I am a middle-eastern-looking guy living in Germany for almost a year now and I come from a majority-muslim country, but I am an atheist. And while being here, I have seen people from both sides of the spectrum I believe: There are muslims living here for almost their whole life and still not integrated fully into the society, people who find the meaning for their life in religion, and they are not necessarily bad people. Some of those people dislike Germany, despite that they lived here for a long time. I spoke with one guy and was trying to understand the source of this animosity and there are two reasons: he is a muslim and doesn't accept anything but what the religion preaches, but the other reason is he was not accepted here in some sense. And to be honest these types of people I would not want in my country if I was German. And there have been people who were not respectful because I assume they just assigned me to that cologne-event-typeof guy. All in all though I would really like for this country to stay culturally the way it is, because I am probably biased and don't like the muslim side of any culture, especially taken too seriously. The problem with people with strong muslim beliefs is the lack of respect for women in their culture, because of the religion. IMHO both Christianity and Islam cannot be taken seriously and most of the people living in Europe learned that about their religion I think. My country: Azerbaijan was and is muslim-majority, when we gained independence in 1918 from Russian Empire we granted women right to vote, before USA and most other countries in the world, women could elect and be elected. However this was because of the decisions of the elite, even at those times we had great satirists criticising the religion because of its backwardness. This is to the point that religion should not be taken seriously. Love your content, keep up the good work.

Rahim Mammadli You forgot to mention it was because of the Soviet government those female emancipation laws were brought in Azerbaijan.
@PascalKeys
@PascalKeys 6 лет назад
Not true, Soviets invaded two years later, who knows where we would have been now if that invasion did not occur. Universal suffrage was introduced in Azerbaijan in 1918 by the Azerbaijan Democratic Republic, thus making Azerbaijan the first Muslim-majority country ever to enfranchise women.

+Rahim Mammadli thank you Rahim for sharing your experiences. I am personally not a big fan of religions and I found it interesting to hear in the interview that the importance of religion is going down more or less everywhere. I believe in a rather secular society that believes in sciences and academics rather than in myths. I do however have a big respect for religious people (as long as they do not intend to missionise anyone :) - I have many friends who are believers of the Christian and Muslim faith (some other religions too) and I am also a big fan of respect and the freedom of choice. Unfortunately there is still a lot of racism in Germany against Muslims (and anyone who is perceived as Muslim) which can also be seen in the comments here. That's really crazy to me and I believe it's the result of a lack of contact between people of different cultures. That's something that makes me really sad. Liebe Grüße cari

They should screen everyone individually to see who should be allowed in. Only allow people in if they genuinely want to integrate. They need to see the law of Germany first before Sharia. I don't care if they believe in Sharia or Muslim law but the law of whatever the country they migrate to must be the most important to them. These are the only two thing I think should be required.

Hello there ! I’m Italian, but i have to agree with you. I have the same view; all religions actually have lots of positive aspects to bring to a society, without removing anything to the existing historical culture. I have lots of muslim friends who are true italian patriots now, their religions similar to christianity promotes values of truth, charity and integrity on behaviour. The rest is in the private life, and that’s fine. We should truly not fall i to the trap of mixing immigration (which is a political phenomenon), islam (a religion): and the muslims (individuals which come in all varieties, levels of commitments, and with individual traits just as any other earthling). I believe if they come in small numbers, with an education to inclusive national pride, while encouraging our own birth rates; there is no reason for any unnecessary civil war which will only benefit to some occult political manipulators.

The term "refugee" generally implies a temporary asylum status. Now that the situations in most refugees' homelands have vastly improved (recent gains in Syria, for example), is there a schedule for return?
@EasyGerman
@EasyGerman 6 лет назад
Of course they are scheduled for return. Most of the refugees that have been approved to stay have been granted asylum status between 12 and 36 months and they are then being extended. The thing is though that the situation in Syria has not improved. :-/
@diariodeumcasalviking5425
@diariodeumcasalviking5425 6 лет назад
That's their plan, unfortunately. Extend until you have enough time to be a citizen. The situation has indeed improved. I personally know people who are NOT refugees and decided to go back anyway, because it's a lot better than it was in 2015/16.

Just because Isis is losing the war doesn't mean things are good or improving. Have you seen images of bombed Syrian cities? It will take decades to rebuild that until Syria becomes a functioning State. Just because the terrorists are gone doesn't mean it's now "suitable for living".

