This was so interesting to watch. When you first started cutting down the seam, I was like what??? I was thinking you were going to repair the existing lining! how did you come up with that painter's tape idea? that's one of the best ideas I have ever seen. absolutely going to use it next time I have a shredded up reline
Kenneth D. King replies: "Just inspiration. I had the ragged pieces on the table, and after positioning the seam allowances to get the shape of the armhole, I looked up to see my roll of wide painters' tape. That seemed the best solution."
I bought a vintage coat that is faux cowhide black with swirls. The lining needs replaced, it also has a lining of insulation and I’m not sure if that needs replaced. You have inspired me to Bring it back to life. What material are you using for the lining?
Kenneth D. King replies: "I used a lining that was almost an exact match, both in surface texture and color. I wanted it to be as close to the original as I could get it."
If you are re-lining, replace the insulation as well. You can layer it with the lining pieces (called interlining) and treat the two pieces as one in construction. I see this done a lot with short-haired fur coats--the short hair isn't as warm as one might think.
