you have to use a gloss black behind the spazstix

The Molotow really stands out. It is on the expensive side though. I tried it and it is definitely the best liquid chrome that I know - minus drying/curing time.

What's the dry/cure time?
@parnashwind
@parnashwind 2 года назад
@@sirt3abaggins I don't really know. It still leaves marks when handled casually after a week. I left the model on the shelf and only picked it up a few months later and yes tis fully cured.

The Molotow looks the best by a mile!! The others just looked like bright silver.

I've used 91% rubbing alcohol (25%) to reduce it down for airbrushing. No issue with how the Molotow chrome came out. Still an almost perfect reflection after it dried.

Ive been holding off on airbrushing Molotow, how long will it take to dry?> 24-48hrs?
@Ardie1962
@Ardie1962 5 лет назад
@@GunplaJimboPR I've been giving it 3-4 days (72-96 hours) to dry. Only because you do not want to touch it and kill the chrome shine. Then use a good clear coat to keep it safe and workable. I use an automotive 2 part clear coat that works great.

thank you so much for this! ive been looking for a comparison between these paints for years lol now I definitely will do a new project requiring chrome. I heard using the alclad clear gloss will protect the Molotow chrome.

I have been "rechroming" parts for 5 years now and it is so much better than the plated chrome on plastic model kits. I've always used Alclad and was basically happy but noticed it "comes off" or seems to somehow, maybe a bit of handling, which obviously bugs me. The black base starts to show through. I've sprayed with their clear sealer which helps or even Taimya clear. I was going to buy a Molotow refill but at almost $30 on Amazon, by far the cheapest, I didn't jump in yet. He was not really correct on the Alclad price as MegaHobby has it for $9 rather than $15 making it about 1/3rd the price of Molotow. I am thinking I'll just stick with Alclad and do a more thorough job of sealing it. I'd be happy to hear any recommendations.

You deffinetly have to buff the spaz stix with dry microfiber and you'll see a huge difference, my opinion, it's the best looking over a high gloss black backer.

Hey man good comparison! Can you let me know what sized airbrush needle you used? Also I noticed your gloss black doesn’t look very shiny. I believe the Alclad needs the gloss black super shiny before applying to get a super shine similar to Molotow.
@GalacticArmory

Thank you! I'm really not sure what needle I used, just the default one it came with. Yeah I was kind of disappointed with the black as well. I couldn't get the gloss I was after.

Not yet but I wouldn't rule it out
@GalacticArmory

Follow up: lightly touching it or picking it up doesn't fade it too much but if you touch it with more force the shine will smudge and you can't buff it back!

Thx for your replies Yeah, I thought it might.. I’d painted the faceplate on a Kylo Ren helmet a couple of days before you posted your video.. I mixed the Liquid Chrome with Lacquer 50/50 - yeah, I know that lacquer and metalcolors usually is a no go, but this is no ordinary paint. It didn’t have any visual downside - looks the same.. Read somewhere that it needs more than a week to dry and harden, so I haven’t touched it yet.. I’ll keep you posted
@iamtheai2759
@iamtheai2759 5 лет назад
You need to seal it with gloss clear enamel. Must do if you want to touch it.
@Ardie1962
@Ardie1962 5 лет назад
This is a slow drying paint and needs a week of drying before you even think about touching it. That said, let it sit a week, then clear coat it. Then wait 24 hours before touching it.

when you paint with any spray tool, whether it's an auto body gun, spray paint can, or airbrush, you should always spray in straight long lines, overlapping the last line 50% on each new line. just randomly spraying all over the place until you get coverage is not how to get the best results.
@kamranos
@kamranos 4 года назад
Why does it look like you had matte black as a base? That black base should be super glossy.
