Unlike one or two other commentators throughout the country these people have done their homework. Ian Smith, a lengthy but pertinent address. Lovely tribute to our fledgling WW2 veterans. A top commentary overall.

Today a quiet unassuming man did his last march today. This man needed assistance so a wheelchair was in order. He joined the army as an 18 year old. Before he knew it he was in Japan with BCOF. When the call came for volunteers to Korea he volunteered. He was with the first Australian contingent 3RAR C Company to land in Korea. In the few months he was there, he took part in battles, was in snow with no chance of showering, saw his mate KIA. His Colonel killed. Saw what Napalm and Phosphorus did to people. Fortunately he survived and was sent back to Japan and after 3 years overseas back to Australia. Was asked where he wanted to go and he asked to go back to Korea. Was told you've done your 3 years overseas. So he took position in Darwin as Colonels Driver & Other duties at Flagstaff House. Then married my Mum in SA. He then was posted to Swanbourne WA and Puckupunyel VIC then got out and settled us in SA. Never talked much about his Service particularly Korea. Only recent years he has spoken about it. He has a story to tell. A ground foot soldier who now after fighting off skin cancers and fungal toes and hearing loss has the biggest battle - Melanoma of liver. Wearing a beret only in Darwin, exposure to weather in Korea and goodness knows what exposure post Hiroshima in Japanese. He is our hero, whom we love dearly. Dad and Mum taught us about Respect, ANZAC, Hymns and bagpipes and military music etc . We are so proud of our humble Dad who has a story to tell. Thank you for your service to our country & Korea & Japan, James E Levett 1177 BCOF & 3RAR Korea.🇦🇺🇳🇿
