My name is Brian. I live on the road full time in my self built camper van. Join me on my adventures.
In this video I leave my camp at Shelving Rock Road near Lake George, New York. I head towards Moose River Plains area in the Adirondack Park area. This was a great area along Cedar River Road. I moved on from there to a camp right on Raquette Lake.
Thanks for watching!

Oh boy! I had mice in my van as well! I have a cat too! She is awesome at catching mice but the buggers just had too many nooks and crannies to hide in to keen from getting caught. I finally got some traps, I hate killing anything but I just couldn’t have the mice in my van. I eventually got rid of them too.

Good to see someone enjoying all that New York upstate has to offer. I grew up camping all around the Adirondacks and there really are a great many beautiful areas. Many RVers don't think of New York as a place you can boondock.

Working with wood is gratifying. In old England there were traveling wood working people called Bodgers. They made and used all kinds of light weight easy to pack people powered wood working equipment. Great videos on youtube.about modern Bodgers in England Bill

I got one myself yesterday. I use the all metal Victor mouse trap brand. I super glued a shelled peanut to the trap, rubbed peanut butter on the trap and the peanut to cover my scent. A tip. Put something on either side of the trap, so the mouse can come in only one way for best results. It's that time of the year.

Hey Brian, I love that scooter! I think Im gonna try and find one on Craigslist here in Baltimore before I start driving West. I'm starting to think I should sell my 26' class C and get a campervan, lol... I'm getting tired of driving this thing around. Too big! Anyone wanna trade a campervan for a class c rv? lol... Well anyways, keep up the good job on these vids Brian. Hope to meet up with you one of these days. I suffer from Solo Boondocking syndrome! lol Sucks sometimes. Loneliness... I'm full timing it too. Drove out to New England from San Diego last June to see my daughter graduate from High School and see her off to college! West coast or BUST!!!

This is the area that we live in and were raised in! I'm so glad that you got to experience our section of this beautiful country! If you are ever back in the area again, please let us know. The Adirondack Mountains (the ADK) have so many trials to hike, ongoing bodies of water to swim in, fish, or go boating in. This is one area that is often missed. You will not be disappointed to take the additional time to get here and enjoy the surroundings. There is so much more to NY than NYC

A always melt some cheese down and mold it to the lever. They really have to work at that. Allot of the time you can just reset it without baiting it again cause they don't get it off. I've never had it cleaned off and sprung.

If you want an adventure you haven't done yet, try going to a resort on a larger lake and renting a motorboat for the day. Then get a one day license and see you you can catch anything trolling slowest speed possible with a spinnerbait. catch and release. It is a different world being on the water from 1 hour before sunrise a lunch and nap and then back on til late as possible. You see bald eagles, loons, beavers, deer, turtles, musk rats. With the excitement of a big fish.

Hey, VanMan, Love the spoons, great job. Hoe do they hold up in water. Can they be bought? So your back east. I live in CT. MICE are very common, I had an infestation and thought I had the problem licked until I went to the basement to get my winter coats and discovered my winter down jacket that was hanging on a clothes rack covered over with a sheet, was being used a home by a colony of mice. The coat was devoid of down and the mice were living in the POCKETS that were stuffed with down extracted from the jacket itself. They seem to be able to bite through just about anything and climb up and over any obstacles because I then found them in my kitchen cabinets, not funny! It was the that I wished I had a couple of cats instead of five dogs. Well anyway............. Happy trails and safe travels! Jane and her wacky sidekick Lola, the Boston Terrier

Hey Brian - Love the videos. Regarding mice: Had a problem a couple years ago similar to yours. Traps tripped, bait gone, no mice. Tried a number of things to no avail. Neighbor said I had a pack-rat. Set a live trap and sure enough, caught a pretty big pack rat. Big enough to laugh at my typical mouse traps. Looked just like this: www.sciencephoto.com/image/385655/530wm Thought it was a chinchilla at first glimpse. Anyway, this may give some insight to what you are experiencing. If the turds look big, it may be a packrat!
@raysills
@raysills 6 лет назад
Best bait for a standard spring type mouse trap is peanut butter. Once you put a small bit on the trigger, it can't be carried away. The mouse can only try to gnaw at it, and BANG... it's done it's job. The dryer sheets idea is pretty good for keeping mice away. Keep all your food in "chew-proof" containers. :)

Brian, if you cut into halves, Irish Spring soap and put the unwrapped soap in the corners of your van, mice won't come in. They don't like the scent of mint at all. Better to have them pass you by than to deal with them. Safe travels. I love up state NY. We camp there every summer.

Hey Brian, look on your firewall under your dash where the linkages and cables go thru. Make sure all the rubber boots are intact and none are dry rotted and split. Common area for mice to enter. Also if anyone has drilled new holes anywhere on your van. Mice can flatten there bodies to less than a 1/4” to enter tight spaces. Good luck and hope you don’t have any more trouble!
