Who would’ve thought that a 3 minute video would save me $3000? My Nissan Xterra was side-swiped by a small Toyota about a month ago and the door was loose. We took it to a shop who tried to charge $3000 to fix the door or give us $3500 to declare it a total loss and leave them the car. We kept the car and figured we would take it somewhere else later when we’d have the money. This video literally just solved the problem and it wasn’t even difficult to do 😭 Thank you so much!!
you just saved me a few hundred dollars most likely by not having to bring my car in to a shop. Tyvm! This was a nice and easily explained tutorial and it worked for me
I never comment on youtube but had to say thank you! Door dropped a few days ago, conveniently after i had car washed so thought it had been damaged and id have to pay for repair. Today i was struggling to close it at all. I got my jack out (first time ever!) and followed your guidance and its sorted. Thank you! :)
Detailed and straight to the point without begging or repeating to like and subscribe. Hell of a job/ video and you got me to like and subscribe!! Thanks man all the way from the very most Southern tip of Texas!!!
Good tutorial! I have my new Toyota Tacoma 2023 at the dealer fix this exact issue. I bought it like that in December and it was getting annoying so I am having them adjust it. Should be an easy fix after watching your vid.
@@ClintHolland Yes, they will be under warranty. The dealer said they don’t have anybody skilled enough to fix it so I have to take it a body specialist.
Thank you so much for the awesome content!! I would buy you a beer if I could. I watched your video, went out and fixed it. Very helpful without a bunch of big "five dollar words" that are so prevalent in many videos these days. Salute.👍
My problem seems to be with the bolts that attach the hinges to the frame, which are impossible to access without removing the door. I will try this, though. The bolts you're showing were loose on my door too. I tightened them up, but without raising the door any. We shall see :-)
Thank you! I have had a slight sag in my honda accord door since a big wind gust caught it and blew it backwards a couple years ago. I used your trick, and its shutting like new! I thought i would have to replace the hinges or something, so I was just putting up with it.
@@ClintHolland I have same issue 😑 but driver side can't open to get inside car , cause windy blow hard my door when come to close he dt close plus dt open any more if u try to open I will damage fender 😀 any help guys I have Toyota Corolla 2009 👍

@@jengoroot7099 have the same problem on my Ford ranger. I had to remove the front fender to fix the hinges, you will scratch up your door and fender maybe even bend it but your best bet is to try to reach the bolts holding the car door to the hinges and unscrew them with a wrench
@@olegpal5926 I did open hard door but I bent already fender even if I can't open door to reach hangers , I will try to remove fender now 😀 thanks bro 👍
Great Video!! I Need To Do This ASAP!! My Damn Door Actually Flew Open Today While I Was Driving... Not Good!! Plus It Damn Near Gave My Passenger A Heart Attack!! 🤣😂🤣 Thanks For Sharing!! 🙂🙂🙂
I'm embarrassed to say this but I broke the 1 of the 4 bolts so the door is just leaning way off. I don't know how I'm going to fix the car but I'm just driving my other one right now. I was just tightening it and it snapped off with half of the screw still inside the car. It was passenger door. I don't know why it happened but I feel awful
@@alejandrob-c2277 They make bolt extractors but that is almost certainly a pretty big bolt. Try picking up an extractor and using some PB Penetrant to get it out.
You don't really. You are just trying to get the door back to the original height. If you then find it is too high, which doesn't generally happen, you would need to repeat the process until it is right. The issue is that when you release the jack, the door is going to sag every so slightly so it can be hard to judge.
I just replaced an entire door and it does this. I did something similar but without the jack. I'm going to try this in an attempt to realign it. I'm assuming I should use the bolts on the door side and not the frame side?
Hey Clint I watched your video on tagging truck door after I did what the video said yeah my door is in a bind it don't want to shut it's pinching how do I fix that now
I need to give this a shot. I have a 2015 Malibu and the passenger door catches on my back door chrome accent and pops it off, now its actually catching on the metal part under that accent and bent it. hoping this works
This could possibly be the issue in my mustang but I’m not sure. Basically when I shut the driver side of the door, it will shut it closes and locks however the window doesn’t lock itself all the way up? Like it leaves about half an inch open which leaves the car thinking it’s still open. And before this, when I would close it normally and such the window would push itself up securing the window on its own. Not sure if it’s this or something else. Any ideas?
It very well could be. You said the car still thinks the door is open? Usually that sensor is on the door jamb frequently near the latch. Does the door seem to close smoothly or is it kind of jerky when you close it?
Maybe. The door closes and latches ok? If so, you can use the jack to support the door but after you loosen the bolts you can then use the jack to lower it just a little.
Hey, thanks for the video! Unfortunately the problem seems like the bar that's in the middle of what holds the hinges and door together. Any recommendations on how to fix that?
@@ClintHolland Hi Clint. I have the same problem as Alexander Mantilla. My front driver side door has an upper and a lower hinge. Each hinge consists of: - a bracket that is bolted to the door, - a bracket that is bolted to the car - a hinge pin that holds the above two brackets together The hinge pin has worn the holes in the door bracket so the door sags. It's not clear that the solution you proposed would work properly in this case. Could you please check to see if the car door you repaired in the video was sagging due to worn hinge pin holes rather than loose bracket bolts?
@@etherx8604 If your hinge pin is worn out this video still might help by mitigating the worn pin with a hinge adjustment. However, if the hinges don't have enough play in them to offset the hinge pin wear, this isn't going to work and you are going to have to replace the hinge.
I have a different issue was in accident and got minor damage on my passenger fender and my door is just a tad bit forward cuz there is no clearance between the door and the mirror there touching so idk if that’s because it is saggging
i dont get how this physically works though..., wont you be screwing in the exact same position? or does the bracket have a large hole that is adjustable
You got it Alex. I won't say it has a large hole but the holes in the hinges are larger than the hinge bolts which gives you just enough movement to make this work.
@@ClintHolland i have installed a bodykit and sideskirts on my car, and the doors are only clearing by 1 mm. i tried to raise it but found the holes were the same size as the bolt, and there isnt enough of an angle to fit my drill to make the hole bigger. i guess im just going to sand the bottom of the door and top of the sideskirts as much as i can because im going to respray anyway. But i appreciate you help
Just got my car back from the shop and it had this exact problem. Dad had an old rachet set but it seems too big to fit into the area. What type of rachet did you use? Also I have an old rusted car, will the bolts be difficult to loosen? We are hoping to fix this ourselves. Thank you for the great video!
I used a 3/8" ratchet which fit fine. Any idea what size the ratchet is your are using? I would recommend spraying it with some PB Penetrant or other penetrant before trying to loosen them if it is rusted.
Thank you for the reply! I'm not really sure. It doesn't really fit in the area. I had to take it back to the mechanics. It flew open when I was driving! Do you know the cause of that happening? I'm so disappointed.
@@Yaddada408 If you compare the latch on the door to the catch on the frame from the passenger side to the driver side does it seem to be off a little?