I think it's different in different areas of each country, if that country even allows them such as Poland and Hungary not letting any illegals in. So like places such as capital cities will be hit hardest and because they are already diverse people don't really say anything about refugees or migrants coming or committing any crime. So I think it's more of a problem in big cities than smaller ones

I gratefully found your channel and have been watching your videos for a few weeks now and find the content helpful for German learning, as well as inspiring personally to see all the friendly people both conducting interviews and participating by answering the questions. Cari and Janusch seem like great people who would quickly become two of your best friends, if you were to meet them and live nearby. I recently remembered the terrible events of the New Years celebration in Cologne and the unfortunate manner in which German media remained silent on the events due to uncertainty in how to proceed from such a shocking and horrible event and the touchy topic of migrant or refugee persons committing mass sexual assaults. I have spent the last two days reading and watching documentary footage and interviews with people affected by this event and the ongoing problem of assault and harassment which appears to have led to a big change in how people view and experience their ability to participate in civic life in Germany. I have already experienced all the gender-based harassment and sexual violence for my lifetime, living in the US (in Chicago in particular). Therefore whenever I consider traveling to a new place I give a lot of consideration to what the situation is regarding harassment toward non-heterosexuals and non-men and it is irreplaceable as an important factor in how I gauge quality of life. My friend who is in graduate school here in the US is from Germany and would like me to visit her in Berlin next year and the thought is on my mind to maybe even consider one day relocating to Germany since the particular form of US capitalism is very inhumane, as well as the overall political and cultural climate in the US is one I'm growing quite tired of and would like to experience another country. I am eventually getting to a question here, I just wanted to provide some context! =P My question is, ultimately, from the perspective of people's daily life experiences in Germany - Is harassment on the basis of non-male gender and non-heterosexual orientation a daily experience? Do non-men feel like they'd rather stay inside rather than face harassment should they go out? Do you know of some places which are better than others? I have complex PTSD issues stemming from sexual violence and daily harassment is not something that I could withstand at all - it throws me into classic PTSD symptoms (pounding heart, racing thoughts, heavy breathing, panic, etc). Anyone who lives in Germany please comment your thoughts and/or experiences. Thank you Cari and Janusch for a lovely channel.

I live in Canada. We are also facing an influx of refugees and immigrants from Africa and Asia. I have observed that the Canadian public generally wants to help refugees, but is afraid that we will be overwhelmed by cultural changes in the coming decades. The face of Canada in urban areas is no longer White Anglo Saxon. Over 100 different languages are now spoken in Toronto. Rural areas are still predominantly populated by people of British origin. So I can see an ever greater political divide between rural and urban areas. My family immigrated to Canada 60 years ago from Germany. We faced a lot of discrimination, especially in the beginning. I can see the same thing happening with today's immigrants and refugees. The difference is, that we were able to integrate into the existing culture much more easily than today's newcomers, partially for cultural reasons, and partially because they are so called "visible minorities". It is human nature to want to stay within your own tribe, and to exclude the "other"'. Immigrants and refugees are therefore seen as both a blessing and a curse. They are necessary to provide provide younger people to work in the economy, because the birth rate among the existing population is too low and our population on the whole is aging. On the other hand, they represent a changeing society, and people generally don't like change. We existing Canadians have to be mature enough to realize that this change is both necessary and inevitable. We need the influx of young people and a higher birth rate. And with climate change and wars the refugees/immigrants need a place to live. We need to find a way to have this influx of people to be handled in an open and welcoming way. To educate them in the values of respect and tolerance for others, and to obey our laws and not bring the conflicts of the old country with them. So far, with few exceptions, this experiment is successful. Each wave of immigrants had a difficult time at first, They gradually integrated, and then the cycle starts all over again with the next wave. It seems to me that our concept of multiculturalism facilitates this. On the global front I see a similar pattern happening. Although there will always be extreme nationalists that want to start some kind of conflict, on the whole, I have the sense that Germany and other European countries are generally coping adequately with the high rate of refugees and immigration. There will be changes in the society, of course, but if it is maturely and thoughfully managed, I think integration will be successful. From my perspective here in Canada, it seems to me that Germany in general and particularly Berlin, for example, is very cosmopolitan where generally, people from all backgrounds live and work together quite well. I can forsee an area of difficulty in Great Britain, however, which is trying to isolate itself and 50% of the population is xenophobic and wants to remain staunchly British. The result is Brexit, which, given the aging population, along with the global climactic and political situations, is unsustainable and will probably result in major conflicts in the long run. Unless there is a huge political change in the USA, they will also experience elevated racial tension. Sorry for the long winded comment, but I feel this is a complicated global issue.

It was great to get an insight from someone proclaimed by the educational system as an expert. It would be great for you to progress to carry out one of your typical videos on the streets asking people about their fears regarding Islamisation or some more abstract questions, designed to get a more truthful answer. It was unfortunate that, whilst Herr Oltmerr was willing to deny or downplay any publicly proclaimed worries or factual questions, he did not present any statistics or facts that have certainly contributed to an increase in scepticism and public concern, thus allowing us to find out why we are becoming worried and what we are noticing in particular.

