Apple lost me when I took my Ipod Video with a cracked screen and they did not even attempt a repair. Matter of fact they refused to repair it at all. They said I could trade it in for a credit towards a bee one and only pay 375 instead of 400 for a new one. I ordered a new screen online for 20 replaced it myself in 15 minutes. That was the beginning of the end with my relationship with apple.
@CoolKoon
@CoolKoon 4 года назад
And how cracked was the screen? Did it look like a spiderweb? Because in that case no sane repair technician would want to have anything to do with it.

@@isaiahoconnor8236 That's not what I mean. The problem with completely shattered displays is that it means that the phone has sustained quite a heavy damage which could've affected the PCB as well (the density and the amount of layers on those things is pure madness). In such cases a hidden, tiny crack might develop on the PCB which might expand and cause the phone to die just out of the blue at any time (such damage CANNOT be repaired), even while in the repair technician's hands. Yes, you knew that the damage wasn't too bad, but the technicians don't (and remember, the customer ALWAYS lies). So you've swapped out the screen to some aftermarket and it worked. But professional shops are not gonna risk it.

The people you were talking about are fanatics, there is no other name for this type of attitude. We all know where fanatism starts from. It stems the inability to admit one's own mistakes. The underlying cause is that the person is very fragile and lacks trust in their own inner core to such a level that they are into *believing* stuff instead of using their own common sense to analyze facts -and modify their conclusions as new facts come to their attention. That's what fanatism, prejudice and bigotry are all about. * The corollary: nobody's fail-proof, nobody has the right analysis all the time, this is about adjusting to facts and reality, all the time.

So what does these firms do to trick kids? You make them able to "earn" points(IE you dont pay them in actual money) that they can spend on various things...one product category that is very popular is....APPLE PRODUCTS! I watched the original and found it to be an example of very good investigative journalism. This follow-up is quite brilliant. Especially your final comments about '...if Apple started treating their customers properly..." Great stuff. Oh, I am not an Apple person. I worked in a university environment many years ago and had to know Macs and PCs (I was an IT admin type person), and I lived in a household for a while that were all Mac/iPhone users...and I became the deFacto troubleshooter. But other than that, my knowledge is minimal at best. However, based on my experience with Apple, I wouldn't want to do business with them as a customer.

Back in 2000-ish, I worked tech support for Canada's largest telecom, Bell. During my initial training, we were taught that tech support is a huge expense for the telecom, so to offset that, we had to upsell unnecessary and unrelated upgrades to the customers. Fixing the customer issue took a back seat to whoever had the best sales stats.

Two months ago there was one guy who watched these videos. Since then he has spread it to me, and several others, and I have spread it to my family and several others myself. The support for right to repair increased 12 times over in my small circle of friends and family. Everyone I have decribed this issue to has understood the problem, and understood the solution. The right to repair movement is picking up speed, while the insular Apple brand loyalty culture is corroding. If right to repair becomes law, it could really change the economy is some massively positive ways. And as an extra bonus, reduce waste, which will help the environment. It crazy how one man, and person to person conversation can overpower the most powerful corporation in the world.

What does it matter how it got bent. In this experiment we were testing Apples willingness/ability/honesty when it comes to repairing machines. How the machine got broken is irrelevant. The conclusion is Apple tried to charge $1200 for a fix that someone else could do nearly for free.

Is Blackberry 100% black? When I was a child, I had a cat, Oliver, who was 100% black: even his whiskers and the fur between his toes was black (as were his toes). We lived beside a farm with oodles of barn cats (none of whom could compete with Ollie who was a very large, well fed cat). He still had his balls, so... lots of black cats started appearing, but to my knowledge they weren't 100% black like Ollie was, although quite a few were close. After 4 years living beside the farm, we moved 24 miles away. Oliver disappeared as soon as he was let outside. I was away for a couple of months during the move, so was unaware of his disappearance until months later when my mother admitted it when I asked where he was. I'm guessing he ran back to the farm. Either that or my mother had him put down which believe it or not was well within her ability and temperament - Oliver hated her (she would try to dominate him by picking him up and squishing him to prevent him from getting out of her grip which always ended up with her being scratched and/or bitten), and she worked at a veterinary college.

CBC does do hit pieces on various types of service and repair companies to see who is honest and who is not. They will often have a pro create a minor issue and then see what various repair people diagnose and quote for the work. However, they usually give the offender a chance to respond before breaking it to them it was a setup. So not unreasonable to think you may have cooperated and bent a pin. I saw the video though and it was not how CBC does their intentional hit pieces. PS - they do tend to have a lefty bias on politics, but they also do some really good journalism that we don’t often see in other countries, including our own.

Well I can tell you this. Employees are to deny any wrongdoing even if it’s absolutely obvious that they’re at fault. watchOS 5 bricked my watch and the geniuses acted like they never heard of it. Funny thing was there were four other people in line behind me for the same issue. Also when I got the watch back they said they couldn’t find anything wrong with it and just sent it back to me. I asked the Genius Bar, so how did watchOS 5 get on my watch then if there wasn’t anything wrong? Just got the usual song and dance.

