dale Mcclennon, Yes I noticed that and I am pretty far down on the comment section. My pretty and 2 yr 3 month old $1,100 GE side by side took a crap. I had to fire up the 30 year old fridge that I replaced it with to save some of the food. Over 30 yrs of use, I replaced 2 fan motors and a couple of plastic rack holders. No help at this site. They don't make them like they used to.

When you try to set the actual temperature, does your control show your new setting for a short period of time before it goes back to 13 and 45? If so, it can take a little while for the refrigerator temperature to stabilize to your new setting. If your control will not allow you to select a new setting, try resetting your circuit breaker. The actual temperature of the refrigerator and freezer may vary a bit from the set temperature/the temperature you adjust - this is normal. We hope this helps. The 5 is going to be the coldest setting on your temperature dial. We are sorry to hear this happened. If there was a short power outage, the compressor overload will cycle on & off (not the compressor) until the refrigerant system equalizes at which point the compressor will start & refrigeration will resume. If this did not occur, try unplugging it for about five minutes & plugging it back in. +j kelam Gotcha...I know you were hoping for another outcome but at this point we would recommend calling service. If they've already told you that you'll need to replace your control panel then that's probably what you'll need to do but I'd work with the team to be sure.

To be honest, I called GE Consumer Service. They couldn't get a service tech out to see me for five days. I had already lost 150$ worth of groceries and frankly, the customer service rep was very rude. I was then informed that I couldn't return the item because 48 hours had lapsed since purchase (which wasn't true). It took a week for it to be delivered. Home Depot thankfully took care of it and we went with another brand. Its a shame because we loved the actual product, but while I understand a product not working right away I was worried about what would happen in the future because of my terrible first experience with the customer service.

Hello Scotters201, Thanks so much for your question. I will be happy to help. There isn't a way to keep the temperature displayed on the control. It will fade away after a few seconds.

GE Appliances I had the same question. I would have liked an option to see the current temperature always displayed. I was disappointed to see it go off.

I too just sold my Frigidaire Gallery Refrigerator that always displayed the temps and was disappointed to learn mt new GE fridge does not display temps all the time. Is there a fix for this??

Hi, William. Thanks for reaching out to us. While you can adjust the settings to funnel more cold air into the fresh food compartment, you cannot turn off the freezer department, alone. To review additional details on the operation of the controls for most GE models manufactured after 1995, please take a look at our below information: Fresh-Food Controls: The freezer supplies cold air to both compartments. Cold air is circulated from the freezer to the fresh food compartment via a damper. The fresh food control regulates the damper between the two compartments by controlling the amount of cold air that flows into the fresh food compartment. Freezer Controls: The higher the setting, the longer the compressor runs and as a result the colder both sections become. The freezer setting determines the compressor and freezer fan running times. Turning the freezer control to OFF shuts off the compressor and consequently, shuts off cooling in both the fresh-food and freezer compartments. Note: These are the models with numbered controls. On single control models, insert a coin into the slot in the middle of the dial and adjust the control. The simplest way to determine which control determines how long the compressor will run and in effect, how cold the entire refrigerator can become, is to look for the control with the OFF indicator on the control. Be sure and let us know if any other questions come up!

Hi Claudia. We are glad to help. Make sure that both the refrigerator and freezer contain a reasonable food load. Closed containers of water, food or non-perishables will help to stabilize the temperature. This is because the items in the refrigerator absorb the cold, and actually work to help the refrigerator maintain a steady temperature. The more items in the refrigerator, the less cool air is needed to keep the refrigerator cold. Make sure the doors are closing properly. Thanks - RF
