@@SeanShepherd-eh6cc havent the springboks lost to the all blacks many times? i dont watch rugby but the head to head looks heavily in the kiwi team favor
DDP wins because he doesn't get complacent, he is always tuned in and focused and adapts. Having a "style" can be a hindrance. DDP understands that he needs to be 100% activated for the 25 minutes of fighting he has to do. Many fighters leave mentally, DDP doesn't.
The fact Izzy couldn't hurt DDP also made it where he couldn't catch a break and coast when he wanted to. He did great when he was the one coming forward but we've never seen his gas tank under this kind of pace. Every time there was a momentum swing for DDP, Israel was getting hurt and also tired. Everytime Israel had the momentum, DDP was able to just weather the storm until he could reverse it.
Not to mention DDP has made his last 2 opponents cry in the pre fight pressers just by being honest to them. His opponents are beaten before they get in the ring.
DDP only landed 7 less strikes and Izzy, he didnt get out struck. He is just messy so it looks like he was losing the striking. DDP didnt get hurt once, Izzy was sliding all over the place.
You should listen to Niel Geyser, DDP's bjj coach about his philosophy. South Africa is violent place and attacks happen unexpectedly. He uses this in his bjj to his students. How to quickly react and submit a threat. You can see this in DDP's style. He goes straight for subs based on the scenario he is presented with in the moment.
@@flowhannesburg1912Riots, gang violence, criminals running rampant. There are 3 South African cities in the top 5 most violent cities in the world. Your football hooligans don't count 😂
I don't believe age played a factor. Just a bad matchup for Izzy. I noticed Izzy is a different fighter when you take away his leg kick game and have success beating up his legs. He tends to brawl more and looks beatable
@@mbbroker79Izzy may have got some momentum, but if he won round 4 , it would have been 2-2 on the judges scorecards going into the 5th... They judges gave Round 1 and 2 to DDP , and 3 to Izzy. So Izzy wasn't technically winning on the scorecards yet - he would have had to see out the rest of the 4th round better than DDP in order to tie it up going into the 5th... But that never happened . As Kanye West would say: "I guess we'll never know" 🇿🇦💪🏼😈👑
It must drain a lot out of his opponents when they think they’re doing damage and he just comes back over and over. I think the most overlooked thing is just how physically strong he must be.
DDP's style is actually an african style of fighting. It has a method to it, DDP is special in that he doesn't preplan combinations nor repeat them mindlessly. Izzy and Whittaker are guys who repeat combinations when they're working. DDP uses his left leg as a range finder and even counters the jab with a check hook. None of it looks pretty, but everything is really effective. I don't like people saying he isn't technical. He looks unusual and unco-ordinated is pretty solid everywhere and doesn't even get hit clean to the head.
I am a huge Dricus fan!! But .. what a beast is Dan Hooker! During his fight between rounds his face was heavily beaten and swolen .. was in his corner laughing telling his coach" Man I love this shit". Hahaha .. 😳🤣😅🤣😅
Du Plessis intentionally continues attacking after what would be the traditional “throw three strikes and pause” flow that 99% of fighters adhere to. He absolutely does not adhere to the “taking turns” ebb and flow sparring pace that most fighters train themselves to use in preparation for a fight. He has the exact same mentality in grappling as he does striking. His pace is 100% offense unless you can put him off his attack. And why shouldn’t it be? This is completely counter to the sparring style and mitt training and bag work of almost every fighter he comes up against- 95% of fight gyms. Combine this with his willingness to train for superior cardio, and you need to beat him with elite level counter punching, or matching aggression. He chooses full aggression, not a measured pace. He nearly takes the sporting aspect out of fighting and actually makes it a real fight. He does not “take turns.“ It’s a simple and effective as that, because almost everyone else in their training “takes turns.“
I totally agree with your perspective that dricus doesn’t go for position when he’s got you down and rocked, he goes straight for the submission. Straight for the kill. Honestly, this might sound dumb, but I like to think of dricus’s submissions as “executions” not submission. He is literally destroying people and putting them out for good the second they hit the ground. Fucking terrifying and beautiful to behold.
