I did this trip in the 1980’s, but from Perth to Adelaide, via Esperance, Albany and Norseman. I took note of the distance 3400km. Virtually non stop. Part of it at night. Fuel and food stops approx every 250km. Pretty boring but worthwhile to complete a bucket list challenge. Hit by a sheep at midnight while still in WA, which took out the driver’s wing mirror. So glad to reach Port Augusta, knowing that Adelaide wasn’t too far to go. Some stunted trees both ends but virtually nothing in between. Lots of red dirt. Wouldn’t do it again but that was my Mt. Everest achievement. Cheers.

Hi, Glad you enjoyed it. I've done the trip a few times and you are right, there is not much to see. But I have family at both ends of the trip so I will be doing it several times more. Cheers.

I went from Sydney to Perth with my parents when I was ten, in the early 80's, in a mini! It is a road trip I'll never forget.

It definitely is unforgetable. I have done it a few times now (have family in Adelaide and Perth and Sydney) and I still enjoy each trip.

Informative and useful tips. Thanks. Do you think we can manage the road trip in a Mazda 3 or Corolla? After going from Perth to Adelaide, do we use the same road back home?
@DandGAtLarge0
@DandGAtLarge0 15 дней назад
Hi @yesyesleung222, a Mazda 3 or Corolla in good condition should be fine. The road is mostly a flat easy drive. I would pick a time of year when the temperature will not be too hot. The car engine will get quite hot (but still safe) sitting on high speeds for long periods. If it is 40 degrees outside then that just puts undue stress on the engine. There are basically only 3 roads across Australia: The Victoria Highway across the top from Darwin; the Gunbarrel Highway across the middle which is really just a dirt track for over 1,000 kilometres and is only suitable for 4 wheel drives; and the Eyre Highway. So yes, you do use the same road back home. Hope you have a safe and enjoyable trip.

Can you access internet or use phone data from ceduna to norseman?
@DandGAtLarge0
@DandGAtLarge0 7 месяцев назад
In some places like Mundrabilla we had no service at all. There is a tower at the top of Eucla pass which gives good service for some distance around there. I can’t remember which other places had good service and which didn’t. I guess the best idea is to assume that you will not have any connectivity along the way and to be organised to take advantage of it when you do.

Are there lots of Kangaroos to avoid on the roads? Is it safe to drive at night? How many days is reasonable for this trip?
@DandGAtLarge0
@DandGAtLarge0 4 месяца назад
Hi @newsgetsold Yes there are kangaroos especially at sunrise and sunset. I don't drive at night but have had a close call with emus when driving at dusk. You will see animals on the side of the road that have been hit by cars. Because the road is straight and flat you can generally stick at a constant speed throughout the trip. I usually take 4 days to do the trip Perth to Adeliade and sometimes 3 days for the Adelaide to Perth trip (because of the time difference you gain time when going west). Other do it faster. Cheers

Great video. Would it possible to do Adelaide to Perth on that road , in a diesel 4WD, with no camping gear or caravan, just using motels or cabins ?
@PortiasPics4680
@PortiasPics4680 9 месяцев назад
Yes. A lot of the roadhouses have cabins. Just phone ahead. Be prepared for very basic accommodation at high prices. You are in the middle of nowhere with no infrastructure so they have to bear all the costs.

Come East in 2005, there are changes now. l night we had to stop and sleep on the side of the road where there were bushes and a toilet only. They need more stop overs as you approach Norseman.

Yeah, more stopovers would be better. I have not stayed outside any of the villages...might do it one day!

Is there a priest, a church and a churchyard for normal European people "aus Tirol". I don't like these way of the Aussies😆 Stay there downunder.
@DandGAtLarge0
@DandGAtLarge0 10 месяцев назад
Greetings, It is less than 250 years since European settlement in Australia, so we do not have the religious history and heritage of Europe. However, Australia is a democratic, multi-cultural, secular nation that is the envy of many around the world. Most small towns, if they don’t have an actual church, do have a place for worship. Ceduna (pop. 2,000) has 6 Christian churches and Norseman (pop. 560) has 3 Christian churches. However, there is a stretch of road for 1,200 kilometres with a total population of maybe 1,000 people that, as far as I know, only has 1 actual church, the Lutheran church in the Yalata community.