Here in Canada, CBC is our public broadcaster paid for by taxpayers. As you’ve experienced, they hold journalistic integrity in high regard. They are and always have been centrist. Currently in Canada there is an American CONservative owned media organization called Post Media, which now owns about 75% of all media content in Canada thanks to the previous Canadian CONservative gov’t which Canadians overwhelmingly rejected...again. There is a concerted effort by American owned Post Media, American CONservatives, & Canadian CONservatives to eradicate all Canadian content from Canadian airwaves by attempting to discredit CBC at every word in order to turn the Canadian public against CBC good reporting. Oddly (Not really), whenever they do a piece on CON politicians corruption, and there’s a lot, or corporate malfeasance, the hordes come out, like cattle at feed time, bawling “FAKE NEWS!!” Almost as if they were paid. This is synonymously used with Canadian CONservatives when the truth is actually exposed.

Hello Louis, Thanks for the story. I am from Canada and watch CBC. CBC does try to find the truth, I did watch that show and I agree with the findings. I have also requested support from Apple sometimes it is great and other times they sucks. The worst case was trying to fix a cracked face on a apple watch. the best was when my old iPhone 7 had a bad battery and they gave me a new phone for the cost of a battery replacement.

I never understand how it is that we are all consumers yet we all seem to love the companies instead of the consumer. Somone has to explain to me how they round that square. particularly companies like apple that pride themselves on being overpriced and while providing terrible service and products that break MORE frequently than than their competition. This comment brought to you on my old desktop that is 10 years old and never broke once, just like the last one I owned, hell even that one still works it's just so outdated now (windows 95). I'm cool with someone preferring to use Apple but don't dare defend their business practices. Non comparability, deliberate short lifespan to force more purchases, ridiculous pricing. You may love Apple but they opviously don't ike you.
@nunyaalex4060
@nunyaalex4060 4 года назад
Let's just say Louis bent the pin before CBC brought it to apple what difference does that make? It doesn't change the story at all, you brought an easily fixable item to a tech and they told you it wasn't easily fixable. How it got broke shouldn't matter, am I missing something?
@dusaprukiyathan1613
@dusaprukiyathan1613 2 года назад
What you're missing is probably that you're trying to actually argue the point. I think it's a fake point, to mask the actual point: "stop saying I'm wrong and am being scammed right now. I don't like that because it feels like it's my fault for falling for it." Of course, I'm not and never have been one of these people, but this is my guess. Either way, yeah it shouldn't matter. As he said in the video, if he was actually trying to do something like that he wouldn't have done something obvious enough that you can just look at it, go "hmm that looks bent, I wonder if I can unbend it", and then it works.

I hate Crapple and their products because of their business practices. They don't care about the consumer and repairability, and they charge ridiculous amounts of money for shoddy products that break. I'd love to continue seeing people who buy apple products fork out all that money on repairs or replacements, but realistically i also have to advocate for repairability laws, etc, because first apple will get away with it, then some other companies will start thinking it's a great idea too and i really don't want that

The diffrence is any dummy with a wrench can take parts off and see which one is fucked. if they didn't want me inside, they wouldn't have put bolts right? That's not the case with electronics, for example glued in batteries, well now i need a special tool or heat to take the battery off. Or Soldered on important components. Also another issue with electronics is that there's no real maintenance for them, a lot of electronics fail because solder joints expand and contract over time and break, that's just how they are which is why i called them inherently unreliable. With say cars, you can throw in some lower weight oil in the winter or some higher weight stuff in the summer, you can do something to prevent damage. I mean i dunno much about british cars, but the triumphs drink a lot of oil and spill coolant. But that's not a big deal, you just top it up and keep going, it won't cause damage unless you let it run out. Oldest car i've personally ever owned was a Buick Le-Sabre from 1985. That thing was wonderful with a carbuerated v8 and a 3 speed automatic, never had trouble overtaking on the highway. It was my aunts car, and she never cared for it very well, so i had to junk it when it started collapsing from rust. The oldest my family owned was either a 70s Suzuki Carry pickup with a 2 stroke 3 cylinder, or a 70s corrola. Both where bomb proof, the odometer had rolled over on the Suzuki and the corrola was in the high 600s as i remember. This was in Pakistan and to this day these old cars are on the road. You can go to Pakistan right now and find a first or second generation Corrola or Nissan Sunny driving around.

Some Apple customers are an example of how smart people can be so dumb. No large corporation that is publicly traded really care about their customers. If they have a good customer service policy and execution, it is because they think it will maximize their profits, not because they care about the customer. In Apple's case, they really don't care about the customer and they want to maximize their profits. There's nothing wrong with maximizing profits, but Apple's business model is particularly insidious in its exploitation of customer goodwill. As a side point, I found it very interesting that the moisture ingress detectors do not necessarily indicate water damage that should void a warranty. What you need is to establish actual water damage and corrosion. The indicators really just indicate the possibility of water damage, not actual water damage. This being the case, it's another thing that legislation directed towards standard protections for consumers should address.

What do you think will happen to the cold MacBook? People put coasters under their drinks with ice, but they will not let the MacBook warm up before turning it on.

Canadian here...I don't really follow CBC much, but it is safe to say that they are neutral compared to Fox or CNN. At least they try to show both sides. That being said, they are somewhat left-leaning. This is more as a result of the biases of many CBC reporters, rather than a systemic issue.

"Somewhat left leaning" that's putting it lightly. In honesty they lean wherever their funding comes from which is understandable, when Harper was here they had a rightish lean, but as of late, since a year before the second election they've taken an almost hardliner left stance. It's disturbing because they are ultimately publicly funded.
