Adding loose watercolour to a line drawing

I set out to add very minimal watercolour washes to this line drawing, and reckoned I could do it in less than 7-8 minutes. I hadn't reckoned with my inbuilt 'what if' sense though, and needed up adding far more than I intended to: even at the point where I stopped, I could feel myself wanting to add even more colour to the buildings, ti the street scene.....it's a curse I tell you! Still, I'm fairly happy with the finished result, and hope you like it.....as always, comment away and suggest anything you might like to see me demonstrate next?

I hope you had a nice birthday, love your art, I think a straw might help with blowing the paint. 😊

Lovely work, I use a fountain pen for drawing too. I have a Kaweko pen but I love the Lamy Safari pens.

Thanks for sharing. This was very inspiring! This is something that I want to try in future, just not to colour it all!

Hi! Glad to have found you! Loved the blowing paint technique. I hadn’t thought of doing that for a suggested surface look. Thanks for posting this!

Hi John, do you only do landscape.? I would love to try and paint some little paintings of Morandi’s later in life watercolours of very simple still life (pots usually) …..do you know how I could learn that? Other than that I love the ink/ watercolour landscape you are showing us!
@JohnHarrison51
@JohnHarrison51 2 года назад
Thanks..Yes, my subject matter of choice is usually buildings in the landscape, whether it’s urban or rural… I’m not much good at other stuff: portrait. Life drawing, animals etc…

is it watercolor paper on that sketchbook? is it cold press?
@JohnHarrison51
@JohnHarrison51 2 года назад
It is 100% cotton,& yes, it’s cold press watercolour paper Just enough texture for me, although I do prefer rough 😎

Hi, I like how relaxed you are….you make watercolour feel possible and quaint…..like sweet…. ….do you ever go wet in wet? And when would a person want to do wet in wet rather than wet into dry?
@JohnHarrison51
@JohnHarrison51 2 года назад
Thank you for the kind words… I use wet and dry around 97% of the time: I just love the effects you can get with the dry brush a technique on rough paper: The only time I will use wet and wet is when I want to have a more painterly effect on the sky-using blended colours et cetera, and this is usually on a commission rather than a sketchbook piece or demonstration. Another use of wet in wet is in the painting of water, but as I am nowhere near accomplished enough painter to do this convincingly I stay well away from it.
