try and harvest 40 amps even if its partially cloudy or the sun angle is poor or some panels are shaded. @Love Your RV If you have different sized/spec'd panels together you won't get the maximum performance from them. You will want to separate them on different controllers. Consider the HQST 40a #M2440N currently like $115 and built in Bluetooth with ALL the same features and options for substantially less money. There's also the BogueRV 40a for like $95 both on Amazon

Thanks Ray. Just wondering if you ever consider security with these cheap, made in china things that need you to load app/software to your phone? For me, there's no way I'd load an app on my phone from a devise like this. To high a chance there's spyware on it. Good chance part of the reason they sell this stuff cheap is they can sell your info or sell access to your phone. Especially valuable if one has banking and credit card info on ones phone, which is crazy to start with. About the only way I can think to mitigate the app trying to spy on you would be to have it on an old phone that doesn't have a cell/data plan on it so it can't monitor you 24/7. Strip your old phone of everything, do a one time secure wifi load of the app then turn off wifi access. It's not perfect by any means, but at least it gives some isolation from your real phone and personal info. Just a thought. And at least gets some value added use out of old phones which one shouldn't be just tossing out or trading in anyway.

I use a couple different methods to enhance security. I try and only load apps that are on the Play store so Google may have vetted them. I use a phone security app called Lookout that scans the apps play.google.com/store/apps/details?id=com.lookout&hl=en_CA&gl=US and I use a password manager called Lastpass www.lastpass.com/ and I also have most critical things set up to use fingerprint for login. I won't worry about it the power draw is very low. See the specs www.srnesolar.com/product/bt-1-2 .04W standby. That is about 1 watt hour per day.

Curious if you are still using your DC to DC converter or with your travel restriction is it not being used right now to its full potential ..

No, haven't used hardly at all. Covid hit a few months after the install and with restrictions we haven't got out to camp off grid much and when we have its only been for a few days at a time. Hoping they open the USA border next month and we can take off of 6-7 months of travel. Cheers, Ray

Hey, Ray. Have you been comparing the accuracy of the BT--2 against anaything else. I find the data to be way off. Not in the voltage but in the percentage remaining, algorithms seams to be way off in mine.

Watts. volts and amps seem pretty close but like I said the battery percentage for me is useless as I have a lithium bank and you can't measure it properly at all using voltage as a metric which is all this controller attempts to do. Even lead acid isn't going to be that accurate. It's comparable to the battery level lights in the RVs. To measure the state of charge of a lead-acid using the voltage you needed to disconnect all loads and let it sit for a few hours. To get an accurate indication of battery bank charge level you need a more sophisticated battery monitor that utilizes a shunt. The shunt is used to keep track of amps in and out of the batteries. Like a Trimetric or Victron for example. I have the Trimetric. www.bogartengineering.com/products/battery-monitor.html The battery bank amp-hour size and charge algorithm are programmed into the monitor. Then by analyzing the shunt amperage it can then measure the power being taken from and added to the battery bank to keep track of the charge level. Cheers, Ray

Was playing around with the BT to compare with the Aili, but there is no comparison. Although the BT does have nice daily use tracking features.

Yes, looks like it. Leads me to believe Renogy gets some of its solar controllers made by SRNE and rebadges them as Renogy www.srnesolar.com/

@@LoveYourRV ya I wouldn't doubt it. I like my renogy products. Seem to be pretty solid so far after a year sitting in the van with super cold temperatures etc . I got the 40 amp solar charge controller and the 50 DC to DC solar charge controller in my other van

I have 6 Renogy 100 watt panels, 2 are nearly 8 years old and still working great, also installed the Renogy 40 amp DC-DC converter in 2020 and working well, so I have had good luck with their products.

Why would it not work for tracking lithium battery percentage, if you change the volt settings accordingly to your batteries it should work correct? And what other device are you using to keep track of the battery percentage?

Lithium batteries have a very narrow voltage discharge curve so its basically impossible to get an accurate state of charge using voltage as a measurement, even with lead acid its not a great indicator as to get a true measurement you need to have a rested unloaded battery, not one being used. When being used the lead acid voltage sags due to the amperage draw and takes a while to rebound. I use a battery monitor that uses a shunt so it can monitor battery charging and discharging amperage as well as voltage. No, but I have a on/off switch on my solar panel feed and a switchable breaker between the battery and the controller. So I first turn off the solar and then the breaker. A person could also just remove the wires. Cheers, Ray

Are you sure it will work with this model. In this video its a MC series SRNE controller and looking at the RM-5 its says compatible with the ML series SRNE controllers which use a different interface port type plug. One looks like a telephone jack and the other looks like a Molex connector. Cheers, Ray
