Ever find yourself interrupting your partner in the middle of an argument, not out of rudeness, but because you’re worried you’ll forget your point? 🧠💬 For many with ADHD, it’s a common struggle. It's important to recognize that it’s not about disrespect; it’s about the fear of losing that fleeting thought.
Interruption during conversations can be frustrating for both parties. It can lead to misunderstandings and escalate conflicts. Understanding the underlying reason, especially in the context of ADHD, can help both partners navigate these situations with more empathy and patience.
📝 Tips
Try jotting down quick notes during heated discussions. This can help you keep track of your thoughts without interrupting your partner. Not only does this show respect for their turn to speak, but it also ensures you don’t lose your important points.
Take Turns: Agree on a signal for when you need a moment to jot down a thought, ensuring the conversation remains respectful.
Use Visual Aids: Keep a small notebook or a note-taking app handy during discussions. Visual aids can be great tools for managing ADHD symptoms.
Practice Active Listening: Focus on truly listening to your partner. Sometimes, writing down your thoughts can free your mind to fully engage with what they’re saying.
Set a Timer: During intense conversations, set a timer for each person to speak without interruption. This structure can help manage the flow of conversation.
Remember, improving communication is a two-way street. Partners can support each other by being patient and understanding. Discuss these strategies together and find what works best for your relationship.

From the standpoint of the other person in the conversation, it is interrupting. The speaker deserves to be heard also.

Yep! the speaker does deserve to be heard, it's understanding the motivation behind they why they are interrupting. It also helps to understand for the interrupter, why they are interrupting.
