Happy 2021!
Here’s hoping for a better year than the one we just got through. It’s been a while since my last video: blame COVID which laid me low just before Christmas and robbed me of any energy or motivation to draw!
For this inaugural 2021 drawing I’m mainly concerned about getting my drawing flow back, so apologies if it doesn’t seem very exciting.....as I mention in the commentary I am more than happy to create future videos based on specific subjects or techniques (as long as it’s within my area of expertise), so please let me know, either in the comments, or by email to me:john@drawninyorkshire.com

Sorry to hear you've been ill, glad to hear you're on the mend. I like what you do, no need to change anything.

Hello John, Glad to see you are recovering nicely ouf Covid and wish you the best and a lot of new videos ! I follow your videos since last year from France where I live . I guess we are the same age if you were established in 1951 ;-). Just as an extra info : 50% of my roots are in Yorkshire, my mother was born in Bradford and remained all her life a proud Yorkshire lass. I live and work in the countryside nearby Lyon and funnily, landscapes are quite alike those of Yorkshire your draw with kilometer of dry stones walls and isolated farms which I would like to draw using "your style". Since you asked us some suggestions , i'm fascinated by the simplicity of your drawing sketching only the major lines and dropping all the unnecessary surroundings. I always try to put to much lines and details and never "understood" what I should look at and what can be just dropped. So, my suggestion is : Would you consider making a video showing how to detect them from a picture (showing us on the picture) what you keep (and why) and what you drop That would certainly help me and most likely some other of your fans. I signed in to be kept posted about new videos and news and will glad to have the opportunity to chat with you through this thread. Looking forwards to reading from you, With my best and friendly regards Martin

Glad to hear you are well. Great informative video as usual John. Packhorse bridge scene in the Lake District would be a good subject.

I'm a beginner and thought I'd at least be able to draw a stone wall. Boy, was I wrong about that! Is there a trick to shaping them? Glad you on the mend. Thanks for the efforts to share when you still recovering

Hardly ever… animals aren’t really my forte: if I do, they end up looking cartoony 😝
