My favorite line of the day: "Off our plate and onto our face" :-D I wasn't aware of the specific benefits of the fruits and vegetables to the skin. The pureed carrots really add a beautiful color as well and I found the cornstarch information especially interesting. Another great class, Catherine.
Thank you so much for this video! I am just getting into making my own soaps and i am still figuring out how much of what and when lol this is a HUGE help by letting me know that i can use these things and how
@MsVcraft Absolutely! Just be sure to chill or freeze the milk first so that it does not burn from the lye. Also, milk soaps should not be insulated as they have a tendency to overheat.
Great class teach ! Super informative. Had no idea about adding cornstarch. Besides being easier to come by than clay its much less expensive. I have made soaps with Budweiser, Rickards Red & Corona beers after letting them go flatan open jug for a few days & stirring. No boiling. No dryness whatsoever in the bars. Rich luscious lather - great soap. Made the mistake of topping the Corona soap with coarse sea salt & it drew moisture to it for a long time, had to keep under a fan for weeks
Thank you so much. I really really enjoy your video n above all I have learnt a lot. I do love the way you explain the additive n how to incooperate it in the soaps. Thank you. Looking forward to see more
While I do enjoy your videos, many of them have such a low volume output that I cannot hear what you are explaining. I am unsure which video conversion program you use however it should have some type of control to allow you to increase the volume without affecting the video. Other than that small technical problem, the videos are great...just getting tired of putting my ear up to my laptop speakers to hear what you are saying.
I really enjoyed this video, but the sound quality is quite low. It is very hard to hear you with volume at 100%. I did not find this issue on the previous videos. All in all, I love your knowledge and the simplistic way of teaching. Thank you
love your videos very much! just saved myself time, money, and heartache by rewatching your video on oils and superfatting. I was delightex to read about the canola, though my recipe had a lot more olive oil, and some. coconut, I did include s percentage of canola, a high quality one, for its specific qualities, like vitamin e, and vitamin c.... and did soap calc, etc. I thought it would never come to trace. I read your chart on oils, especially canola, and voila!! I got the answer I was looking for, and my soap was saved, and it looks really nice! Oh the joys of calculating your own soap recipes... :) p.s.I superfatted with a beautiful avacado oil... Thank you very much, I appreciate your videos soo much! ♡ xo
@kupunaandmapuana Most all CP soaps do not require a preservative. Arrowroot powder can be exchanged for cornstarch in cooking but not advisable in soapmaking. Arrowroot thickens at a lower temperature and overheating tends to break down its properties. And yes absolutely, you can use carrot juice in place of pureed carrots.
@wdbreezy I love making and using carrot soap! Just not a big fan of eating them. My grandma would tell me that carrots would make my eyes blue + my hair curly. I always wanted straight hair so I thought by boycotting the carrot consumption it would miraculously straighten out... yup, still have the curls :)
thank you so much... I want to make a carrot yogurt soap and just wanted to be sure I was formulating it right before I did it ... thank you for all your videos ... Kim :)
I have a question. When using pureed carrots, would we include the measurement in our total liquids? The same question for yogurt. Or would we add yogurt like superfatting after trace and not count it in our calculations? Thanks so much. I would love to see how you might use lanolin in a soap :)
Hello Soaping 101: Thank you so much for your classess, Im kinda new at soaping ,trying to get a good recipe that I like, and im trying another one today with the corn starch in it. Wish me luck!!!! I will let you know in class next week!!! LOL :) have a nice day...
I was going to ask exactly same question as hickster777 :) are you suggesting that water can be replaced with milk completely? For example if a lye calculator states 150grams of water, this could be replaced with 150grams of goats milk? Thanks!
@805Soap Please let us know how the cornstarch works for you. ***Phil may have been late but he made the teacher smile. So Phil gets a gold star on his forehead! :)
Thk u 4 the classes; very informative. My question is in regards to the cornstarch; cornstarch is to be added a little at a time to R/T lye water? 1t per pound- of lye water? So if my recipe asks for 8oz liquid, should i add 1/2-t of cornstarch to the R/T lye?
were you heating it up ? i was a bit confused , maybe my hearings were not good enough ... pls provide the written version of the ingredients added, so that it could be clear, coz sometimes pronunciation amongst us across the globe differs...tq
First, I want to appreciate 4 this helpful video . I wonder how people sell sandalwood soap and it's smell is really grate. How is it possible? I made my 1 lb soap and added 17 oz sandalwood but it was not small like sandalwood . What can I do to add cornstarch or add sandalwood powder with sandalwood EO?
Can you only add cornstarch to your lye water at room temperature? What if you soap a little hotter than room temperature? Is there another way to add it like after trace? Thanks!!
when using a room temperature lye solution to mix in additives, do you have to heat it back up before mixing the oils? or let the oils cool down to room temp? and wouldn't room temperature oils be too solid? as i learned, the oils and lye solution should be the same temp, how does this work????
I usually soap around 100 degrees. If adding the starch to room temp water is best, how will soaping at room temp affect my soap? Should my oils and my lye solution both be at room temp.
I Live in the U.S California. I paid $20 for 5 ml or 17 oz The brand name is Eden’s Garden. I could have bought it cheaper than $20. I saw it at even $12 for 5ml. There is many fake sandalwood Eos,because they have to wait 10 years to cut sandalwood trees. You don't have to buy the most expensive one for soap . If I wanted to start my soap business even $12 is a big expense for 4 5ml sandalwood EO.
