To put it in perspective, the NSM is Mach 0.2 faster, has twice the range and is 200kg lighter than the Harpoon AShM it's replacing.
@Hokie2k11
@Hokie2k11 2 месяца назад
And, most of all imo, stealthy. Unlike many ASM, it is actually rather likely to survive to hit its target.

ADF, specifically RAAF has LRASM /JASSM, RAN bought tomahawks for its VLS, as far as I know LRASM has not completed VLS certification yet. They have been succcessfully test fired but no country has yet to purchase any

know one who knows is saying. When we got the perth class (charles F Adams) they skipped D40 there as well. When we got the 3 hobarts they skipped the D40 as well
@carisi2k11
@carisi2k11 2 месяца назад
39 and 41 were hobarts and brisbane's pennant numbers in there previous time as perth class destroyers. As for why Sydney is 42 instead of 40 I have no idea.

@richardthomson4693
@richardthomson4693 2 месяца назад
@@ondoogy we dont use DDG, I did ask a military historian I know, he is EX RAN from that time. He claims that USS Goldsborough which was purchased second hand from the USS and bought to australia. Was not commissioned but was used as a training boat and they painted D40 on it. But that was to fill the existing hole in the sequence. So know one seems to know why the perth had the hole and why they continued it with hobarts

Hmm, is this integrated with Aegis systems or a bolt on? Given the cost to (taxpayers) we are expecting integrated systems.
@rklkify
@rklkify 2 месяца назад
Aegis is just a system of different parts bolted together. Only Hobart destroyers have aegis anyway but yes once nsm is bolted on it will be integrated with aegis

It would be good if we actually had a navy? Seeing albo has decommissioned yet another ship this week, taking the total ships decommissioned under Labor to 14, without any new ships coming on line. Well do albo you fool!

The Navy successfully fired a new missile. One missile. I know these things are expenseive, but, that's a "milestone"? I would have thought they'd been doing this stuff for decades. Did it even hit the target?

HMAS Sydney has more then one missile. It has these NSM's as well as 48 VLS cells which can carry a variety of missiles including the quad packed RIM-162 ESSM and RIM 66 SM2's.

Australia has the capacity to install more cells on the Hobart AWDs as a stopgap until the 6x Hunter-class "frigates" are acquired -- fortunately, Australia is also acquiring 6x 32 cell LOSVs, which would effectively give the Navy 528 cells. + whatever deck-launched weapons. Consider your cynicism unforgiven.
