I shot this footage of these amazing creatures while flying a whale tagging team in the McMurdo Ice Shelf, Antarctica. Stream in HD for best viewing. (c) 2012
I love the Adelie penguins, theyre so small and adorable, and look at the way they walk! Emperor penguins are SOOO adorable too, I wanna hug them so bad, emperor chicks are really cute and fluffy!
They are small so they don't waste body heat on a larger surface, they don't have bluber to allow for higher body fat, let alone size. They are also so tough, cause otherwise they would have no way to defend themself, their living conditions are harsh and dangerous.
I think it's because they can't fly and they're not tiny compared to most birds. But it is weird but cool how pinguins are friendly towards us. Maybe they have never encountered a deadly land creature so they don't feel the instinct to run away?
They do still have to deal with threats such as Leopard Seals and Polar Bears, but they have never really had much experience with humans, while they do still have threats to worry about, humans are usually not one of them, they probably regard the people who come to snap pictures and video them as sort of odd watchers that sometimes like to get in close.
I love how the little Adelie penguins just shoot up out of the water. It is amazing that they have so much velocity that they can do that! Like living torpedos
I like the transition from the camera looking at the feisty Adelie penguins to the 3 emperor penguins that aren't even trying to live life anymore, I mean, the two are laying down on their bellies, immobile, and the emperor standing up is also, almost immobile.
Oh how I envy you. I dream of somehow going on a trip there to see the majestic Emperors and those adorable Adelies. I'm obsessed with penguins. Such beautiful birds!
They all went racing over to worship the great hel-eee-copt-aaaa, but of course it all immediately descended into theological bickering that will doubtless lead to violence.
