The Adidas Takumi Sen 8 was a shoe we were desperate to test from the moment we clapped eyes on it, not least because it’s an absolute looker. The shoe is departure from the classic racing flat design of the Takumi Sen line, increasing the stack height and adding Adidas’s EnergyRods into the midsole.

Billed as a short distance racing shoe to complement the higher, softer Adios Pro 2 in Adidas’s line-up, the Takumi Sen 8 is a shoe many runners will have their eye on, but how does it perform in the real world? Takumi Sen 8 all the way over the NN%2 ....More stable, feel like you're in control of the shoe, not the other way around where the NN%2 almost forces you to run in one specific way....., great toe off, fantastic grip.....more comparable to the Asics Metaspeed sky,I think the TS8 is better on hillier routes and up to 5k. Asics better over 5k but little in it. And my feet usually don't have a love-fest with Adidas!!

Good review, thanks. I love my Takumi Sen 8 and can confirm the „strapped in rocket like feel“, but also the narrow fit. So far the longest run I did in them was a 9k run. It feels great running fast in these. Will take them for a 16k tempo run tomorrow and see how I get on with the narrow platform over a longer distance.

Brilliant review guys, coming from a guy who absolutely loves the primeX The takumi sen 8 is a really underrated lower stack racing shoe and wow didn’t it suprise me, it is slightly firm at first but actually still feels similar to a high stack she like it’s big brother adios adizero 2,and real fun to run in and the pop you get in them , wow , extremely quick 🔥btw that colourway I love, love. Love , matching my prime x😂😂

Thanks! It’s a cracking shoe and the colourway is amazing. I reckon the Takumi is the best version of that colourway in the line-up too haha, but the Adios Pro 2 is tempting in it!

I also found the midfoot too tight but snipped the small threaded bit that holds the lateral side of the tongue (the tongue has a small bit of stitching on both medial and lateral side that attach the tongue to the upper). Made a HUGE difference in relieving the tight feel at midfoot by allowing the upper to open up a little more. But by keeping the medial side stitching intact, the tongue doesn't slide when running.

Just seeing this suggestion now. If I snip the lateral side, will it benefit the lateral side tightness/irritation on the outside midfoot bone that I get ? I broke my 5th Metatarsal in basketball years ago and the narrow fit irritates it for some reason.

@@Chicago_Jayhawk Not sure if it will relieve your specific lateral irritation, but it will make the midfoot/throat of the shoe able to expand more.

Great review as usual guys. Quick question off topic. When you say they are true to size in length, do you typically size up half a size from your normal shoe size?

Thanks yeah we mean true to our running shoe size, which is a bit bigger than normal shoe size. Though in truth I (Nick) haven’t worn anything but running shoes for almost three years now!

I did 5k in the streakfly and sent them back. They were too soft, these though are amazing shoes. Better than the adios for me because of the less aggressive camber of the sole.

I got the takumi sen 8 for $140 USD which is $20 cheaper than the streakfly and the streakfly is sold out everywhere anyways. Pretty confident in my purchase. I'm at the age right not where I have a job but don't have any major expensives so I'm using all my money for running shoes🤣

Great review thank you! If I’m looking to run a 1:23 ish half marathon would you recommend this shoe? I loved it for a 5k but wasn’t sure if I’m a strong enough runner for this shoe. I was going to use Vaporflys… hope to hear from you

Heyo, I think I’d go for the Vaporfly myself (Nick). Takumi is great, Vaporfly is tried and tested though!

I wanted to get this shoe in my country but for some reason it came near 40% more expensive then the Ultraboost 22 and it is like the same price of the Adidas Adios Pro 2. So I will pass on the Takumi Sen 8, unfortunately. It is not the same but for lower then half the price I could get the Puma Deviate Nitro or a Mizuno Wave Rebellion.

Looking for a replacement for my endorphin speed twos threes didn’t work for me um, how are these and like this is the speed twos were great for me. They did everything I could take them in easy run I could take them you know moderate to steady and I could take them on my speed workouts and how are these in, easier to moderate pay pace is it like you’re gonna be holding the shoe back or could they work? It’s not at the Niners are on these I’m seeing some fabulous deals on the eighth so I was just curious cause I might be dues are definitely don’t.

Thanks for your excellent review. The turnover from the Sen 8 makes it less difficult to pick up the pace (for me) than the VaporFly. I’m averaging about a 1.5 percent average increase in cadence versus the Nike. Now I’m working on increasing my foot strength so I can race the Sen 8 for the half marathon distance. Curious if I can keep up that cadence and shave off some seconds beyond 10 K! Hey, us Grand Master runners can dream ;-)

Thanks! That’s interesting on turnover, I (Nick) think there is a good half marathon shoe here for sure, though I’d go for the extra cush myself probably. Curious to try it tho so will try and line up a longer race in the Takumi at some point

Yeah they’d be great for it, if you can nab a deal on the Takumi’s even better. At full RRP you can probably find reduced Vaporflys for less to use as trainer!

No, I disagree. If you are looking for a Boston 10 like shoe and what it should have been, then I recommend the Adidas Adios 6. Great shoe, I love it. Perfect Boston 9 successor.