We did ask this question before: ru-vid.com/video/%D0%B2%D0%B8%D0%B4%D0%B5%D0%BE-yanc4sZuaPE.html And why would you think that Mr Oltmer wasn't presenting any statistics or facts.
@lewiswells4255
@lewiswells4255 6 лет назад
Oh wow that's great I had no idea, I will be sure to check that out. Having read over what I wrote, I forgot to enclose something else, by which I mean that there was an absence of Mr Oltmer quoting from other companies, or people, aside from a few, distinguishing himself as likely very self-aware and having developed this information himself, which is most likely the case, which presents itself as a factor of the matter: unless you are perhaps professionally involved with the matter at hand, one might not know all this information, and thus these videos are of best help to people who search for that information. I'm hopeful you can produce more like this, in der Zukunft! Vielen Dank :)

If Easy German wants to really be neutral and informative they should interview both sides. They always interview the same kind of Pro-European Union+ Pro-Refugees people and try to show it like it is the only opinion. It seems like Cari is too afraid to find out or to even try to understand the other side. In my country we call that ignorance and fear, I call it self censorship.

We go out every week and talk to people in the streets. So far we just haven't met any AFD supporter, however we had people in our videos who were critical about the EU and about integration. This was not a big number of people, but these people do also not represent a bigger number in Germany. There are of course reasons why AFD voters have not been seen yet on Easy German: 1) they are less represented in the places where we go to. AFD supporters are usually more represented outside of the bigger city centers. 2) many of those people who vote for the AFD do not want to talk to cameras as they have a general hate agains "the media". So about 50-60% of all people we approach don't want to speak to us at all - maybe there are some of those people among them. 3) They are not representing a large number overall. 89% of all Germans did not vote for AFD. So it's obviously already harder to find those people. The idea that we censor our interviews or kick out people from our interviews who do not share our opinion has been brought up many times here in the comments, but it's simply not true.

So you basically wait for some AfD supporter to show up and say "Hey, I support this party, talk to me" , but you DID the work to search this "Expert" and interviewed him. Like I said, if you really want to be neutral, you would search anyone with another point of view. It is so funny that you are the kind of people who brag about how you defend and love minorities but at the same time you reject to interview a minority because "It was just 12% of germans, they don't matter". You go to Namibia to make a video, but now it is to difficult for you to go to Sachsen. It's called BIAS.

Former smokers are way nastier to current smokers than non smokers. America is a land populated by generations of refugees and so it’s naturally vicious about current refugees. The hypocrisy is breathtaking. My grandfather was, effectively, an economic refugee. He left Finland in the late nineteenth century. And although he lived here for nearly a half century, he never properly learned English because his wife and kids were bilingual and he lived in a small farming community. Whenever I see someone - particularly an older person - struggling with English, I see my grandfather. I always find a kind word, generally in their own language, to send their way.

At the Orientirungskurs from 16 we bacame 6-7 everyday. I just noticed some of my classmates are always krank and have a paper to give to the Lehrerin from Artz? I don't think if it's true cause some of them I would even bump around at a Kaufhaus or spazieren gehen smoking like a not sick at all partying 🤭 I know it's boring the Orientirungskurs but as the day goes by during it I realized why it's sehr wichtig as much as learning the language. Plus(as a foreigner) I cannot mess it up because for me it's not free! I observed many of them my classmates are not interested. I'll just not mention from where lol. They could be from different places. But it's the reality there's a problem. I see with my own eyes 👀 Try to deny it all we want but.. But and many buts. 🤭🤐

Actually there are differences between races. There are huge physical differences in bones, muscles fibers, enzymes and for example doctors treat any race differently. ( for example you can try to find something about osteoporosis in white race and other races) ( it's just a fact). ( so why do you think there are no psychical differences? ) of course they are here, that's why there are so many problems with Africans. So you can write that I'm a racist but at least I'm not liar...

With physical differences? With different types of muscle fibers? With difference of prevalence of some diseases? With different medical approach to different race? Read about that. That is not lie at all. I study medicine.

Ok, ok... There are differencies in mentalitiy between peoples of different countries, we know that. But, when it comes to psychological traites, there is no scientific evidence, that special psychological traites are correlated to races. I studied psychology and I never heard of such correlations. So you cannot compare physical variables with psychological variables. There ist just no scientific proof for such correlation between psychological traits and races.

