0wen, thanks for the videos, I have learned a lot from your experiences. I have also subscribed and hope to learn more. My wife and I are working towards getting into sailing. My first step was to start watching the many RU-vid sailing videos to see what I could find out. I have enjoyed your videos because you have documented your journey right from the beginning. I have also been looking at lots of boats and a Cape Dory 25D is one that we are considering. We are also looking at the Contessa 26, a Dana 24, Flicka 20 and other older sea worthy boats. We came close to buying a 2004 Com-Pac 27/3 until I realized the low comfort rating and the higher capsize rating. We want a boat we can safely take off shore and maybe circumnavigate Vancouver island as well as do the inside passage to Alaska. We also want a boat that we can trailer for two reasons; 1) I don’t want to leave a boat in a slip over the winter when we won’t use it and 2) We want to be able to take our boat to some major lakes like lake Chelan, Lake Pend Orielle, and maybe Lake Tahoe. We would probably moor half of the year somewhere in Puget Sound. I have to say that one of the things that dismays me is the amount of motoring time versus sailing time. I am seeing that in many videos especially in the Inside passage videos. I never expected that to be the case going from Anacortes to Astoria. I also was amazed at the relatively calmness in the Straight of Juan De Fuca and the Columbia bar. My wife and I have a lot to learn. Thanks for your very practical videos.
Thank you for your comment. The capsize and comfort ratings are important to me too. The CD25D isn't one of the best in terms of those ratings, but for such a small boat it's been very good to me. The motoring time is less than ideal, but with all of the high land areas around you you'll often be in too much wind funneling between islands or in a wind shadow. It just makes those times with perfect wind conditions all the sweeter. Enjoy the ride!
@@VoyageDreams Well now that it is a couple of months later my wife and I just purchased a Catalina 27. We decided on a C27 because it is the largest boat I want to trailer and it is highly rated by John Vigor (20 small boats to take you anywhere) We wanted an outboard as he suggested. We sailed her down from Gig Harbor to Olympia two days ago. Or should I say we motored her down. The winds were very inconsistent and we sailed at times but motored most of the time. It was a beautiful sunny day though so it was an enjoyable ride anyway. We are looking forward to learning the ropes around here.