He lands in such a good position on these takedowns that as he looks to secure the position, he is usually threatening something else. He is forcing his opponents to pick between defending the position or defending the attack simultaneously
i usually highly respect joe Rogan, but joe has a major issue with recency bias. like wjyh adesanya, i recall him speaking like it was clearly obvious adesanya was better than anderson and thats def not close to true. andy went undefeated in his prime whereas now adesanya has lost 4
Who does Izzy represent?? Not even the African country of his birth or his country of residence sent any representative to walk out with him to the octagon....ever. Izzy is all about himself, and there is no nation that stands behind him proudly. RP MMA, you hit the nail on the head, calling out the SHILLS. Dricus has a WHOLE NATION(black & white) behind him, and his mature conduct makes his nation very proud. Dricus is a great AMBASSADOR for his gym, family, nation, AFRICA, and by default, the UFC. He sportsmanship after a fight brings people together.. ( In rugby be we have a saying that the opponent that hit/tackled you the hardest during the game is the guy whom you have the most beers with after the game) Izzy reminds me of the spoiled soccer players that fake injuries on the field.....'cry babies' in short. A rugby player's sportsmanship in general is just on a different level, compared to the players in a 'softer sport' called soccer. The Izzy mentality and lack of sportsmanship reeks of soccer baby tears. 🇿🇦🇿🇦 We as a NATION .....the WHOLE NATION organicly and spontaneous stands proudly behind Dricus's achievements, but even more so his conduct in and out of the octagon. You rock RP MMA‼️ PS: All Afrikaner boys grew up with a rugby ball under the arm. Rugby is our first love as small boys
I think the saying is something like... Football , (Soccer) , is a gentlemen's game played by hooligans... Rugby is a hooligans game played by gentlemen...
sent a representative? WHAT THE FVCK ARE YOU TALKING ABOUT? where was DDP representative? did Australia send a "representative" from Australia for Volk's last fight? what a weird thing to say considering, nations dont send representatives for UFC fights. Like what are you talking about? you think the nigerian ambassador has to walk izzy out for a cage fight? He represents his team. Nigerea. Not that hard. You ever see his chest with the giant continent of Africa and other countries he's fought in. Same with topuria, merab, chito etc. you guys are some weird haters looking to nitpick. "representative" !??!? 🤦♂️ 🤦♂️ 🤦♂️ 😂
If you watch ddp sweep at peoples ankles when they try to get away you will realize he has massive grip strength and also when he chocked out Izzy it was more of a face crush.
DDP is just a whole different kind of fighter. His timing and stand up is unorthodox, he is built like a goddamn bear and beast guys down with wrestling, and has underrated chokes. On top of everything he is durable as hell, has killer instinct and his will is unbreakable.
@@The_Reality_Filter that was beautiful! But so was Izzy’s spinning back elbow. People are giving him backhanded props lol, “he still sucks but he is just good at what he does” lol
🔥Major key to DDP success is his footwork. It looks weird but he takes full walking style steps to close the distance, and he also throws power punches as he is fully walking forward. Most fighters take timid half steps and plant thier feet to throw punches. So many fighters have a seriously hard time staying out of range DDP range, including elusive Adesanya and elusive Strickland. 💪
DDP has a melting style of grappling which weirdly complements his messy striking and forward pressure. Naturally falls into something, almost. No matter how he fatigues, the man stays mentally alert.
In part, I think this is a classic example of knowing the rules, and then breaking them in ways to gain advantage. There are things DDP does poorly, but there specific things that he does very right according to what his strengths are.
Chad style fighter. Makes in match adjustments. Relies on his physicality and toughness. Surprising competency especially in scrambles and moments where it's all on the line. His size especially at middleweight is top 1% also.
The photo in the thumbnail is half of why DDP is so difficult to beat. He closes distance, punishes his opponent, and leaves a small area for counter striking. The other half is his grit
I'm not so sure that Izzy can be seen as a fighter who is very aware of a possible submission, like Firas says. Did we see him do that in his previous fights? He is a good defender against takedowns, but against submissions?
At first I thought Adesanya didn't even last 5 seconds before tapping out but with retrospective and this video, surely we can day DDP was already strangling him before securing the body triangle. So it went really more like 8 to 10 seconds into the choke.
DDP only landed 6 less strikes... Rounds 1 and 2 were DDP, and considering round 4 was level on striking and DDP was about to add ground control, it was likely going to be 3-1 going into the 5th.
izzy just cant seal the deal against someone like dricus, thats how i read the fight. He can paint the perfect picture on DDPs face, light him up, but eventually, the physicality and power will just take over and ddp will say “fuck these technicalities, fuck the point game, im running you over because im a more imposing person and you cant stop me.”
well in his first submission attempt he lost the submission because he did not put his hooks in first. Second attempt he put his hooks in and got the submission so pretty much debunks your mouth breaking argument doesn't it? Position before submission.
@@jasonwelsh417 I literally debunked your argument. First submission attempt, went straight for the neck with no hooks and izzy shook him off. Second submission attempt, put hooks in first, got the submission.
DDP is no mystery, he launches HARD, throws punches in bunches and hits hard so you gotta fear that fire fight. His guard is nice and high and His chin was very low in this fight too. The Dudes a gorilla. Hes got huge broad high set shoulders so his punches seem a bit laboursome but thats his body type
Plus he's got kickboxing credentials, so his freaking lead left kick was beautiful to watch. Just something to add for Izzy to look out which he's usually great at not getting hit big anyways with those.
I’m sorry, but you don’t reach the highest levels of MMA with like five title shots, and were never smothered. That is literally impossible. It’s definitely happened before either in training or smaller less than known fights.