Should America (and the Americas) “return” all of the refugees from 1848-9 to Europe? If so, then we can talk about returning Syrians where they come from. If you’ve worked or lived with any Syrians you quickly find out that they are dynamic, open minded, energetic people who have the potentialto help DE boom. In the United States, Syrians are model citizens. The issue is about self confidence. The home of Kant Goethe Hegel Marx....should be sure enough of itself to know I will more than do fine, but rather thrive with a bit more color a bit more diversity. Germany was not even a single country until not long ago. Again, history serves the best lesson

Terrible way of aproaching the subject. This guy not only forgets about the NO-GO zones in Germany which have become another countries inside Germany where germans themselves do not feel safe because of the muslim/refuggies communities, but also about the continuous attacks german people suffer from migrants themsleves like what happen in Cologne. I guess polititians and academics are still afraid of the "political correct" of protecting their own people from others who DO NOT integrate. They prefer to go easy on refuggies and let them dominate and do whatever they want with your culture. You guys from Easy German clearly did not know how to aproach the subject either. Always going easy, not talking about the problems migration is creating on your own country. Pity.
@EasyGerman
@EasyGerman 6 лет назад
I would be interested to see these No go zones you are talking about. Maybe we can go there together one day. Seriously, I know that people who look different from you might all look fearful to you sometimes, but we must also look twice sometimes and check if all the things we hear are really true and if everyone who looks different is really the same person. What happened in Cologne on New Years Eve 2015 was terrible and isn't denied by anyone here. We must still see though that a few hundred criminals do not stand for a group of almost 1 million people whom they share nothing with but their legal status (in most cases not even that). So why would hundred thousands of Syrians and Iraqis constantly need to apologise for a group of a few hundred people who committed crimes 2 years ago? This doesn't make sense. Pity that you can't make a difference between large numbers of people who have nothing in common.
@yufeng737

I understand that many refugees are non-violent people, but still it is human nature for people to prefer living among people of the same ethnicity. Chinese want to live in a Chinese-dominated country, Japanese want to live in a Japanese-dominated country, Indians want to live in a Indian-dominated country, and if German want to live in a country where German is clear majority, it is not racist for German to have such preference. It is just human nature, and we should respect that.
@jameslee899
@jameslee899 6 лет назад
So why does Germany still have to apologize and feel shame ? Why ? Because of WWII and Nazies ?! Non Sense. This doesn't make sense either. No one needs to apologize for their history, especially future generations who have played no part in it. But try telling that to Angela Merkel. Easy German has become a politically correct mouth piece for politically correct narratives because they are petrified of being labeled "RACIST". Everyone is racist if you don't fit and conform to the Global Agenda which is mass immigration, the end of sovereignty, and every European nation "diverse" and "vibrant".
@EasyGerman
@EasyGerman 6 лет назад
@Brendan Jacobi: Who exactly is "They". The main problem in such discussions is, there is no "they". @Yu Feng. No one is threatening Germany. There is 80 Million people in Germany. Even if all of the recently arrived 1 million refugees would stay in Germany (which is not the case), they would not change the German population. So I do not understand where these kind of fears come from. You see however where these crazy fears lead too. To comments like the ones from Benny. He judges the IQ of people by their heritage. That is clearly racist.
@Fancymanofthedeep
@Fancymanofthedeep 6 лет назад
@Easy German, I'll tell you where my fears come from. I'm Jewish and have seen Muslim opinion-poll statistics from reliable organizations like the Wissenschaft Berlin für Sozialforschung and they clearly show high antisemitism, sexism, and homophobia among many European Muslims, way beyond the rates of native Germans (Even if there are issues there as well no doubt). i also saw a poll done for the Austrian newspaper Der Standard which showed that 23% of Muslims in homes where German is spoken don't trust Jews and 48% for Muslims in homes where their native language is spoken. I hate Neo-Nazis and racists of all kinds but I also hate hardcore conservative opinions from many Muslims and I feel that this video completely overshadows those concerns. Besides what about all the terrorism and terrorist arrests happening? What of the many questionable Islamic organizations in Germany? Like the one funded by Turkey which the German government stopped endorsing. And don't forgot those horrid antisemitic protests against Israel in 2014 with German Muslims committing many antisemitic crimes. I also don't get your "expert's" first response on how migrants get reported more when it comes to crimes as he leaves out the fact that the victims of most migrant crimes are other migrants in refugee centers so the criminals are easy to identify. Their crimes are indeed disproportionate when one examines migrant crime rates in the Federal and State crime statistics. For example I believe that in Baden-Wurttemberg 9% of reported sexual assaults were done by migrants and 15% of the rapes were by migrants. Also Migrants often harm each other in those over packed accommodations because Germany let too many in. Btw you can't just mention Cologne alone there have been so many sexual assault incidents beyond that event. I follow a blog which compiles German news reports, from real news organizations (I always check to make sure), and yes there are serious issues happening. Many of the refugees aren't even refugees according to Frontex the official border agency of the EU. Easy German, I like you guys and your hard work to spread the German language but on this topic I think you're way out of your league and are creating simplistic straw man arguments that are easy to knock down without addressing more nuanced concerns about immigration. I recommend thinkers like Ayaan Hirsi Ali, Maajid Nawaz, and Douglas Murray on this subject. Don't get me wrong I want actual refugees to be helped but I think you guys let too many in.
