Was helping a customer set his up with my distributor and referred him to this video. Discovered your timing tape marks in the video are backwards. Crank rotates CW so 45* BTDC(Before Top Dead center) will hit 0* (Top Dead Center) first. Then continue rotating CW to 30*, 15* and then the 0 lines up. So the crank marks will be opposite of the timing cover. Seems a little confusing until you think about what the piston is doing in relation to the timing marks. HTH.

You are as usual 100% correct Bill. I did for the video put the sticker on the wrong side of the dampner.

Good Job Jeff. Couple Notes. 1. A gear reduction starter may turn the engine slower which can cause the need to close up the gap on the pickup. 2. When doing the static timing checks, don't forget to raise rpm to see if the timing drifts off the 15*. If it does, there's procedures for adjusting the delay in the software to correct it. I always need to adjust it on my installs. This can affect about 3-4* of timing at rpm.

Great vid Jeff! Nice to hear someone say you can keep an IH alive over the stock timing. I'm running a gold box dissy converted to using a mopar hall effect sensor, ford reluctor trigger using a gm hei module on my Scout/345. Timing set at 17. Wondering why holly sets the air gap at 15 degrees? I played with my system, .006 up to .010. Engine liked .08 the best?. I also phase every distributor I install. It's a no brainer if its hall effect trigger. Look forward to chatting with you this summer at an IH event in a hotel parking lot over a refreshment.😊

Yes we do recommend Holley Sniper over Howell. Sniper is a much more modern system that is more user friendly and tune-able versus the older GM throttle bodies that Howell sells. We sell Holley Sniper products here at IH Parts America as well as several other parts that make installation a little easier on an IH. Check our webstore for what we have or feel free to contact our sales department for info. 530-274-1795

Awesome stuff, I like my sniper a lot but it’s just fuel, thinking about going timing control next and this was very informative!

The quick start instructions dont give instructions on timing control for the Atomic 2 which has the same ECU, and found your video has helped me very much. Thank you.

Any customers run this setup and the 700r4 conversion report back with fuel efficiency? I know there’s a ton of variables but curious. Also know the cold starts are awesome for snipers
