The sound was a little low for me. It's funny I found this though- I'm learning all I can about Ember tetras now because I also have a plakat koi betta in a 10 gallon that looks a lot like yours and wanted some companions for them- and chose these tetras. Good to see them all get along! (My 7 are currently still in Quarantine, I'm hoping all goes well).
@@WrenGoYeet Lol, not so well. The instant they were through quarantine and I added them to my betta's tank, she immediately started trying to eat them. Would not stop chasing them around the 10 gallon. Poor embers were already stressed, so I ended up putting her in a time out for a bit to let them chill (she jumped and got back in the tank anyway, lil' bugger) and the next morning I transferred all 7 ember tetras to another tank (where they are quite happy now). The betta now has only ghost shrimp and snails for friends, alas.
Nice aquascaping; your aquarium looks great! I have a Fluval Flex 15 with a glofish male betta, a mystery snail and two Endler livebearers. I picked the glofish male, not because he was a glo, but because he was light-coloured, and active but not flaring at other bettas when you put their containers together. He occasionally chases the Endlers but he can't come close to catching them and he doesn't seem to be stressed by their being there. I'm thinking of adding 6 ember tetras; your video gives me hope that this will work. If it doesn't, I can put them in my 29 gallon community tank. I'm sorry to hear that your plakat betta died; he was a beauty and I'm sure he gave you a lot of pleasure.
Nice tank, fish seem happy but I don't think rams could go with bettas especially with the tank size. Its's good for the stocking but the ram and betta are generally semi agressive.

I like Embers. Their colour really pops against a lush green planted background. Against most backgrounds really... wood, rock of any colour. Darker substrate colours work best.. Not a fan of German Blue Rams. Too delicate .. and they really need a higher water temperature that most tropical fish
Check on Petco. They have 20 pounds of black sand for $17.99 but I highly recommend caribisea eco planted substrate ($20 for 20 pounds) under the sand. Plants grow amazing this way! Plus some osmocoat root tabs. No C02. Needed 🤩
I have a dumbo male Betta in a community tank, and he does just fine. Even with my snails! I had a male white opal Betta who done amazing in a community setting to. The longer finned Bettas tend to do better in this type of setting because they can't move as fast. So that ultimately leaves it up to the owner to make sure they don't add in any fin nippers!
It's a low-tech planted tank without fertilizers, only a cheap NICREW LED light. Everything in this tank is extremely easy to grow with a decent light, and how shallow the tank is helps more light to reach the plants.
The heater is a 100 watt aqueon pro heater and the light is a 20" NICREW LED fixture, you've probably already decided on equipment though considering this was a month ago lol
It's entirely dependent on the personalities of the individual fish. If you have a ton of plants like I do in the video they will rarely see each other and it's less likely that they'll fight, but the chance will always be there so I wouldn't do this unless there's some other tank to move the ram to if it doesn't work out. No good source would tell you that bettas are compatible with German rams because if just left together in an empty tank, there's a very good chance that they will fight a lot.
I feel like pygmy cories would be a very likely target for a beta fish, considering how hyper-active they are and how much they swim up the water column. I've also never kept them, though, so you should definitely consult with people on a forum who have.
Do you find Plakats tend to be more aggressive? Reason I ask is because they are closer to the ancestor of the original siamese fighting fish. How's the Betta holding up so far?
My betta fish passed away roughly three weeks ago. For several weeks he slowly started eating less and less food and eventually ran out of energy and would sit near the surface on a plant leaf. I had him for two years since spring 2018, a much shorter time period than I expected to. I really wanted to make an update video after seeing how many people liked the tank, but without the betta I decided to rehome the ember tetras and moved the german blue ram into the 29 I used to quarantine my discus. To answer your first question, after a few weeks of some slight aggression towards the german blue ram, there wasn't much aggression in the tank. He was very active and I'd definitely recommend getting a plakat over any other tail type. They make so much more use of the space available to them than longer tail types. I don't think they are more "aggressive" just that they are much more capable of attacking other fish in the tank because of their more practical tail and fins. Probably not the reply you were hoping for, so sorry about that.
They are the only fish I have except for one tank. I love them dearly but they are ALL sooooo naughty and not just Plakats! I think in a 7 to 10 gal tank some not so mean bettas (it's up to the individual fish's mood levels and aggressionP can live with a fish bigger than them and also if they are not fin nippers or aggressive......Do a lot of research. It's a pain in the rear to find tank mates for bettas and nerve wracking to try a specie out. Also, it's been recommended to me to have a Plan B.