@@truthfinder7064 bro you seriously think Israel having damn near 30 fights and training probably a decade has never thought. “Hey I should probably practice how to stop someone from smothering me since I’m a kickboxer and everyone’s going to want to take me down.” You don’t think he’s ever been smothered in the gym? if he has anyone in his gym with half a brain, that’s probably the thing they practiced the most since he’s a kickboxer and everyone’s going to want to take him down. That’s like thinking LeBron James has never practiced shooting with his left hand or something. Of course he has. Just off the top of my head Vittori almost beat him mainly because of the smothering. Jan beat him because of the smothering and I bet you if you look at his fights outside of the UFC, he probably used to get controlled on the ground more. To say he he’s never been smothered is just absurd and is something no one would ever believe. That’s like wondering if Sean O’Malley has ever practiced leg locks or something. Whether we’ve ever seen him use it or not, he undoubtedly has.
@@truthfinder7064 vetorri, jan. probably a crap ton more outside of the ufc. and seeing as how he came into the sport as a kickboxer. If he had anyone with half a brain as training partners. They probably suggested he start from the bottom and work his way up since all of his opponents are going to obviously want to take him to the ground. To think he’s never been smothered is the dumbest thing ever
@@ivanmedina8362 No man!. The vettori fight, seriously??? To smother someone means to cramp his style, make him look uncomfortable, and out of sorts. Izzy had his space with vettori, and dictated. DDP never gave izzy that privilege. I stick to my point, no one has ever smothered dizzy like that before. I'll give it to you maybe somewhere in training, sparring whatever, but we won't know.
DDP wins because you can't hurt him. Same as almost every MMA battle, the man who keeps getting up is the winner. No matter what you say, DDP's striking is poor but his chin is granite and if you can walk through counter punches it doesn't matter how brilliant your striking is, if the man you're fighting is indestructible.
Izzy has had 8 title wins, the second most in the MW division. Second most at MW. Equal 6th in terms of total title wins. In overall standings, that puts him above this list of fighters with 6 title fight wins each: Stipe, Usman, Rousey, Tito, Volkanovski, Cormier Puts him even with this list with 8 title wins: Shevchenko, Aldo Behind these guys with 9 title wins: Randy, Hughes And quite a way behind Nunes & Silva (11), DJ (12) and Jones (15)
wdym? He beat the shit outta him. Same as Strickland. Its embarrassing how far away from wining any of these two fights Dricus was. I cant remember the last time someone won a belt by getting beat this badly (TWICE). Pretty embarrassing champion.
Honestly, I thought Izzy was going to win in the beginning. He looked to be in more control especially in a striking. I feel like he should have gone left hiking a lot more when he was in that South Boston and just circling a lot better
Props to DDP. An awesome first defence. But…. What makes fighters great isnt one fight , ne defense , its the stroy. Look at strickland, one win and then back to the gutter , wont win another title again. DDP is perhaps the toughest fighter in the UFC, but lets pause with all the affirmations. Weve seen how this can go. Just enjoy what he is accomplishing thus far and not push things into the future. He struggled against strickland but weve already forgotten this. Strickland was completely hiumbled by Pereira, lets not forget that and Izzy KOd pereira. My guess is the title will change hands at leat once in the next 6 months. I hope DDPS achievements are not forgotten as people scamper to cloak the next champ is wonder and splendor.
DDP inevitable downfall will be as quick and as sudden as Tony Ferguson. This game is about limiting damage more than winning. I also think he should avoid Sean Strickland because the damage quotient of his last 3 fights will truncate his career. Let someone fight for the interim. DDP needs to fight as infrequent as Khabib.
DDP hve good genetics not tony furguson who hve a weak genetics and weak frame ddp has or ready have a brandy and sport drink out plus he got some brand deals plus he can sing etc not like useless tony
@@Freiheit1232 how is it a dumb take? he has just been around so long and triumphant in this sport because of his succesful kickboxing career + with no great achievements. Oh only anderson silva who was old af at the time. Overrated at best. He has been build up by the ufc to be a face of them Edit: And if you feed a guy more people. That means more money = better facilities and training partners and so on. For beeing someone coming from a wealthy family and only pursuing combat sports. He is MORE than overrated.
I honestly believe Strickland won that fight. But it was by no means a robbery, or undeserving of DDP to win. It was THE EXACT type of title fight that deserved an immediate rematch. The fact that DDP didn’t give it to him tell me he doesn’t want that match again either lol
I only see someone like Bo Nickal being a threat to DDP. But don't see anyone else dominating him. Yes a luck KO can happen but in terms of dominating over 5 rounds? Not any middle weight currently. The dream match for me would be DDP vs Bo Nickal. A prime age elite level wrestler unlike Romero, Brunson and even Weidman who are old and past prime athletic age.Lets make Bo vs Izzy right now.
